I had a delivery yesterday to an account that was also using us for some o/b., I was told that since our contract expires soon, they wouldn't use us for a while because they didn't want their products tied up..and until the contract was "settled" and not "extended", the wouldn't use us..they also contacted all of their accounts that even ship prepaid to them...It seems like our competitors are driving this home...anyone else run into this...it is only going to pickup soon....competitors using this to their advantage

From a competitors stand point, can you blame them? So much non union competition out there , our freight would be dissolved in a second. No customer wants to deal with issues of this sort with there goods. Loyalty doesn't matter with most customers anymore anyway

Happens every contract. Just the way it goes. I worked for Watkins at one time. It always got the sales guys crazy when the freight eventually went back to normal.

Man...tell em' not to worry, if we was to strike....them ArcBest and Panther trucks would clean up our docks in 2 days..It will be the best service they will have had from ABF in the last 5 years!

Simple , Pay the Full Rate & give back weeks vacation time & put a limit on forced overtime and it will be settled !
It's already settled, just may take us 2 or 3 votes and about half the board furloughed to figure it out, and they only want the most profitable business to come back anyways

I don't know if you're a troll, a company plant, or an absolute ****ing idiot. But either way, I don't like you.

Have a great day. I don't mean that at all, by the way.

Not a troll, nor a plant...idiot part pretty spot on...but...could you tell us again how you really feel? Now that's priceless! When that shiny brand new ArcBest rig set at about 68 blew my doors about 4:30 this morning....I was positive....it wasn't a Teamster driving it....and my pay cut and vacation were flashing in my eyes when he put on the turn signal and blinked his marker lights....that's our new reality. I hope I'm still sucking wind in 2022 and we get to discuss it some more. You have a great day.....and I mean that....in a depressing sort a way....and LTLANONYMOUS there is a thing called "sarcasm" seriously....it is a real thing

I mean seriously. After this contract is ratified, it will be great to not hear from you again until 2022.
Seriously....after the contract is ratified or "the gate gets locked" there really ain't much interesting on here....unless you like the sound of whining....but....I'm glad you think I will make it back in 2022

People like you are how these boards lose members. Pound sand!
I thought these boards were for spirited discussion with different points of view...maybe a little friendly name calling, a few jabs to "enlighten" the ignorant....hell....my bad....wasn't trying to give anyone an ulcer

They're getting it figured out over there on the "Old School Teamsters" forum I think from what I read over there.....and they post my stuff over there....they're convinced I have ruined our Union and ABF....I practically and personally envisioned and bankrolled the new ArcBest Corporation, never mind that the Union can't afford to strike their cash cow. But anyway, no new news yet on the latest round, so I better finish my nap. Good day!

Don't flatter yourself. You're but a weak tooth on the cog. Surely nobody considers you a mastermind.

No "leaks" from the IBT/ABF negotiating sessions? No tantalizing glimpses of $10,000 signing bonuses,...........extra three weeks vacation for all bearded employees?,.........paid maternity leave for all City Peddle drivers?.............

Or,..........like many teacher/school board impasses,.............will ABF continue to operate on extensions of the old contract,......for years?

The fact of the matter is that ABF is sitting on piles of money,...........saved in their "war chest", ....in case contract talks don't go their way.

When contract talks "went their way".....last time,.......they went on a spending spree,......New corporate headquarters for ABF and Panther........other company acquisitions,...........bonuses for all who sit behind a desk,....flouting contract language to the contrary.........

Time will always bring the Truth out in a rotten deal,............as it certainly has about our last contract. Fric (Johnson) and Frac (Sweeton), who .....umm...."negotiated".....our last contract,...completely fell down on the job. They were NOT advocates for us........They went for the company schmoozing, that us Hoi Polloi on the bottom of the economic pile,......were "overpaid",.......and that the company, in it's munificent benifiscence,....would "take care" of us....

Just sign here........

I sincerely hope Ernie & Co. know better, and won't fall for the corporate Sackcloth'n'Ashes routine,......like Fric and Frac did...........

Customers leaving? Put yourself in the customer's shoes.............A good tactic to lower your freight rate is to threaten to leave,....and contract talks have ALWAYS provided a good reason to use that tactic.........If I was a customer,....the first salesman that mentioned their competitor was "going on strike",...in the attempt to hustle them into changing their carrier,.......I would smile, and say: "Yeah, I better ship with you, ONLY IF YOU WILL LOWER MY FREIGHT RATES!"

FedEx, OD, Estes, can pick up that freight.......at LOWER RATES.......

Don't think the customers are so stupid as to not take advantage of any situation.

Non-Unions want to scab out that freight.....at LOWER RATES? They will do it at the expense of their employees. They can fluctuate their Labor costs to reflect cut-rate freight......

Not very smart, if they want to hire/keep their non-Union employees..........

Canary, I have to laugh about how you stick to your line of thinking that FedEx ships cheaper than ABF. One of our drivers drove over to your Phoenix yard just the other day to pick up a large item he paid to ship via you guys. Cost half what it would to ship it FedEx Freight. He picked it up on the way home from work, in uniform. Your crew laughed pretty heartily over that.
