Central Transport | Your exp at your local terminal

Thanks for the reply guys, have been researching And am thinking of joining FXF,OD, or Estes when my time is done here. Luckily I live in ATL and I don't have to be stuck at central lol

You’re right about one thing, the drivers definitely do have to report the problem. If they don’t then the machanics can’t fix it. That you’re right about. My issue is when you take broken equipment to them and they don’t have the tools to fix it. Not to mention they get treated so poorly by corporate. For instance, this past winter, Mathew (me perfects saving grace) decided to turn off the heat in the shop because it was costing too much, so the machanics had to work with no heat. So, no heat, boom go the water pipes....they burst. So what does Mathew do? Get a plumber to come fix them? Nope! They turn the water off too. So now the machanics have no heat, and no water, in the dead of winter. And they expect them to do their job like that. Way to take care of you employees Mathew.

Wow that’s insane!! How can someone treat people like that. Back when I work there they had an ok budget. But they cut corners on everything. I was a linehaul driver, dock worker, yard jockey and some times inbound supervisor all at the AC.

Yesterday I saw one of the "new" Peterbuilts, looks like it has never seen wash bay, bald tires, bumper half off, had to chuckle about the "updated fleet"
Central Transport is a very bad company to work. For. Anytime they don't offer direct deposit. What company not offering that. Why they don't care. The only drivers defending them is ones that has to work there. High risk drivers. Or new drivers with less then a year experience.

Who's going to catch it if the driver doesn't? Its not like there are people standing in the yard checking you at the gate and unless it came from a break there are no switchers. That's the drivers responsibly to do a pretrial and post trip. Certain terminals will write the driver up if they pull junk like that into their barn. This company has all the resources they need, they just don't babysit these grown men and women. So usually the same people complaining about the equipment are the same people not wanting to take the time to do a proper pre and post trip. I'm sure you can understand that the shops rely on the drivers to tell them when something is wrong so when the drivers say nothing then who's fault is that
Hows reporting it on the Dauphin and mvr and to the mechanics and being told it has to be dropped and they cant fix it now. Then being told by the terminal manager it must go its hot.Take it or go home.Happened to me and im sure many others.Garbage like this is why they have to post 5000 bonus to hire. And weekly radio advertisements.Theres the bottom in this line of work and then theres central.

Looking at a company's CSA score is a wise thing to do before signing on with them. If more drivers would do this and make employment decisions based on these scores, they could avoid a lot of headaches. If Central spent the next three years getting their score down to say the likes of ODF, then they could have a shot at entering the top 10 ltl carrier positions, avoid so many DOT inspections and attract more drivers. The DOT sees trucks coming through their scales and looks at the company wide score on their computer to decide if they should do a Level 1 inspection. High score = Level 1 inspection. Troopers aren't going to waste their time on an ODF truck when a Central truck is three trucks back waiting to scale.

I will admit the equipment "looks" better which sparked my curiosity and brought me to this forum. We had a city driver come over from CT after 12 years and he had some stories. I expected the bad, which there was plenty, but the main thing that shocked me was how much he was making in the Cleveland Ohio market. They actually pay well around here, don't get me wrong, I'd never want to work there, but I was surprised nonetheless. They would need to keep this pace up at every location to even be seen as a viable player in the ltl industry, let alone get over the negative light that has followed them for years.

This is the worse place i ever worked for period of time .At least 5 diffrent terminal mangers in the years i was there.Heres a short list of the issues i encountered in the years i was there.
Expired registrations
ez pass tags not paid
Pulling trailer with holes in them with hazmat
Constant brake issues
10 min at a stop and dispatch wants to know the problem
Shorting drivers on hours (Constant issue)
Mangement telling drivers you wont get your paycheck if your mvr isnt turned in
Trailers being pulled with forklift drivers in the trailers
Running 15 stops a day and coming back and unloading your trailer and be told you cant go home till you unload over the road trucks,
Hazmat spills leaking out of trailers and never cleaned up
Cherekee insurance (blue shield adminstrater) 90.00 a week for single and pays basicaly nothing out.
Dock workers being yelled at constantly to move faster.
Landing gear giving out and trailers falling on there sides with lift drivers in them
Toilets running over into breakrooms and not being cleaned up for a week
Payroll deductions for damage to company property.
New peterbults being destroyed by drivers and no one held accountable.
Call off a day and its deducted off your vacation time.
Constant osha violations and never correcting the issues for any lengh of time.
Several 100 employes quiting or terminated in 2017.
Drivers driving away with fuel nozzel still in truck tanks
That fat pig they call Damien in is bath pa this week. Looks like there is a issue with the fearless terminal manager brought into make it run right.330 dock and drivers lost in a year. Yay go central

The reason I stay is my week's end pay check. I have never groseed over 2 grand a week consistently. Well I do here for 5 days a week. I have a clean driving record and a more importantly a clean criminal record. The other places blow so much smoke up your ass it's insane. I could care less about over time after 40 if you don't work but 45 or less hours per week. Who gives a crap about direct deposit? We get out checks a day before pay day anyways.

This dude must be on drugs I think. Who cares about direct deposit??? Like really?? Who wants to run into a bank weekly? What if you have plans what if you’re on vacation out of the country and see something really nice that you want to buy? Oh that’s right you don’t have direct deposit so you gotta wait. What if you had a emergency situation that you needed that money right there and now, oh you can take it to Walmart and cash it and lose money. You’re a funny guy

How about not living pay check to pay check. WOW.

Well hey some drivers in this world situation is different from others. My situation isn’t pay check to pay check living. Working for a company with crappie insurance and no direct deposit speaks high on don’t work for them. I was paying almost $500 a month and the insurance didn’t pay for anything. They give you fools pay checks just in case the company goes under. Living you guys fighting to get a final check. The went out and got all those brand new trucks and barely servicing them.

Did a few months at Hillside terminal on mannheim rd in the nineties when i ran with a union leasing co i remember a truck window height convayer belt for the bills and swing doors that were light and flimsey i was booted out of there because i didnt understand pro numbers and stickers

Going out business either you haven't done your homework or your just stupid, Central has been around longer then just about any other LTL out there and will continue to purchase more companies throughout the years to come. We are only getting better and bigger every year. That is a lot more then I can say for some of the companies out there. You should be looking at your publicly traded company when you talk about going out of business. All it takes is a couple quarters of turning lower then expected profits and bye bye

Wow that's old school. Have never seen anything like that.

A lot has changed in the past year since Matthew took the company over. His priorities and veiws are much different from his fathers. I'm sure you have noticed the complete makeover with equipment on the street. That was just the beginning, pay at terminals have been increased up to 25%, better benefits, record breaking freight levels, higher referral bonuses, higher sign on bonuses, happier, better atmosphere at terminals. There has never been another LTL company that updated their fleet in this large of a scale in this short of a period of time. Honestly I thought no way it will never happen but he pulled off.
Central Freight updated their equipment on a grand scale back in the early 2000's like this.

This is a complete lie. Other trucking companies try to recrute Central drivers daily because they are trained to do everything.
Yea if you can get by with problematic equip at CT you can handle working for any other LTL.
But I consider CT gambling with your CSA score.

Now all the trucks are registered at 60k but still want you to pull 30k+ box. Crazy. Guys are getting nailed at scales houses for being 70k.
