First offense for rolling stops, red lights, and following distance is a suspension and 3 years of probation. Second offense is termination for the same offense such as another rolling stop. Total stupidity. Period .... and end of discussion. It should be a written warning for the first offense. Second offense should be a 5 day suspension and the third offense should be termination IMO. As long as they continue to belittle and bully drivers with this excessive policy they will continue to have massive turnover. No driver will work under the pressure of knowing his job could be lost with his next mistake. The 3 years of probation is the main issue. We had a big meeting in Garland today about this. You can’t sugar coat this. It’s totally wrong. I will be back later with specifics and what actually prompted this meeting.

Forgot to add the probation time period. One year. I will say a drivers inability to learn from his mistakes and his driving record should come into play. Looking at things in black and white isn’t always the best option. Things should always be on a case by case basis but as we know most the time that just doesn’t happen. Remember guys you can’t put this on DriveCam. SAIA is the one that sets disciplinary policies. DriveCam is a great learning tool when used properly.

I don't know if this is the right forum but, it has been reported that in the new trucks, the cameras don't have a light. So, when it is recording, the driver can't tell when he is being recorded. Great huh? Won't know you have a video until called in to show you.

Not true.

I have pictures of the new trucks and the new DriveCam unit and it still has the light. It looks different but I don’t think anything has changed. This site won’t let me upload the pictures from my photo library in my iPhone. Not sure why but I did try. I will verify the report you heard from the guys when they start driving the units. They were just placed into service here in the Texas region.

They rushed to put these trucks in service. I’ll bet the drive cams are not on line yet. We’ve been driving them for two weeks and haven’t heard of anyone getting a video yet.

Thanks for the info. I don't know how the story started but, I will let everyone know there are lights on the cameras.. The other story is that there is a camera above the driver so they can see what they can't with the camera on the windshield. How do these stories get started?

Only camera is in the middle of the windshield. They lowered them a bit so they cant be blocked by visor.

No cameras above the driver. Just more BS!!

It’s a little frustrating because I can’t upload the pictures I had taken of the new trucks. The administration seems to be making adjustments to the site. Perhaps all these uploads cost the owner more money to maintain this site. Not sure what’s happening. Most the uploads don’t come from the LTL side. Any changes should be made in the other forums IMO. This is just speculation on my part.

What’s being reported on why we had this safety meeting is that Whitwell (Regional operations manager) got wind of another senior city driver at the top of the board quitting and going straight to Old Dominion because of the 3 years probation he was receiving for a camera infraction. We have the count down and names of how many guys have went to OD just out of Garland because of the excessive 3 year probation policy. I won’t share that but it would blow your mind. Perhaps he’s trying to stop the bleeding. The only thing that would stop the bleeding would be to create a new discipline policy. But that most certainly won’t happen because of legal and safety. They can’t appear weak and they most certainly won’t cave to the drivers. So there you go. There will be no meeting in the middle or compromising on this policy. So the revolving door for drivers will continue. As they say. It is what it is. The numbers are good and drivers are expendable. So that’s the end of this story.

From the outside, looking in, this company is clearly attempting to completely "clean house ", either by firing drivers or creating such a caustic work environment that they leave on their own. Their "discipline policy" is merely a pretext for cleaning house under the guise of "safety". They are going to lower wages after they clean house, and continue with a high driver turnover model that is used successfully by the major carriers, aka "meat in the seat".

3 years probation for a "California Roll" that was only caught due to privacy invading dash cam? Really? I don' even work there, but I know tyranny and bullying when I see it. **** You, Saia

It would be so entertaining to see the mega truckload employment model tried on LTL. Those guys tear up equipment bumping docks once or twice a week, in LTL you’re bumping docks 2-3 times per hour, most those guys wouldn’t make it through the first day or two.

You must upload the picture to another site(youtube, photobucket, or some other site) then upload a link to the picture. I had a iPhone and it was the worse 6 months as far as having a cell phone, I've ever had. Luckily, a friend had a android that he hated as much as I hated the iPhone. We swapped phones and all is well in the phone world again.

Based on what I am reading here, I think Saia is playing full court defense. They have painted themselves into a corner with these cams and how they are used in relation to getting freight delivered. They’ve lost sight of their ultimate goal, now they can’t figure out how to refocus without looking incompetent.

I say that you can’t have your cake and eat it too, and you reap what you sow. It’s enjoyable to watch from the outside, seeing the company scramble. But, I feel bad for the drivers who are always caught in the middle.

There is some truth to this statement.
