Estes | Sure Move Security

A friend of mine is moving across the country and has had problems twice before with regular long-distance movers with having stuff stolen somewhere along the way. I told him about what Estes and ABF does with dropping a pup at your house and how you load it yourself, etc.

His concern is about security along the way. They explained to him that there would be a partition behind his stuff and that the remaining space would be used for freight as it makes its way to the destination. He is worried about people getting into the partition and seeing what he has in there when it is at other terminals.

I explained that the LTL business is fast paced and that there would be no time really to snoop in his stuff and that they would rather leave it alone, like when we build a head load in a trailer at Dayton Freight. Do you guys know of any issues with Sure Move with dock workers poking around and stuff coming up missing? Are there any tips I should give him to help with security?

Sure move or ABF moving services is the best way to go. I talked to people that used it and they loved it. They get to seal up their belongings not the driver so it’s a good situation. I’m going to use it when I move back to Florida.

If he uses Abf they have containers that he can put his own lock on, and no one can see what he is shipping.
Yeah, my mother-in-law used their U-pack deal and it worked out really well, but she didn't have a lot of stuff. I was there to receive it so the ABF city guy and I told war stories for a bit. My buddy can't use those though because he would need too many of them.

I personally ask for a bolt seal when I notice I have suremove on one of my Linehaul trailers. I haven't heard of any issues here with stolen stuff though.

At Estes, once he loads his own freight and puts the partition in place, his trailer is picked up on the scheduled pick up day. It is returned to the terminal and dropped in the yard until the terminal loads more freight inside if there is room. Legally, no one can removed the partition and snoop through the customers belongings. There is not enough time or a secluded place for that to happen. The customer can only put a padlock on his trailer when he is in the process of loading it. We can not have his padlock on it when it gets back to the terminal because the ramp does not travel across the country with his belongings. He may be able to talk to the shipping terminal to see if they would put his padlock on the trailer when it is enroute, though it probably will not happen. At the destination terminal, they will put a ramp in the trailer and schedule a day to drop it at his new home. Estes is installing more camera's in terminals that record 24/7.
