ABF | Driver facing cameras

:duh:
They really don't need cameras, their drivers don't blow stop signs, unlike some drivers we know.
I stopped once then creeped up to clear an obstruction. It didn’t record the first stop. Honestly I don’t care anymore. If it happens again and they terminate me I will draw unemployment on them. I’m certain it will be denied by them but I will win on an appeal. My Dash Cam will back me up this time. Yes, the Train has one now that’s not biased. Everyone needs to feel some love. There’s more than one way to skin a cat old timer. I will then join you in the land of milk and honey and I will finish out my 3 year probation with my ankle monitor. Then we can go fishing provided the :duh::duh:SAIA law enforcement (traffic division):duh::duh:doesn’t revoke my probation and throw me in the slammer.

Will you get a letter for picking your nose ? of course, you'd have to take your hands off the steering wheel? and will some manager with low morals hide a camera in the ladies room? or men's, depending on the gender that is "identified with" that day?

What if you could pick your nose with your tongue only?

That would warrant a warning letter of some sort......

I think if I had a driver facing camera monitored by company officials......

Then that would be the time for me to take up free-lance opera singing......

Listening to me belt out "La Trattiera" at the top of my voice all day long.....might give them pause.......

Or......maybe the theme from Beverly Hillbillies. ...over and over and over.....

Practice makes perfect, you know......

Drivecam was put in every Sysco truck that was under the company name Union house and non union houses. So I really don’t think that’s something that could be voted on
One of my former Sysco buddies got called into the office and written up for drinking a soda while driving. His was non-union. He's at ABF now.

Then you would be a very successful p*on star and wouldn't be messing with this.

No.........that’s an occupation that requires a high degree of energy........At my age, most of my work days would consist of long naps........

Besides,.......aren’t you supposed to be reasonably good looking in this field of work? .........The guy I was thinking about that could......pick his nose with his tongue..........is uglier than galvanized sin...........

The point is that there is a difference between an “at-will” Employer, and an Employer with a collective bargaining unit.

There are some employees out there who don’t question why they don’t get overtime after 8 hours, or 40. They just.......accept it.

They will do the same with intrusive technology. Just shrug and put your head down.......

Those in a collective bargaining unit will fight to retain our First, Fourth, and any other pertinent Amendment...........even AFTER we’ve punched the time clock.

Come on now, let’s be honest. There are far more members that won’t fight for much of anything. They just say “YES” and sign on the dotted line. They just don’t have nuts that our parents and grandparents had. Just the sad reality. I see the punk asses just accepting what’s given and crying about it until the next contract. Then doing it all over AGAIN!!!!

That would be "Turncoat"

To be perfectly honest,......yes,.....there are regional parts of our country that seem to have problems understanding collective bargaining rights,.....let alone standing up to corporate malfeasance.....

I live in Western Pennnsylvania..........birthplace of militant Unionism....Battle of Homestead, Carnegie, Frick, Samuel Gompers, Rich Trumka.....Steel mills and coal mines are the legacy around here......The viability and necessity of Unions and Solidarity don't have to be explained around here.

Nor do we blindly follow our Union leaders.........there's a long tradition of butting heads with Local and National Labor leaders around here.
But,........even though there's head-butting,..........most everyone around here understands WHY Unions exist. If you're not sure,.....just ask your grandparents. My grandfather was a charter member of Teamsters Local #249.......Many of my uncles were USWA, UMW,.....and Teamsters.....Many of my forbears had their heads caved in by Coal and Iron Police on picket lines..........

The......."tricks".........that corporations use to sway votes and build an anti-Union atmosphere in other parts of our country,..........just don't fly around here......They're just too patently transparent to us around here,.......which makes it puzzling to us why people in other parts of our country seem to fall for these things that are so evidently ......company propaganda.........

ABF's contract got ratified last time by just about 850 votes nationwide. I'm proud to say that the Joint Council #40 area of 5 Locals with ABF members voted down the contract......by about 85%...AND a second vote on the Supplements......

It seems that ABF's "release" of a news article describing an offer by YRC CEO Zollars to....."buy" ....ABF,....in the middle of contract negotiations.......and the IBT's inability to.....STOP....negotiations until that rumor was tracked down and put to rest, one way or another............contributed to the timid waffling and uncertianty among ABF employees.....Thanks,...Fric and Frac......Enjoy your retirement, boys......

As much as it pains me,.....I'll have to agree with you that there are................sizeable pockets..........of ......people who are Union members inasmuch as they grudgingly pay dues,............but from that point out,......they would rather trust their dispatcher whispering to them through the window,........than show up at a Union meeting to stand up like a man, and ask penetrating questions......

Turncoat voted "YES" when the IBT asked for strike authorization in 1994....that turned out really well for us, especially the ABF/Carolina folks. Our membership was drastically reduced from that time forward. With the contract we have now I am doing pretty good and the "Union"....not the companies have pissed my retirement away, remember that 6 billion UPS dropped in, seemed to evaporate mysteriously. Maybe I have a little different take on things. Our forefathers shed blood, sweat and tears so that we get to vote....as we each see fit...not out of fear or itimidation....especially from our Brotherhood! If we strike I'll be on the picket line, but I think our leadership has got more sense than that, but if they deem it necessary, so be it. ABF has a valid argument on the CSPF insolvency, however other funds are in better shape, hence, probably different outcomes on certain supplements, therefore, more in favor in certain regions, there goes your national solidarity.

But yet, you voted yes to the BS that YRCW is under and you left YRC to go to a better contract at ABF? Enjoying yourself, at the expense of other now....SMH

Do you think we would have been better off had YRCW been forced into bankruptcy? I never dreamed living through that, with my kids in college, that I would have an opportunity to work at ABF. Another driver from YRC had the job, but decided not to go about a month before the ABF man retired. I got in only because I was willing to take the gamble. I know ABF is solid financially and the Central States Pension Fund is a hot button issue, but it's not ABF's problem alone to solve. The Union, ABF and the CSPF Trustees have all got to answer this situaton. It's not going to be too pretty, but it's going to get uglier the longer it gets kicked down the road.

Two troll points. Teamsters against Teamsters? Apparently Estes has discipline related to forward facing cameras, i.e. following distance.

YRC and ABF both have began using forward facing cameras with 3rd party monitoring. Both companies have been successful exonerating drivers at the accident scene. This data can be immediately accessed by law enforcement. On the flip side, I personally know of one accident that obviously the driver went to sleep and ran off into the woods. No other vehicles involved. He survived, but has been terminated. The Company and the Union may come to an agreement to reinstate him, but that is not always the case. A shop manager I talked to the other night said he has not heard anything about driver facing cameras at ABF. I know that YRC is using this data also for safety training and designated Union safety employees review "triggered events" with their fellow drivers. The manager sets a time for the safety training, but the drivers review it and the appointed safety review driver submits a discussion report. Management only gets involved in a "bona fide accident".
