TForce | Big time yard safety coming to your terminal.

I don't have any details on either yard death.
I only heard if from the head of our regions safety department in the Richmond headquarters.
But in my opinion it shouldn't have to have been anyone giving their lives to implement safe working conditions at all of our terminals.

Now BusterNite you've posted many violations that are on going at your terminal.
In your case you have every right to go over your terminal managers head if he's not taking care of unsafe conditions.

I know for myself that was the course I had to take when I was certified.

OHSA has made UPS come under their guidence to have all their terminals as safe as possible,by a certain date,or else face some real serious fines.

So with this process rolling on through our system.
I really pity anyone no matter what position they hold in our company, that either lets these issues slide,or makes the choice of the old Overnite way,of jerry rigging everything allowing something to be used that should be out of service, till its fixed the right way.

What would be the motovation in anyones mind to cause the company thats signing their paychecks, any undue fines because he,or she didn't do what they should be doing?

All the safety policies in the world will not end accidents unless they train people properly....Pull a guy off the dock and throw him in a jockey....Not the best practice to use just because they are busy...But it will happen again and again in the name of progress......And it also needs to be related to people just how big and dangerous these trucks are.....Man they don't say squat about that....I know it is changing but some of that crap I did and see others do out of pure ignorance is scary....And I grew up around these things and there was things I just never thought about...I have just been lucky and or blessed that I can still do what I do.....Without any accidents.....

Well sir your right on the lack of training.
Thats coming to an abrupt end.
There is going to be a lot of training for everything we do from here on.
OHSA has lowered the boom, and UPS will be giving us time to do what it takes the safest way possible.

I've got so much training responsibilty now,I think I should get another $.50 per hour added to my pay scale.

Whenever I retire,or expire which ever comes first,no one at my terminal wants anything to do with taking over my safety training chores.

I know time will tell on any safety training pay raise.
So I'm not going to hold my breath for it.

All the most professional safety training there is. (which ups is hardly) There will still be accidents and injury's. Faulty equiptment, New employees with no experiance and just plain stupidity. Accidents will still continue.

And if the TM don't care???? Mine just says we have to take care of the customers....I'm just going to let him mang himself...And then giggle.....

it is amazing nobody thinks bad things can happen but when they do they say trying to avoid them is to hard personally if it all saves one life a year, i think it is worth it mabey not to fellow employes but mabey to his or her son or daughter that counts on them to come home :sadwavey:

We had are yard training this morning.
We all took a 21 question test together.
We all go 100%.
Now all of us drivers linehaul, and city are yard certified.

We are all going to work together to put these new safety measure into practise.

I for one think its just one more adventure we have to deal with.
Of course the company has to give us more time to do everything safe from here on.

After the training I said to my TM I wouldn't want to be the person thats caught violating any of these new rules.
He said I had that right,OHSA comes in unanounced does,an inspection of our terminal yards.
If theres any violations, that terminal gets find $1000.00 per day,all the way back to last year when this program started.

I can see we are going to be safe, and my TM is behind this effort 100%.

We are all looking at doing it OHSA's way,or it will be bye, bye, down the highway!!

Well that would be your fault BusterNite.
For not watching where your going.
Besides whenever any of us drivers get hurt,or have an accident its always our fualt.

UPS Freight only hires proffessionals.
When all else fails they must blame the driver.

Everthing rolls down hill, and we all know we drivers are at the bottom of the hill.

If I trip over a safety cone thats left out in the yard, Who's fault is it? My fault or the driver that left it there?:hysterical:

Well sir, what is truelly shocking in your statement is not the fact that you tripped over the cone, but the fact that you made no visual interception , which leads me to believe you may need glasses.

Well this is a big saftey issue and I feel you are putting not only yourself at risk but also your piers, and the people in which you share the road with, my golly you mite be dangerous!!!!!!:hide: we will get together with logon and we will have an awnser for you promptly.

Thank you and good nite.....:funky: :funky:

Actually, since they wont buy us decent tire chains, were usually part way up the hill spun out waiting for a hook.

Well just make sure you read trucking 101, by UPS publishing , a book titled," 101 cone tipping techniques. the safe way" and make sure you are wearing your prescription glasses.... ooohhhh and I forgot, safety shoes, we do not need you comming in with a club toe or something.....:hysterical:
