Yellow | Laying Off From the Top First?

Sorry for the double post, I couldn't delete the first one in time. I didn't use
proper english in one sentence. Now I'm really back to non posting mode

Hey Barney I was at a complete loss as to the response to your question too. Right now I'm thinking Bufbil and lowmans post are misplaced from another thread, that would explain it a little. Post away Brother I understood the question and your right there are times people would jump at the chance for volintary for lots of different reasons. :1036316054:

All you have in the Union is seniority---- ask anyone who has been in the Union for a long time---only way to go is bottom up

True. Another thing is that to have insurance you have to work 2 days per week or be available all week. Why would a senior worker want to be without insurance?

I have no problem taking off once a week to spread the work.....just ask anybody who knows me.....but I wouldn't want to pay COBRA and I doubt many would.

Senority, thats right, so why not have one more opertunity to use it. (SENORITY) The spouse just might have a Good / Better job with all the perks & they may opt to take advantage of layoff (Just an Option) Take a winter vacation, at the same time letting the Bottom employee stay working, family ins. etc. Now this is just my opinion, i see nothing wrong with "asking" Top Down. No takers then Bottom Up. Mustache Retired Roadway:smilie_132:

I always seen it as a chance to get time off without burning my vacation time. :woohoo1: Felt fortunate to have enough senority to get the voluntary! I just never thought that there would be a debate on this. Go figure.

I'm not against it I just don't see it happening on a large scale at any time. If a guy had a wife with good insurance that might be a different story.

It's not everyone, but sometimes we get sick and tired of the grind and if a person with seniority knows that company has no problem who they lay off and can live on unemployment it could be right fit for some.

tks to bufbill

u r only 1 onpage 1 that talks the truth. if the bushies had their way there wud be no unions, no 40 hr week, no overtime & no represention. no republican will help a working man. tks bufbill

Some of the responses of this thread are exactly why I don't post much here. Somebody could say the sun rises in the east and sets in the west and it would still get someone's shorts in a bunch. Plus blame it all on politics.

I know-- I've always got the same problem.

Without reading all the responses, I can answer it with one word. Contract. Our Central States Contract says lay-offs start at the bottom. I don't know about yours. Want it different-- get the contract changed.
