Not saying that at all.We have lots of good workers. It's just that ours can and do get away with it and theirs can't.
I'm not disagreeing with you ,I'm just stating my perspective.
The nons do not have a contract. If you show up to work, as an at-will employee, you are expected to work. They can, and do, track your movements. If you are stopped in one place for too long, expect to hear about it. You are expected to punch the clock when you are told to, and must explain yourself if you are late. The clock is king at a nonunion company.

The question a lot of you should be asking yourselves is how many people at YRC could live without the work rules your contract provides for you. The nons don't have them, and you may just have to negotiate them away to get your rate. Assuming they don't declare bankruptcy and lock the gates when you decide to go on strike, leaving you with little choice.

I won't deny you guys deserve your full rate again. But if you think the bank wouldn't foreclose on YRC in the event of a labor strike, you're fooling yourselves. YRC would be lucky to live for a week after a strike action before the lack of profit does them in. Customers would flee in droves the minute you announced the strike and it would be virtually unrecoverable within 24 hours. No customers, no profits, no more YRC.

Pound your chest all you want. If ABF and UPS refuse struck freight, there's plenty of other carriers who will haul your freight while you stand around the fire barrel with your picket signs. The management will deploy their golden parachutes, the bank will take everything and you'll all be unemployed. If you believe they won't, you're ignoring your own evidence to the contrary. YRC is only useful as a money tool as long as the employees work.

Just an observation,CF. But speaking of punching in and out,it always amazed me how many stand at the scanner,or clock,waiting for the top,or bottom of the hour to punch out. And right in front of the window,with management in full view. And some stand there for 20-25 minutes. Like they are owed that time. Do that at a non union place,and I am sure you will be told about it.point is,multiply the time by X amount of people doing it system wide,and see how much money a day that is...
 
Oh what a viscous circle. No help because of no money. Demand more money the company (I.E. those bastard banks!) close the door.
 
I am kind of curious as to what work rules you think are making the union company's unprofitable ?
I do know the NMFA has given the company's plenty of leeway in the past. Is it the Teamsters fault the company management is to stupid to use what has been given ?

Sets per hour hooked, what maybe 1. Bills per hour on dock ..any guesse?
No one would pull that ::shit:: at a non union line.
And God forbid someone gets their feelings hurt or gets angry at management.
They will show them what a true sorry ass is.
I love having a contract and it has got me paid lots of times, but we all need to work
and earn our paycheck.From what I see some of the-worst sorriest asses are the ones demanding the most from the upcoming contract..sad and ignorant.

We worked 400 (EOL) and change bills last night. 12 guys. No one is busting their ass.
Just moving. That's done in less than 7 hours including breaks and wait for bills time.
Go figure.

If it were like that everywhere we would probably drop our operating ratio down 3 or 4 cents per quarter.

But some get to sensitive about warning letters latex or absence and act ass for a month.Some need their estrogen checked.

We had 3_4 guys on the outbound shift taking between 2 and 2 1/2 of breaks / lunches. The supervisor told them to tighten up the breaks , lunchs, several times, they didn't. The sup wrote them letters and then they shut down like a fat dog on a hot day. They would show him, they stopped loading and started docking everything. The one guy said " our shift deserves the extra breaks because we load all the freight". Totally child like behavior if ya ask me.
 
When a company reduces your hourly rate, eliminates future pay raises cuts your pension and takes away vacation time, it makes perfect sense to me to put less effort into the job one does.

Just an observation from someone who got fed up and left.

Perhaps the workers would give more effort if they put a halt to the massive bonuses the higher ups get and use that money to help pay off the debt.

I understand where you are coming from but this has been going on for the 20 years I've been a teamster.
