SAIA | Why the massive turnover will continue.

That CDL in your pocket is your ticket to freedom and happiness. My best advice: buy your own truck and become an independent O/O. You decide how hard/often you want to work, and that translates to your bank account. The initial costs can be daunting, but it is well worth it. There will always be work and money available to a CDL holder. A great way to get in the door to that type of work is to take some contract work, such as hauling mail for the USPS. 100% no touch freight, dock to dock, good steady work. From there, maybe you buy another truck or 2 and have your own employees. Now you own a company. There is more freight and less drivers every day. Be ambitious. The first step is the hardest.
Thought the Post Office stopped accepting new contractors a few years ago? And it is not 100% no touch. Still easy, but if you like waiting...
Wonder what we pay our contractors?

Potty training first. Gatorade bottle next

Oh I take empty bottles into th restrooms with me and fill them just to leave them in the truck...:17113:
I put the mystery in mystery juice. I put lemon-lime Gatorade in my water bottles to keep guys guessing. I put food coloring in water bottles and randomly throw them in some of my best friends tractors. That was until I got caught on the cameras and put on 10 years probation.:lmao:

I was just reading the Saia mission statement, and the phrase "respects its employees" was included. I'm not an expert, but it doesn't seem to me that Saia is holding up to that ideal. In more ways than one.

Just one person's opinion...

And I thought you drove a truck, It is impossible to to be a truck driver and not be an expert in all fields.

Just most every truck driver's opinion

I told the missus, regardless of the sale price, don't get any of that Coop brand apple juice. She said fancy label, brewed & bottled in a Gold Hotel. I says oh hells no:9529:
Plus Coop brand juices are put in bottles too tall to fit under low clearance shelves in refrigerators....

What’s being reported on why we had this safety meeting is that Whitwell (Regional operations manager) got wind of another senior city driver at the top of the board quitting and going straight to Old Dominion because of the 3 years probation he was receiving for a camera infraction. We have the count down and names of how many guys have went to OD just out of Garland because of the excessive 3 year probation policy. I won’t share that but it would blow your mind. Perhaps he’s trying to stop the bleeding. The only thing that would stop the bleeding would be to create a new discipline policy. But that most certainly won’t happen because of legal and safety. They can’t appear weak and they most certainly won’t cave to the drivers. So there you go. There will be no meeting in the middle or compromising on this policy. So the revolving door for drivers will continue. As they say. It is what it is. The numbers are good and drivers are expendable. So that’s the end of this story.
GRL lost a linehaul driver this week. Been here 8+ years. I don't think that meeting helped.

I think we all saw that one coming Rider. With the 3 year probation being done away with it shows the company is listening. It’s not like we were asking them to come all the way. We were just asking them to meet us halfway or to at least give us something. To compromise. They did and I think they will find it will be well worth it.

Train are you saying, company is doing away with the 3 yr policy?
How many line drivers do you have in GRL.?

Yes, no more 3 years of probation for DriveCam infractions. Close to 90 P&D drivers and approximately 40-50 in the line. Dallas has much more. Fort Worth just opened and is building to take pressure off Dallas. This will have a big impact on driver retention. It’s really a big deal.
