R&L | Mechanics

Sounds like you have it so good "gear head". Your making so much $$$. I'm surprised you have time to sit on hear & bragg. You should be counting your $$$, yeh...right. You are so cool....hiding behind your lap top, you borrowed. man, we are so glad your doing awesome. Please go to your companies site & bragg. No one cares about your BS.

I am not the one who stole scrap metal for sure, that man is an *******, but lets look into you and your post cause all of them sound like management posts, maybe even Mr B, must be nice to have alot of free time like you said to gearhead, I know who gear head is and he was a good mechanic that got caught up by Wil rules. I am not going to chop him down for bragging about his salary, but that is something I will never do, shoudn't bragg about how much better you have it or how much more money you make than others, but I will promote the business i am currently working for. As far as cussing out mechanics happened one time, and I got a write up to prove it. As far as the problems in the NE, they are caused by lack of manpower and not replacing mechanics that left or were fired. All termination decisions were and always will be made by Wil, even with the new NE manager. We had a shop that was supposed to have 6 men down to two for 6 months, how is that good for maintaining anything. Also i never allowed or approved anyone to sign off repairs that were not made. Not only is that a DOT violation but could land your ass in jail when there is an accident. SYR still cant keep a mechanic, they have 21 power units and still will only allow 1 mechanic. To much work for one man, esp with all the write up's, dailey issues and trying to maintain a pm schedule. With the cvsa 2010 R@L shouldnt have one man shops period. You drivers want your trucks right tell wilmington to get all shops the manpower and tools needed to accomplish the mission and get there heads out of number crunching and the old 70's methods. The manpower ratio is 1 mechanic for 12 power units, again and i have said this many times how does a shop with 21 units still have 1 mechanic?? over 12 is a second mechanic were I went to school. R@L has dedicated employees but shouldnt be running them into the ground. There is more to life than working your ass off.

So tell me big cheese did you have a bad cheese sandwich??? I dont like swiss cheese either!!!

well said ^^^^

This describes one of the bigger reasons why I am leaving. I am doing the only thing that I have control of and that is moving on.

i got a level 3 roadside inspection yesterday and the inspector found no defects.
i try and do a good pre-trip and post trip inspection daily, it paid off yesterday.

f eddiie B , the ratio is a guideline to use, from what i was told ? There is situations where the ratio has went up & down. You know that. I know the compoany will use an outside maintenance service if they get behind. I was talking to drivers that said, there was tire vendors & outside sublet vendors in locations picking up some of the extra work load. Must be a good balance, sounds like you never had that option ? There is locations without shops getting level 3 inspections & getting a clear pass. So your info reflects back onto you. Someone must not be reporting the data into the right person ? I know the company has never denied sending in the traveling mobile mechanic or using sublet vendor help ?

R&L has treated me good, i always have good safe equipment to do my job, we got the sick days and 401k back,
let's be positive and move forward and try to keep the freight coming in right through the winter.

I would have to say BS on this part. I have been denied the travelling mechanic more times than I care to remember. The only times vendors were used were when we were off duty or the breakdown was too far away. I don't want to sound like I am bashing but I have several years of enduring this. I only know of only one regional who did not allow this situation to occur. I won't be there to see how the new one is going to handle things but it is no longer my problem.

why where you denied the travel position were you not qualified also if it is no longer your problem why are you on here crying move on like you said but my guess on why you were denied was because your performance might have been like your name say slow. just my thoughts do not bash the company I work for you do not want that fight on your hands.

I have been with RtL for 12 years and seen alot of shop formen go and some regional bosses but if you punch in do at least 7to 8 hrs work showup everyday keep your work area clean and don`t mess with others stuff you should be ok things will turn around they have before. now I have a ***** the time that they have upped the alignment miles on the units to 150,000 dang that will take years for some units like city and they are the ones that need it the most not saying all do it but hit a few curbs pot holes and you alignment is knocked out well they want to pay money for tires ( also square rims) this is dumb

Learn how to punctuate and capitalize. As far as the rest, you have absolutely no idea who I am. (Heres a hint, there is not a travelling mechanic position at the terminal I was from)
It was not the position denied to me, it was the help when I needed it. I don't think it was the company at the time but the regional who made the decision.

Hey "aligner", have the safety lane check for irregular tire wear. If the SF checks the safety lane sheet & then has someone check the equipment, they could still capture the units with the major tire wear issues, that need aligned but don't get the fast miles put on them. I know there is a lot of good drivers that monitor the tire wear & they get written up, then checked. Alot of drivers were saying they get 125k to 150 k on a set of steer tires. I was told they were trying to make the tire change match the alignment interval. I heard this was working out.

Also to Ian & John C , I'm not EB or BH. But I've worked with you both of you. It's interesting,,,,,,,,,,heard Ian was begging to come back ?

New here to. What I've noticed is the manager switches shops he checks on every so often. Goes good for a while then bang. Sticks his nose in where it doesnt belong and you get written up or a phone call. I think this is funny. If you miss something and it gets back to him, he calls and asks why or what happened. At my shop it's always the same. So much to get done every shift, always rushing around. You try to tell them that and they don't care. ***** you out or write you up anyway. Very bad management practices at this company. Get used to it, or one of 2 options. Get your resume online and find another job, or accept the fact that one day you will be fired. R&L management rule #1, keep the employee in fear of losing their job.

The reason that the traveling mechanic has been denied to a shop that has requested him is that he is being used at a location that has no mechanic at this time. At some locations new hires are starting one week and quitting the next week. The one traveling mechanic that is available has not been back to PHL since March. This, despite the fact that he has had personal problems and has been denied his request to stay in PHL a week to get these problems straightened out. Almost no location has their full compliment of mechanics. This includes PHL, the shop that does the major repairs for all of the one mechanic location in the NE region.

phl shop? what shop?.....saw on careerbuilder that they needed 3 people, shop forman, body guy, and class a engine guy?........so what major work is gettin done there?.......lol

You want to talk about issues. SYR has over 20 power units and 30+ trailers and hasen't had a full time mechanic last over 5 weeks since the beginning of the year. There has been a traveling guy there every week. But apparently thats not enough work for two mechanics. Several trucks go down weekly, but they're expected to keep up with services. And the shop, what a dump. Only 1 1/2 bays. You can barely fit a 48 in the long bay. The word is out on the working conditions for a new mechanic and now they can't even get anyone to apply. It's gonna get interesting!!

Don't forget last year when JC was in SYC. He took pics of the shop and all the parts not put on. Then emailed them to other shops. This year he checked NEW I think it was. Took pics and emailed everybody with text about it. The last sentence was " this proves one thing and one thing only our mechanics are not doing their jobs. " What do you think that did for morale. What do they expect, understaffed and nothing done about drivers damaging equipment. Plus all the services and write ups. Killing morale like that, worst management tactic to use. Lets see how the new Regional guy does? He couldn't get guys to stay and work when he ran the shop. So let's make him the overseer of the Northeast.

Dont do any good the SF dont care and the tire shop tells them to write it up and the next shift will change ha ha ha big joke any way when I do get to align the tire shop will not change balance and rotate so ?????? cant say any thing about it I do my job and stay bussy some times I just do it myself.....

I've been pretty lucky with my truck, it's rarely in the shop. Some of the drivers with the newer trucks have seen the most problems. EGR's have been a real issue and parts vendors sending the wrong parts or not sending them at all.

is rl desperate for mechanics now? now they offering a $1000 sign on bonus to please come work for them. sounds like they desperate now they looking into brivery.......lol

just curious now, how long does a mechanic have to work for them in order to collect this money? dont think mechanics will last long to collect, before they know it, they will be either drawn to quit early or fired before they collect.
