Lately from what I hear. We've been really short on dolly's to hook sets. The guys are taking them right from broken sets and using them for outbound sets, tires still warm. I heard something about a certain series of them having some sort of defect. All i know is it has everyone ( management and hostlers) in a frenzy.

Seems like you may have just been hit for the first time, but believe it or not we have that happen time to time. Just depends on the freight levels and dispatch happening at the time. Usually, and I say Usually not always, a friendly call to dispatch will get a few extra sent to you somehow. When I ran NV a few times, they actually tagged an extra behind a set to get more down the road.

If it lasts a few more days, the TM needs to make some calls. We used to tell dispatch, well up to a few years ago anyway dispatch could take care of it.

No i know for a fact that this isn't the first time we've come up short on equipment. When it's busy its a fairly common occurance. I know for the last 2 weeks its been the same story. No dolly's to be had. All summer its the same story no pups and no dolly's. Apparently there's upwards of 30 dolly's sitting deadlined bc of this defect and that either Holland or great dane can't figure out who's going to either fix them or pay for the repairs. It's something with the welds, that can actually be easily fixed by the shop guys, but they've been told they aren't allowed and if they're caught they will be terminated. So the dolly situation at least @ 024 isn't going to get any better anytime soon. Unless they get the idea that somewhere there must be some dolly's just sitting there they can load into an empty van and send our way. Then again that wouldn't make much sense to run a trailer with dolly's in it when you could just send it empty. Everyday it becomes more apparent to me that we're working for idiots.

I probably misunderstood the jest of your post. Anyway, if the problem is common among a certain manufacture defect, Estes should get on the stick and require the manufacturer to either pay a national (TA, International, etc) outfit to fix them or to certify the mechanics. That's usually the quick remedy while they continue to bicker about who is going to ultimately be responsible for the charges.

But, it is Richmond, so who knows. They should just fix them in the mean time to get them rolling and not to interrupt service.

But then again, that makes sense, so let's see.

Yea that makes a lot of sense, and we both know who we're talking about. Doing things that make sense isn't what's done in Richmond. They don't care about guy's waiting for hours on end for their set, so they wont alleviate the situation.

Oh we've got the freight here, we just have nothing to move it with. Talked to a buddy of mine, we're out of van's, we have 10 dolly's and 7 empty pups where they're spotted. So, i guess we're back to having to wait for strips to get done to have empty's to load into. What an amazing system we run.

Cram it,stuff it,jam it,push it,shovel it,,thats the estes way. Remember the good ole days with the bulkhead bars to stack freight? Whatever happened to that? 135 says "we load everything high and tight". This really satisfies the customer, with crushed merchandise. As far as dollies, we've got about 15 out there thats been needing repair for about 3 weeks now. Keep on trukin' Estes!:smilie_132:
