ABF | Why are abf drivers/ and management dogging another union company???

I for one will stick up for abf guys. When we were going through our troubles they were our biggest supporters. When their co tried to stick them we(YRC) supported them and they saw how we got shafted and still are being. You are hearing 2 or 3 disgrunteled people that do not represent ABF. The shame of it is you can't go back and see all the good wishes that our brothers gave us on the old board, maybe if you did you would calm down and support your brothers the way you should.WE are ALL in this together and if WE don't stick together WE are going to be royaly screwed by the Companys. So in conculusion, in the words of my father"take a midol and relax!".

hey what happened to dumb A** Wendy? Starts crap then runs, PMS is a B***H, haha

Why push on people? Wendy stepped back (it seems) to view the big picture. And here you come staples throwing darts at someone that is leaving you alone. Maybe you are the kind Wendy first complained about?

ABF and YRC are really all the pension funds have to rely on for our retired brothers and sisters. Let's all just get along! we are all in this mess together. None of our fault Mismanagement and non's looking to do us in and hoping to lower their standards ie 37cts/mi no bennies I could go on you get the point.

Wow...I work for YRC as a driver.I've never been offended by any ABF personell.we are all in this together.if you want to know my personal opinion.I do think the two corporate heads at ABF and YRC work together to dismantle our union.we both went through the same paycut vote
Labor is under attack in this country.how far down on our knees do we go for less pay.pay cuts hurt our economy and our recovery.

I agree with bigtruk_us to some extent.

I believe that there is/was a plan by TMI to get these companies under NMFA to come together as one entity so that the plug can be pulled on organized freight. The only glitch was that ABF wouldn't go along with their TMI Brethren in this endeavor.

ABF has always been known as a good operator and a survivor and they're not going to forgo their brand/name recognition to try and dismantle the "evil union scourge". I think that they think more of their company than to pimp it for something as trivial as this.

ABF has gone thru several acquisition periods (Navaho, ETMF, Carolina) and have survived them all only to come back stronger than ever. Some of you old timers here will also remember the "Kelso era". L. Kelso nearly broke ABF before the Youngs regained control of the company and righted the ship.

ABF is a tough, solid co. They're financially conservative and operationally strong. I believe that if you are fortunate enough to work at ABF, you don't have to worry about the future of this co. They're not going anywhere but forward in this tough industry.

That may apply for the drivers & casuals. I have seen them recall everyone who wanted to come back. I am now seeing casuals that haven't been here in a long time. But what they are doing now is sending our office jobs to a central place. This is what YRC did before they sent them to india. Is this what is in our future? How many teamster jobs will be eliminated before some one notices.

Big Bucks Being Paid By ABF!

I believe that ABF management will stop at nothing to get out of paying over $12.00 a hour more to their drivers ($8.55 an hour pension and $3.55 an hour wages) than YRCW does! YRCW drivers will be asked for more wage and benefit concessions, and some kind of "national work rules" to make them "competitive"! Whether or not these concessions will pass is anybodys guess, but you gotta realize that ABFS will be asking for nearly the same! Let's just remember that a harm to one is a harm to all, and try to stick together during these rough times!:clappy:

Freightmaster1 you are right about ABF not stopping at driving our pay/pension /benefits down at any cost.., but today they have our "UNION" on their side.Only to protect their own job.You would do the same!! as I. Sticking together is over. It's sad ... but unfortunately true "3rd Generation Teamster" unfortunately educated.I wish I was a Teamster MULE, never wrong always right. But today our Leaders will not take us forward. We are now at their Mercy!

These consolidations will hurt them just as they have hurt YRC but I think that ABF will see the err of their ways and react quicker to repair the problem than just simply stand by and watch the walls cave in on them or run away from the problem as YRC has done...

I wish I had a good response for the loss of good, union jobs. All I can say is that I wish that Ms. McReynolds and Co. would possess enough foresight, hindsight and good judgment to value good customer relations and service over cutting labor costs... A line from business 101 "It takes money to make money"... You get what you pay for...

Maybe because of fools at yrc:

Like this quote from the yrc forum. about the new "YRC" concession

"Doesn't sound to bad. Its just 5 more years of the same. In 9 months they start paying some amount into pension. We need to get ABF to go for this as well then we teamsters can stand together. "

Are we 2 billion in dept?? are we about to drown??
Just cause YRC wanted to be the UPS of the trucking industry...and FAILED ...we should accept .....oh forget it!
TERDS...just foolish Terds
Misery really does love company...as shown here

If YRC goes down , ABF will soon follow due to the unfunded pension liabilities. If YRC stays afloat with the new concessions ABF will be in a very tenuous position due to their high labor costs compared to everyone else in the industry. You guys too are in a tight spot.

How can you make an assumption like that! I'm going to start off saying that I really do hope that YRC makes it through this but,IMO...notice how I said "IMO", the banks that own YRC are not going to even try to save the company. They're going to try and squeeze all the money that they can out of the working men and women first. And once we stop giving and lost every ounce of self respect, the plug will be pulled.A great physiological victory for the companies! All of these companies are playing the recession card along with the fears to get their agenda accomplished. No one can say for sure what will happen to ABF if YRC goes down, one can only speculate. But don't try to pass your opinion off as fact.I keep hearing about our "high labor costs compared to everyone else in the industry". I have news for you...union companies have always had higher labor costs compared to everyone else in the industry and always made profits in the past.. even enough to fund the start of non union companies then shut down the union companies. This is a fact.I'm a firm believer in not giving in to threats. You let the chips fall where they may.You pick up the pieces and move on.Three words that were pounded in my head years ago...Improvise,adapt and overcome. In the early years, the company men held all the cards and there were Teamsters that actually gave there lives to get what we have today. Now,we have men and women that are willing to give up what we have from their sacrifices just from fear.

Very well put. This guy is saying the same nonsence on the yrc board. I guess misery loves company.

All I have heard is that they want this to be fair. When ABF went to negotiate the wage agreement they were basically told that they would get what YRC got and they accepted it but when YRC goes in the toilet and re-agrees to the new wage reductions ABF is still stuck on the old one. That's not fair even if we are better off financially now we have to shoulder YRC's burden and not get any help.

That is one of my fears. I suspect the reason YRCW wants an extension beyond the NMFA is so your contract can be severely whacked also.

You are right Vwaggs. The next contract will be a one page contract with a take or leave it stamp on the bottom of the page if this goes thru. Once they get to play around with the work rules, it will never stop. It seems alot of people just want to keep their jobs no matter what (can't blame them). However, i was always told that once you give something away, you will never get it back. I cannot tell these people how to vote, We voted no at A.B.F. although our situation is a little different, in the end a yes vote will change everything for every freight teamster, and not in a good way.

I too think a yes vote will not only change everything for freight Teamsters but, also the whole trucking industry. It will start with non union freight companies and the rest will soon follow. Unfortunately, The whole future is in their vote.
