XPO | How long until conway closes up???

I am a line driver, I will sleep as God intended all line drivers to sleep, on the road, behind the wheel of a big-rig diesel. Mash yur motor, hammer down, boogy, boogy.......

Yeah, I know what you mean. I get my 4 hrs of sleep at home and the other 4, I get at lunch.

I am from the future....The date I live in is 1-22-2012. Con-way still thrives and is a 5 BiBiBillion dollar company. They have not givin there work force a raise in four years. They use handheld computers on the dock and a rail/rack system in the trailers....damage to freight has almost been erradicated. Still no raise! Thay also use a permanent dock work force to supplement the drivers on the FACs....that way during seasonal slow downs the dock worker gets their 8 hrs, while the low senority DSRs work 6 hrs. And still no raise!

No... Con-way has not shut their doors...they thrive by not reinvesting into their greatest asset....DSRs. They invest in racing cars...technology...hardware...low wage employees...contract carriers. They have forgotten about the one element that has brought them to where they are....the DSR! The one who picks up freight...the one who delivers freight.....the one who moves freight through the day and night...through beautiful sunny mornings and afternoons...sitting in their trucks ever vigiliant of the elusive ACCIDENT!!! ...through the coldest winter night...ice misting on the mirror brackets..snow blowing across the highway.....the tire slip light blinking off and on.....gripping the steering wheel as tightly as possible while thinking of the next time he can hold his grandchildren, daughter and wife. Its is for this reason he is here. To give a fine and comfortable life for his family...a home to be proud of...and to build a retirement made of dreams......and still the DSR waits......for encouragement...a thank you....a raise!!!! Something that will let him know that the company....a GREAT company called Con-way!!!....appreciattes the hard work...the long hours...the lack of sleep....the patiences he has shown for the last couple of years......in this DSRs dream...Con-way will once again come to the dedicated driving force....and reinvest in the driver...showing him that his dedication has not been in vain.

Of course I write this with a tongue-in-cheek attitude. I love my Con-way job!!! A police escort will have to be there to remove me from this special job we have. But, I've tried to be truthful and honest...and maybe a little ignorant....

A forever Optimistic DSR

When do you think conway will go out of business. I predict in less than 2 years our door will be closed.

I really don't understand your line of thinking??? I'm a coward?!?! I'm asking why...after all these years...after all this training...and everything else drivers endure to make a living with this awesome company...have we not got a RAISE. I tried to make it a little melodramatic story...maybe to entertain....maybe to enlighten...maybe just to vent.

I'm really curious though...Whats got you so upset?

Naw...don't tell me...I could care less. If you didn't get the humor or even the realness of the statement, then you've got some issues of your own to deal with. I've lost alot of ground with this job because of the recession and cut backs...and I'm making the best of it...always looking for the positive.

This thread was started back right before the bottom dropped out on the economy...I was having a little scifi fun....oh ye of little imagination!

Currently this company is staying afloat satisfying the the business models of other companies. Without con-way where would spherion and crst and swift be right now ?

Con-way is all about saving america and saving american jobs. Just look how many jobs would have been lost !

Now that is how you do tongue in cheek.

Yeah, all the money they save shipping our jobs overseas goes in their pocket as a bonus. They don't give a damm about anybodys job but their own.

I'm trying to figure out if you two are responding to a tongue in cheek post with tongue in cheek posts of your own, or if you're both serious.

if you think conway will close, then your ignorant of the competitions issues. conway will be around for a long long time.

Average life expectancy of a LTL business is around 5-10 years. How long has con-way been going ? Ugh. Right.

No tongue in cheek here, I was referring to the fact that we support American jobs at other carriers in sub-service. Goody for us! I don't believe Con-way will ever close, at least not in the near term, but it has definitely gotten ahead in this business on the backs of the DSRs. They thank and thank and thank us, but not in a way that counts. More money and more runs would be a good way to start.

anyone know why st.louis terminal had yard all taped off and the media was there with news vans?? not a conway driver..just seen it on my way home this mornin
