SAIA | Driver Facing Cameras - 1 Situation Where They Increase Hazard

You guys are saying SAIA would walk away Scott free and not pay a dime. You are sadly mistaken. I understand why the cameras exist. If you we’re drunk in a company vehicle you could possibly do some time. But reaching for a Dr. Pepper wouldn’t do it. You guys are really reaching just to spread paranoia. And I find that rather comical. And nothing for nothing still equals nothing. And most drivers on here have very little. People want million dollar insurance policies that trucking companies have. Hell, look at your personal insurance policy on your car. It’s limited to 30K in most cases. There is always a way to beat the system if you’re smart.

You might lose your job and driving career but that’s about it. And as I look back on my 45 year driving career that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I don’t have any regrets but if I had to do it over I would have got a college degree and became something more than a truck driver. It’s still an honorable profession but I would have liked to have had more opportunity that higher education brings. Hindsight is always 20/20 as we all know.

Nothing for nothing still equals nothing. Jail time? Not likely! You guys are just spreading paranoia.

And this comes from a driver who starts a thread...Now that I’m retired...let’s expose the truth? Never said Saia or any company would walk away Scott free nor did truckdriver.

I just told the truth! I’m not trying to spread paranoia. Just want guys to know what this company brings to the table. Jail time is ridiculous and unless you are totally negligent that would never happen.

Look, this company sucks on so many levels it’s ridiculous. The cameras are just a small part of it. I will get back into it when deer season is over. I’m not wasting my time on here when I have better things to do. I just thought I’d drop in for a quick comment or two. Trust me, I’ve just touched the tip of the iceberg.

Ok, now you made me do research so here goes. This is off a lawyers website and his address is on the top if you want to verify. So remember, I’m totally against cameras and my comment was that it’s possible to be prosecuted for other activities in a truck and the company you work for will do whatever they can to put it on YOU. If you killed someone while doing anything besides driving, the lawyer hawks would be all over you for ANY of these besides phones. If your too naive to believe that than so be it, hope it never happens. And yes there are exceptions that would limit an employers liability. Didn’t make the law, just reading it. So I don’t find anything comical at all about it. Do your own research train, I’m not retired, I’m still working and certainly not paranoid of anything. I don’t delete any of my posts and say what I want while still employed.

I was never stupid enough to do anything in regards to the above mentioned. I learned quickly with this companies heavy handed approach to camera downloads. I simply pulled over and set my brakes and took care of the business that I needed to. You’re really kind of missing my point. Lawyers are evil IMO and will promise you anything to make a buck but they want the big bucks. The kind of money that exist in trucking companies insurance policies. They for the most part are not interested in going after a truck driver. They don’t have to kind of money they want. In the end the trucking company is who they want because that’s where the big money is. It all goes back to what I continue to say. Nothing for nothing still equals nothing. Truck drivers have nothing but chump change. There are not many truck drivers that are millionaires.

I got your point, I know how that works as well. Just making a statement about what could happen to loose your piece of the pie was more important than there’s. If I’ve learned anything from my time here is that saia will go to great lengths to make sure they don’t give away money to frivolous nonsense without preparing for it ahead of time. If that takes YOU falling on the sword, you will. These cameras have caused more harm than good imo. Don’t believe it will change though. We’re on the same side, you’re just in the bullpen now..or boat..or hunting:guiness:

And my friend these cameras are here to stay along with the ridiculous Bluetooth and CB policy.

So if I’m driving a 2012 or older truck with no camera, how would the company prove at fault to the driver? And why wouldn’t they put them in all company vehicles including management if they were so bent on “safety”. If that would happen, even a tm/sales could never use a cell phone or electronic device in that vehicle, right.

Good point. It’s a policy/procedure that applies to some, and not all. It’s enforced on some, but not all. Kinda like many of the policies that Saia has in place. Smoking/tobacco, padlocks, seatbelts...you get the idea

Right! I’ve tried thinking through this as logically as I can and it just doesn’t add up. I mean if they wanted to stick with the safety theme it would be in/on everything. If there saying that older trucks aren’t worth the money then that blows safety right out the window. It only takes 30 minutes to switch the damn thing to another newer truck. I just don’t get it and probably never will. I guess it is just a big :fingure:

Come on drivers, sharpies on the cameras :lmao: We’re smarter than that. You can’t doodle on the lense like a toddler. Here in the south, bugs get on everything and are nasty. When they get on my camera lens, I clean it with a new piece of steel wool because they can really impede a clear view if left on too long. Safety first

I find a good dab of forehead grease mixed with some dash dust every day makes for a good fuzzy video
