XPO | Cfi And Conway

:hide: If the CFI drivrs haul the freight, we are screwed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All kidding aside, CFI, Conway truckload, and a host of others already haul a lot of the freight. Mostly to the west coast and Utah, Idaho, and Colorado. I don't think it will change much of the current operations. At least not where I am located.

maybe cfi will be our fedex national. the reason they need doubles is so they can run around pulling 2 pups and some of there longboxes will go into our PandD operations. Very, very possible.

I see alot of OTR trucks pulling doubles for UPS Freight and FedEx National.
These guys might be new to it all but they need to slow down a bit, they seem to run wide open and just fly.
I can see Con-way turning down their CFI units.

Oh yah......It's called Haz-Mat not Hazmatt !:chairshot:

they would never take over linehaul period...who would work the glorious dock in the middle of the night ?? i think all they will do is take the long hauls to make if more efficent and less expensive...it will be good for the company..rehandling frieght is expensive and takes time.. hopefully the third times the charm !!!

God I hope not. I have been stuck behind one the last two trips down US35 in WV. 45 mph for 35 miles gets old in a hurry.
I used to run with a CB on channel 19. I've driven the Con-way trucks that were tweaked down to save gas and prevent overspeeding conditions and I'll tell you, I was embarrassed as heck. I could pretty much get out and run faster. Some units needed the 4-ways on while climbing a hill, just to prevent a rear end collision.
With all the complaints I got on the CB regarding my hill holding capability, I just turned it off. I get enough slack at home.

I bet CFI units will be capped off around 68 MPH and not the Con-way 65MPH. (Correct me if I'm wrong Con-way drivers)

I agree and also think CFI will be snagging the longer hauls to better service the customer needs.
Con-way does not do layovers, CFI does.
Con-way has greater potential to run empty miles back, CFI doesn't have as much risk. I think we all know where the cost savings can be made.

Is this why some meet and turns are slowly disappearing?

Perhaps it's not that they are not busy, indicated by trucks sitting and trialers itting in yards. That, to me, indicates a lack of drivers to run the equipment. When you have no drivers to turn the miles on the highway the equipment sits in the yard longer etc etc.

Eventually I see CFI handling the 2 day. Example, I know some guys at a barn that handle Xmp to Xlf and Xpb. They say that creates 8 daytime and night linehaul runs. Put it all on CFI and save all that labor and make a $ 1.00 a pound. You do the math. Originally it was done by subservice but they were always late. XSB to the east. Alot of runs will be eliminated between Xsb Xlf . Eliminating runs is what Con-way is all about. How often do they do that on linehaul? ALOT of drivers are nervous about loosing their jobs becouse of CFI.

That's the downside to the acquisition. No one wants to be bumped out their day to day duties. From G.O to the drivers, people are going to have to get reclassified into another Con-way category. In most cases, it's better than a layoff.
A team player will look at this as Con-ways way to be more competetive and possibly secure their future as well as the employees.
A disgruntled team player will look at this as another kick in the booty. Again, it hurts to be the one to get the short end of the stick, but suck it up soldier and move on. (I have my flame suit on)

IMO- The CFI purchase will help with the imbalance of loads (layover driver) and because of the high cost of diesel?...the running of empty miles.(need to be home next morning driver)
If runs are eliminated, it's because con-way sees a big cost savings in this. It's the nature of the beast on the corporate level.

Con-way and CFI are married, you guys are now step brothers and step sisters. :kiss2: :console:
Please buckle up them boot straps and prepare for a wild ride....Again....it's better than a layoff.
