ABF | "Muler" Has Had Enough!

At our barn its really just a few guys who do it but they CANNOT force a senior guy on it if there is a junior man available to bump it to. Being qualified or not is no excuse. They can be trained.
Thanks, boiler. That’s good information. Our TM is in a tizzy because not everyone in our barn does that work. Are you saying that a senior guy, whether he’s trained or not, can bump that work to a junior guy who IS qualified? That has happened at our terminal on occasion and now the TM wants to have EVERYBODY trained on that work. I think it’s garbage. Does the rule of seniority come into play here?

I’ve looked threw my book about 15 times now. Where do you find the percentage of bids at? I’m sure I’m skipping over it. Our barn has 4 people and three bids but it’s been that way for a long time.

In the NMFA, Southern Road Supplement, your bids are based on 75% of the run count. Go to Article 42, Section 4. The bid Formula is the Total number of runs X .75 = and divide that number by 26 (weeks) and divide that number by 3 for Lay downs or divide by 6 for turns.
ABF Drivers voted to change the formula by using .60 (?) instead of .75.............KK

Yes total seniority. The senior guy can bump it to a junior man no matter if the junior man is trained or not..... Well you know hours available and so forth... In my opinion that's the way it should be. They have had ample opportunity to train everyone. A senior man shouldn't have to be forced to do a job just because management couldn't be bothered to make sure people are trained. Now we have seen where the senior man had to train the junior man before he left on the run.
In reality management knows who likes to run the princeton and will put it out when they have a guy starting who will take it or is qualified and will be on the bottom to get forced on it. It just takes a little thought and planning. Wait .......did I really say that? lol

That explains why I can’t find it. Thanks.

Actually,......the work is not “segregated” anywhere in the contract. So........technically, everyone should be able to do it.

But,.......in reality,......we all know there are some guys who do it well,.........and some guys who regard doing Relo-Cubes as the same as having their liver wrenched out,......without anesthesia.....

And,........they treat a Relo-Cube assignment as a personal affront. If they have seniority to swing,.......then they try to make it a “ harassment “ problem,......and thereby a Union problem.

Our terminal is pretty steady on cubes. April-October is the busiest time. $2/hour premium for cubing??? Hmmmm...hadn’t heard that.
Union is asking for it. Up UE from $1 to $2 premium and Relocube work, but hopefully at least they will get a $1 premium for cubes. Exercise equipment deliveries should have a $50 bonus and 3 free chiropractor visits!

http://www.abfteamstersunited.org/ Look around this informative website and find the link for Union proposals to ABF and download the PDF. The proposed change is on page 3 of 49 at the bottom of the page included in with the UE premium language.

Y'all need to stay on topic! This post has very great points on what you are about to face in this new contract for ABF and all some of you want to do is talk about cubing? "Some" of you voted for and supported the concessions at YRCW, and then left to come to ABF, and now you have become cheerleaders for Judy?....WTH?.....I guess the screen name fits, so wear it!

Rant, rant rant:9529:

Come on, we all know it's the same old animals being used at the circus, nothing new here....if you want to serve on TNFINC you have to be selected from the elected officials. Most Locals are going to have more UPS and YRC officials, it's just the way it is. But, in Muler's world, it's like if they're not an ABF Teamster, they're not a Teamster? BS post...leave this crap at Old School Teamsters forum. Divisive, negative post, without listing ALL the NEGATIVE conditions of YRC and UPS contracts. ABF still has the best contract, and hopefully we can get another one that's better and bring the standards up at YRC and UPS. I think that is what they will be NEGOTIATING for....

So....you came from YRC AFTER you supported the yes vote, and then dumped on your co-workers and came to ABF, and now you are going to be a cheerleader for Judy and dump on them too?

That's because they voted NO and stood by it and got a better contract....that was hard to do at YRCW with all those yes voters who pushed it and then left to go elsewhere....like ABF

Time is so short, I think there will not be an agreement in time, and contract will be extended, with ongoing negotiations. I got a feeling that ABF will want to extend 1 year, and come to the table with YRC at the same time. Just my 2 cents on it..
you are probably right...not our "first rodeo",,,,35 days and counting...

Sure that’s a thought in their head.
Think ABF drivers would throw a fit. YRC out numbers us 3 to one. We would lose big. I’d quit before we did that.

I'm heartbroken that I am hated. I wish our Union was in a better position to negotiate a good contract, and the company was willing to buy it, however, neither is the case no matter how mad anyone gets at me. I'm not so sure we'll even get another contract, and if we do it's not going to be a "winner takes all" panacea. ArcBest will lock the gates if the Union even suggests a strike vote. We'll vote till we get it right....that is the "new union" since 1994.

Boy.

You should've stayed at YRC.

You're downright poisonous, and a Teamster in name only.

Sorry I got sidetracked there KK. I actually read the boards because often there is news that gets posted here before it is elsewhere. When things get boring I post something to stir the pot sometimes. Everyone has to live there own convictions and travel their own journey. Perhaps I'm too transparent for others comfort sometimes, but I'm comfortable in my own skin.....what I have left anyway.

Hiss....hisss......rattle.....rattle Whatever? Way it's looking, I may get a chance to go back to YRC....God, I hope not!
