Glen is right.
But you completely missed the point. The point was both companies were sold with no regards to the employees. At Watkins we ended up with those two incompetent sons. Like I said be careful what you ask for in life. Choose wisely Grasshopper !!!When your health starts going south on you and you have 2 sons that you know are too incompetent to run you company what would you have done?

It's theirs , they can sell it shut it down or do whatever they want at anytime.
The real deal here is a bad economy coupled with unprofitable business. Obviously similar circumstances at YRC, ABF, and all the other ltl companies. Shipments are not weighing as much, there are fewer shipments available, more companies are selling to larger companies thereby moving under deeply discounted rates and by the way the 3rd party logistics companies are drowning the carriers profits. There's just not enough profit in the good freight to carry the badly priced freight. I dont think that Fedex Corporate picked one company over another. The simply looked at their infrastructures and did what made the most sense. And unless you live under a rock a merger was bound to happen one day.. Just came sooner than most expected. If everyone just mans up and remains civil to one another and make the best of an unpopular decision this whole consolidation will be easier. The cards will be dealt in the next week. Make your decision for your family and try not to have hard feelings for whatever decision others make. Many people will be negatively financially impacted and their homelives may be compromised. It will be a tough two weeks while they deal out the new employment to everyone. Stay calm and dont let your emotions get the best of you. There are worse things in life than a job change. Put it all into perspective. Fedex offers us respectable insurance at costs much less than other ltl carriers. We have better vacation and days off than others and we have a small pension to look forward to. If we all TRY to have a positive attitude and put our thoughts upon those losing their job appreciation for a job can return and this will be the best ltl carrier out there to grow and bring back jobs. Just keeping things positive!

What exactly do you expect anyone to do? Have a new Revolution against this outrageous tyranny?
Hell ,most people don't even know that that is what is truly going on here. And unlike the founders ,each man is on his own, in this new world order we have. We will hang as individuals, not a unified group.
Kneel down to your new masters and kiss their feet. This goes way past losing a job, WD.
We will no longer be a free nation if this treason is allowed to continue much longer. May God help us all.

Rush has been pushing that term into the deep corners of foolish braindead working man followers for 20 years....'rugged individualis"......the northern states knew the slavery that that concept was heading to..but hopefully it's not too late...I think it may be...soon they will be saying "It's ok to hit me on my bakc with the whip Massa....as long as the company turns a profit and i still make 20 dollars/ in 24 hours.
the 1700 nat people losing their jobs you speak of are management at duplicate centers. My understanding is that in most of these situations they took freight over nat management because of Lakeland managements resistence to do things as they were told. They had become an albatross and were sinking both companies. As usual middle managers and producing employees take the hit. We are projected to lose over 100 drivers and other employees between the 2 companies in the Mem area. I just hope most land on their feet. Companies have to make tough decisions like this from time to time. I myself am not crazy about it, but have to hope that it works out in the long run.
Yeah over 500 people in Lakeland, FL are losing their job but almost all of them are not drivers but I feel for them more because it is easier to find a job driving a truck. If you are a Manager, Supervisor, or even a Dispatcher imagine how hard it is going to be on them in this economy. I have been driving since 1995 and I have had a lot of jobs this being the best by far no matter how bad you think this company is it is the best truck driving company out there. If you don't think it is go somewhere else and we will see you back in a year or two trying to get back on.
Apparently that idea never really took hold in HRO.While Garrison
is always acutely aware of what is happening
in his organization, he does not
interfere with employees’ job performance.
His philosophy is simple: “Leave
people alone to do what they are hired
to do.” That’s especially true in the
transportation business, he notes, offering
this advice to new leaders: “People
in trucking like freedom and dislike
being overly supervised. Train people,
then let them succeed.”
