CF Trailer and Dolly

I miss those days workin on the dock on second shift, or out in the yard switching the dock, man those were the days, life was alot easier back then, if I could of thats where I would of retired from
 
I had 18 with them in Seattle. My Dad (who got me the job) had 39 with them in Seattle. The job I have now is a good job driving line Monday through Friday but it ain't the same. The people I worked with at Consolidated are still and will remain life long friends. Although at different Companies around the area we still keep in touch and get together to make fun of each other's bellys and gray hair. My Dad recently passed away and the turn out of the "old timers" at his funeral was overwhelming to my family. My generation of CF people also showed up to show their respect to a man they all admired. A very emotional day. Reading these posts I'm sure that all of us feel the same way about Consolidated Freightways.
 
This past Saturday, I saw a mail contractor pulling a CF 48 footer with full length logos on the sides and the bold CF on the back...

Even here at UPS Freight, I see the ol Road System pups that Motor Cargo had bought from CF, which entered our system when Overnite and Motor Cargo merged, and took the UPS Freight name. Some have the loadbars that are permanently on the vertical tracks, which I thought was pretty clever, some of the pups still have the CF numbers on the inside...I believe I have some pix somewhere

Those trailers i believe were air ride, the number inside did it start with a 23-####??? Those were the last new trailers i saw at CF.
 
I'll have to locate my pictures Stimpy and check for the numbers, I recall CF installing special name plates on the side that said "air ride" to showcase the technology they utilized on these pups, although I'm sure Motor Cargo removed them when they stripped the pups of logos and what not. You could see the holes from the old CF logos that went down the length of the pup sides, and Motor Cargo retained the red under frames on the former CF pups although some are also black from what I've seen not sure if that was done by Motor Cargo...
 
We also had a couple 48's with those type of bars. They were nice, but I prefer the logistic trailers we have now at Holland. It is easier to build loads with the removable bars, multiple levels, multiple bars in one slot. The permanent bar style is nice don't get me wrong, they did get bent by high freight, or by a forklift. I think that system would have been better on a taller trailer.
 
Keep those memories rolling, had a lot of fun getting paid to drive to the next party, but it all ended when I got married. But starting there when I was 23........Always had to nap on the way home!
 
Some of those trailers would come through with the bars missing, or being suspended by multiple layers of tape or bungee cords, seem if they got damaged the trailer was screwed, it would also limit tall freight from being loaded, but still a great idea. I know our logistic post trailers will come through with only 2 or 3 loadbars and you cant do much, especially if their aren't any extras on the dock or not enough pallet racks...I also see a few CF pallet racks come through as well, I recall quite a bit of them on the Atlanta docks for the auction after the closure.
 
One thing Yellow absolutley does not have is rope to tie stuff up against the wall. Never seen it here. Of course they way they load freight, it probably would'nt help. I see **** poor loading everyday. 10 years at CF taught me how to stuff a trailer, well.
The dock supervisors at Yellow leave me alone when I go into CF mode. I did an
STP trailer today with 20 bills and 25000 plus lbs. Guaranteed to scale.
Whenever this happens, (a lot) I tell the supervisor to take a picture. Because it's a work of art. I take a lot of pride in filling a trailer, properly. I see a lot of junky
loads leaving because some people don't know how to load, or would rather socialize.
