ABF | Driver-facing Cameras

The commute is really the only big thing… I’m happy otherwise. I was under the impression when I first hired on, by my own fault since I neglected to ask, that OD had lay down schedules as well as turns. Atlanta used to but has done away with them. When I was on the extra board it wasn’t a big deal because I usually stayed gone all week and only had to make the commute once or maybe twice during the week. Now that I have a schedule I’m commuting five days a week, and I’m realizing now that that’s quite a drag and it’s putting a lot of miles on my car. We are also adding at least two more terminals in the Atlanta area and I can just see that that is going to create a lot of shuttle runs and it’s not voluntary to go do one at the end of your normal run. With that plus the possible big shake up in the LTL world with YRC it seems now would be the time to move if I’m going to move. I’ve got 30 more years at least until I can retire, and I just can’t see driving 90 miles a day five days a week for another 30 years.
Just to put in my 2 cents, I worked for OD when OD had one terminal in Atlanta (by 285, across from the old Roadway terminal on Moreland Avenue) for 5yrs starting in 1985. So I have a little experience at both companies (both OD and ABF have changed a lot in those years so maybe not relevant) and I would stay at OD. But good luck either way.

FYI, Lawrenceville is a city terminal only. There is no linehaul board at this terminal (089).

Thank you. That is exactly my point; if I could do it over again (if I knew then what I know now) I would would still be employed at OD. But you do stupid stuff when you're young. And the trick is to learn from your mistakes and, when possible, try pass that information on to others to keep them from making the same mistakes.

MT, I found you a shirt.

Again, and I wish you would write this down so I can stop repeating and explaining it to you, it is getting very old, it's like explaining something over and over to an illiterate child, I voted with the majority of ABF employees, I supported the union and voted for their negotiating committee, I voted for the recommendation of every local union in the United States! What about that is so hard for you to understand and remember?

So how did the IBT ask us to vote? How did every local union 2 man committee ask its members to vote? How did the negotiating committee ask ABF employees to vote? Maybe if you answer those questions you can remember and understand what you don't seem to understand!

If the Ibt, 2 man, and all the locals asked you to jump of a bridge...… would you? Now if you said you voted yes because that's what you thought would be best for you and yours after you read and researched what was offered then I got no problem. But I have a big problem if you voted yes because they told you to.

So you hire a lawyer to represent you and refuse to follow his advice because he told you? How about a real estate agent? Would you have a problem with what a real estate agent negotiated for you? How about a fireman telling you to jump out a window to avoid being burnt in a fire? Or how about a fireman telling you to drop your child out a 3rd story window to avoid the same flames? How about consumer reports, would you disregard everything in consumer reports just because they "printed" the safety ratings of a product?
And do we even want to get into the recommendations of your doctor? How many times have you followed the instructions of your doctor simply because your doctor said so? Well, how many ? This is not a theoretical question, I would like to know how many times you blindly followed your doctors instructions because your doctor said for you to get this shot, take those pills, visit this specialist?

And to answer your question (because you asked and I expect you to answer mine) I would walk over to the edge and look. But if the majority of people where jumping off the bridge, then yes I would jump. I'm smart enough to know that if the majority of people are jumping off a bridge there is a really good reason! Or don't you think most people would look before jumping? Any group of people you know that would walk out on a bridge and jump off just because they were told? What group would that be? The name of this group of people please.

I don’t answer to traitors! You know you are.
You should quit. You don't like how the majority voted. You hate our union officers. The majority of employees disagree with your option and vote against your beliefs. You should quit. You are not wanted in the union.

Did I hurt your little feelings? Go cry to people that have respect for you. I don’t. You’re putting a lot of words in my mouth taitor. Truthfully I just like watching you cry because no one likes ya.

Don't start with that quit ::shit:: again, you are the one who wishes he stayed at OD. People want to stay here & try to make it better no shake their head yes to everything the company say's.... Ya,Ya I already know your answer the union said so. One question for you, where are all the poster's that were pro contract? They have not been back since the contract was signed, the company would not put people on this site to sway the vote in their favor....would they....

Is ABF the only ltl that doesn't have linehaul drivers at every terminal or is it only a union thing

No, it's not a Union thing, Brother........Any change in jobs or dispatch has to be negotiated in a Change Of Operation,....and drivers are contractually allowed to "follow the work".
This makes the Union companies think their strategic use of the road drivers through....and protects guys from randomly being jerked from job to job,..or out of a job...

Not perfect,....but it does do a good job of protecting the available work,....and prevents a company from closing a facility out of,.......revenge...(...like a threat of an organization drive..)..

The smaller end-of-line terminals are,....usually,....serviced by the linehaul drivers out of the larger hubs.
