SAIA | Hiring Current Union Employees

Thank you for your defense.. I am a ups freight driver.. I think we get paid a good penny $28.70 per hour and.72cpm so yes we are some of the lowest paid..oh yeah my pension
The only reason you have that is because of the backing of UPS parcel. YRC and ABF are the poster children of why the Teamsters fail in the LTL industry. All the Teamsters have is UPS ... The rest the nons leave in the dust. The pension will be cut in time. I will take my IRA and my wife’s 401K and we will be just fine. I’m glad you have what you have but don’t forget YRC and ABF have been forgotten by the Teamsters. Maybe I should say forsaken.

No, but it will be cut. Western states is fine but some of the others are underfunded. They will have no choice. Central states is in deep trouble as I’m sure you know.

Please explain your reasons for YRCW ABF comment. I’m interested in seeing how you twist this.

I’m tired today and exhausted. It was 108 in Dallas today. I will get into it this weekend. But I will say this now. ABF .... July 1st 2018 .. 30 cent increase... 2019 .. 35 cent .. 2020 40 cent .. 2021 .. 45 cent .. 2022 .. 50 cent .... When FedEx got around $2.00 this year and every one else gets around $1.00 every year ... SAIA gave us $1.05 .... It appears to me someone is getting left behind. I’ll be back.

Same reply I’m posted in XPO union thread. If your just looking at pay rate which is just then the company has you duped. Pay rate maybe higher but healthcare coverage brings rate down (Estes and AAA can add spouse if job provides it). No overtime or after 45 50 and 55. Local cartage OT after 8, Road drivers paid all time spent while in service of employer layover, breakdown, wait for load, wait for hotel check in. Run cut short still paid original dispatch miles. 8 hour guarantee for both classifications. Like I’ve said previously nons get you in door throwing pay rate at you , but bottom line what you do at the end of year after all cost and time is add to total. I promise you a Union man works smarter and not as hard or long at the end of day. Paycheck will average the same so I ask how can a -15% Pay rate YRCW employee paycheck net the same or average near a substantial higher pay rate as a non union employee?

They should have voted no! Right after contract is passed ABF has enough money to start everyone at top rate plus now their pension contribution is frozen at current rates what a disgrace.

Do they consider current union employees ?

I know a driver from holland interviewed with us and as soon as that was revealed, they were not hired and the tm admitted that any union affiliation was not wanted here. There completely paranoid of unions. They set are wage packages and compensation similar (not exactly) to unions to keep the employees from organizing but don’t want to loose there stong arm tactics.

Thank you I will make sure to apply now and then a file a lawsuit when they don't hire me!

Mark my words if a vote was taken today it would be an overwhelming yes company wide. People are 100x more pissed off than they ever have been and with the driver shortage there are too many high paying driver jobs available

Nahh, if that were the case then IBT would be trying to organize. It could be that IBT just doesn’t care about freight anymore. Time is right for a different union to organize freight
