Welcome OVERDOSE. Just depends on what you read on these threads. Slower in most places but the Estes die-hards and management on these threads want you to believe everything is ok or you should just quit instead of vent your concerns.

Anyway, in the vast majority of the market, you're right about the others booming and we are lagging. They'll blame it on GI or bad drivers or, or, or. You get the picture.

Maybe he'll move the company to China so he can get .47 PER HOUR or PER DAY labor. It seems to be too much for them to pay you for the time you put in.

More and more line-hauls are waiting with no pay, coming to work and told to wait with no pay. Why not call us at home and tell us load will be late? Guess that would mean organization in Richmond to know what's going on out in the field.

Freight levels are low @ Estes due to the company not lowering rates. Estes raised rates at the first of the year 5.5%, Companies like Conway are hauling freight at a much lower rate just to get business, after you figure operating costs a huge company will have to compensate for their loses. I am not taking Estes side its just the facts!!

in and around cincinnati most of the truck lines are having heavy off and on surges of freight. This is coming from drivers who have a concern for the overall health of the industry.

In Boise our outbound is about the same if not a little more than always. Our inbound is down. Our number of runs are down. But the number of contract freight is also down (shouldnt it be 0?) coming into our terminal. The number of teams is way up and other terminals extra boards are way up coming into our terminal.
MTHelmet I used to have to wait alot. I talked to my TM and nothing happend so I contacted Richmond and figured out how to make the run work so I do not sit around waiting. I also know someone who did the same thing and then the run was cut. So make sure your run is safe before doing this.

wow there are some great and thoughtfull responses in this thread from some clear thinking people. i like it :D

same thing here. and yes last time i heard the contracters should be running our frieght at all :D but we all know different. here we has had a few cut runs different days of the week but we are dealing with it, some of us let guys that got cut 1 day take someone elses run so we all get at least 4 days to work a week instead of 1 guy runin' 2 days a week and the rest runin' 5 or 6 :D. i too have noticed a rather large increase in teams running through my area but so far this week i think i have seen 1, so maybe this week will be different, and just to clarify i am covering for a guy so i am running sun. - thurs. .

great comments keep up the good dissucusion guys

absolutly correct sir!!! i posted this in another thread also :D but i am sure because of my ranting, which i have decided to try and work on and not do so much as it makes my points mute :D, it was probably overlooked :D

!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA !!!!!

10-4. Same here, know someone who has got on the good side of someone in dispatch and he has curtailed the majority of the wait time on HIS run. Good driver, stands by the laws and takes no bull, but never late and never misses work.

Also same thing about ensuring run is safe. Though, in all seriousness, is any run totally safe?

I guess the main gripe with the wait times is that as drivers the demand on us for timely job performance is utmost, but when it comes to the timely job performance of the dock and management to have the freight ready for us, it's just not their highest priority.

If they would just ensure that the "teamwork" of the terminal was universal and not just the drivers, maybe the wait time would be eliminated.

Failure at the terminal to have freight ready is not the drivers fault. That's why I'm so head-strong about being paid from the time you arrive to perform your duties. If dispatch hasn't got the brains to call you off or at least let you know of a delay before you leave home, why should you be penalized for terminal failure.

Anyway, EVERYONE BE SAFE OUT THERE!

Was there not just a class action suit against another company for forced delay with no pay? Just something I heard on the squack box.

And to stay on topic freight will pick up when it gets to the customer on time and undamaged. I know line drivers have the least effect on damage and the most effect on time. And I would say our line is pretty good in our department, if we could see changes with dock and p&d our company would be tops.

wait times have gotten MUCH better, if you have a run where you run next day service freight. now all of a sudden they care. its because they want 98% service on next day, most likely guaranteed. so starting soon, magically, you will be getting out on time.

soon the one thing everybody agreed was messed up will be fixed. not beause of your complaints though

Con way is NOT hauling freight at a lower rate than BIG E. Con way is probably the most expensive carrier out there. They had a rate increase at about 5% back in march. I do not know who is the cheapest but get your facts in order before you start saying what other companies hauling freight for.
I have worked for estes and con way and I know for a FACT who costs more. The problem with E is that they took on too much to fast. They should have left GI to be GI and honored the contracts. That move surprised me because it took E FOREVER to make a decision on anything including new accounts. By the time they got the accounts they would either lose it because your central dispatch could not move the freight, the russians would be 2 days late getting the freight to the terminal it needed to get to or your fine dock workers would destroy it. Most of the good accounts Big E would lose was due to service failures or damages.
If Estes west does what I think they are going to do in time it will be much deserved.

Anyways I am done :soapbox: Thanks for reading.

Well I know for a fact that Conway has lowered rates because a saleman of Conway told me. I was once an employee of that outfit and he and I still talk. ICP is low @ Conway because they have plenty of business and NOT enough revenue!!!!

UH HUH right. They are not called salesmen at con way for one. And that is not the whole story why icp was low. Last year sucked for every carrier and if you were paying attention you might know that.

Anyways you have your opinions and I have the facts. Good luck.

conway

the facts are conway did lower their rates, as giving out more and higher fak's what you call hauling class 250 freight as class 85 freight. you may say they didnt lower rates, cause in reality all carriers raise rates every year but they will haul the freight for less with a fak, if you know anything about pricing you know what im talking about, conway lost 25% of its freight over the last 2 years from being too high, now they are handing out fak's like crazy to get that freight back. look how much walmart they haul at a losing rate. they say but we will get other accounts because we haul walmart. there is more to pricing than rates.
