ODFL | Stockton votes for possible union

I have a very good friend ever since grade school and he tells me that his son is a city driver and that OD is an excellent place to get fired for any accidental infraction of company policy or just to let you all know that they have the mussel. Its called productivity through intimidation . Its nothing new Roadway did it for years . The only thing that Roadway drivers had over OD is that the union would stand up to this type of action against their drivers and dock men .
Not true at all. Go troll on your YRC thread.

All I'm going to say is ask yourself why doesn't the company want a Union or are so afraid of a Union? More reason to vote yes for Union representation! Does Old Dominion bail you out of jail if you get in an accident and are charged? YRC does and you will get your job back eventually too! Can you file a grievance if you are not paid properly at Old Dominion or have an issue that you can't resolve with your manager/supervisor? So many reasons to be Union.
Yeah. Great idea. Get a union in so we can be like YRC and take paycuts and be members of the dying pension fund.

Not a instigator at all , just wonder why his son would tell him that ,what has he to gain? Perhaps some terminals are a little easier to work for and others not so easy . Or are you saying I'am a instigator for my comments about Roadway ?

Why do you think that you would turn out like YRC ? Is your top management like YRC 's ? Why do you think ya might not be as successful as ABF or UPS and UPS Freight or ( Holland if they could break away from the YRC group) .Would you be afraid to work for any of these companies ? None of these companies have at will employees . BTW not all Teamster Pensions are in trouble in fact many are in pretty good shape .

I don't know your friend or his kid, but how would you explain OD's low turnover? My S/C hasn't had a P&D driver leave either involuntary or otherwise in years,or when drivers come from competitors talk about the lower stress levels in their lives, BTW the Teamsters lost this election, and the former T/M moved on(not the first time a bad TM was removed by employee request)

Don't know much about OD could be a very good place . Just passing along from what I hear . All I know is what I'am told . Could be you work out of a really good barn and maybe this kid don't . When ya have a lot of terminals some are better than others and vice versa. Me personally 44 years prefer being union . Good pension money coming in every month had great health care really no complaints . Still see many of the other guys at breakfast once a month all are doing good got good lives other than some ailments not related to the union . I really don't understand where all this negativity about the union comes from . Let me ask you this , does OD have meeting disparaging the unions ? I know that some if not all nonunion management are told by upper management to have meetings to not even think about it or there would be consequences .

I've never been to a anti union meeting, or sat through a one on one meeting with a supervisor on the subject. A word about myself, I've been driving 38 years, all in freight,a few years as an IBT member. Old Dominion without a doubt is the best outfit I have worked for on most every level. I drive new smoke free equipment, we work out of state of the art facilities, benefits are decent, and the pay is competitive with anyone in the industry.

These are good men here, grown men with plenty of experience. If they wanted a union job that's where they would be.
And if they wanted a union job where would they find one ? Don't think there's enough of union companies out there to satisfied the demand of those that want a union job . If ya can't find a union job then ya have to take whats out there or work in a different industry .

I used to work for ABF. Not a bad place, but not nearly as good as OD. OD is the most successful LTL last I checked.....

What could the union offer us that would truly help us here?

My experience is that what's out there is typically better. My own opinion. I just feel like the unions do nothing for its workers anymore.

Well for starters I like having o/t after 8. I Like not being an employee at will especially when I have a family to provide for, I like health insurance for my family at no cost to me , I like having a good pension and more . I may very well wind up like my father that was on his Teamster pension for 30 years before he passed and still left mom with enough to live on with out coming to her children . I don't see where my experience is that bad.

I came over from YRC and the biggest thing I've noticed is that there is a team aspect within this company. There isn't a "pecking order" within the ranks, pitch in and get it done. TeamCare is good insurance and the price can't be beat but our benefits aren't anything to sneeze at either.

Just out of curiousity FLD, what is your monthly insurance premium and how many do you cover?

I have worked for a few LTL companies, one union. I have also worked at several terminals with OD, I have several close family members and friends who work for union companies. I DO NOT without a shadow of a doubt want to work for a union carrier, I want to work for OD and I'm also a harsh critic of OD as well. Now, that is how I feel and I totally respect how you union members feel. I am also a grown adult and can choose to leave if I want, your consistent insinuations about non union members, by possible not taking care of myself and my family good enough due to me not being union is dumb. We disagree and you should respect the fact that I want to be an at will employee, work in fear, pay for my insurance (as you say), drive new well maintained trucks, work in new terminals with new equipment and a good environment (as I say cause I actually work for OD).

Now it has been awhile since I have been in trouble with truckingboards, was banned for a bit, I am willing to stoop to your level and risk being banned :sign0024: if your not going to act like an adult and respect our opinions. I don't troll and start :shhit: on your side, so take your :stirthepot: back please. I am willing to have a group hug:grouphug: and move on as well:guiness:.

Don't you love how they troll saying we need to go union ,but you never see a non union trolling the union sites trying to bust them. They need us more right now then we need them, wasn't always that way but it is true right now
