TForce | Question For UPS Freight Guys

I keep hearing all this talk about each terminal doing their own contract,,were did you guys get this from ..I was told straight Jimmy H and Ken H that you are signing cards to get the same contract we have in Indy. I think you are setting your self for a let down if you think UPS is gonna talk a contract for every terminal it's not gonna happen. Don't be fooled by your local if they tell you this. Thats what they want you to beleive..

I would hope that everyone understands as stated right from the beginning, The Indy contract will serve as a model for the REST of the company. What people don't understand is that there can be some changes made to the model contract. These changes are called supplements.:1036316054:

I'm hearing the whole west coast is signing cards like there's no tomorrow. I think I am starting to learn toward signing. I don't understand why Sacramento doesn't have the cards yet. CFer in your new contract do you have to pay any of your medical like we are?

I'll answer for him, no we don't have to pay anything for health insurance

Skeeter, it's tough to compare your medical to ours because it's apples and oranges.

I do not have to pay for my medical coverage but my insurance is provided by the union where yours is provided by the company. In NMFA negotiations the union and the companies negotiate how much money will put towards benefits. The union then decides how much will go towards health and how much will go towards pension. After that is done, they figure out what kind of coverage they can provide us. Based on how our system works I think we would see reduced benefits before ever having to actually pay part of our insurance.

What you have stated is what we are going for in new england!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We do not understand why this cannot happen.

Wish I could tell you something to help but I don't know a whole lot about your current negotiations.

Good Luck

I think, but I could be wrong, is INDY, was in central states, that pention fund was just bought out, of coarse, so I think they inturn decided it would be best to have the bennies managed by UPS as well.

Again I could be wrong, but it sounds good.

I didn't go through all the pages, but is the indy contract available online?

Yes, But you won't get all of it in its entirety. Like the medical part of it is not there. The reason I was told its not there is because the medical part of it pertains to Indy only.

I wish the NMFA had that. Thats the first language of any kind relating to a 40 hour guarantee that I've ever seen.

Actually, Parcel has had that for quite a while. Plus, if you are put to work on any given day, you are guaranteed 8 hours.

Just so everyone understands. Language in a supplement will always supersede language in the national.

Unless there is language in the national that specifically says it supersedes the supplement or Local Rider. Parcel has a lot of that now.

We have nothing in relation to superseding language at this point, but could be in our's, again it's work in progress.

NMFA has the 8 hour guarantee per day but we do not have a 40 hour guarantee for the week.
Honestly, I never thought I would see language guaranteeing 40 hours per week. Not in freight. I'm very impressed by that language.

Interesting Mike, I'm almost positive that regional language always supersedes national in the NMFA.(someone please correct me if I am wrong)
Sound like parcel has just the opposite.

You learn something new every day.

I would think that if you negotiate language that is better than what Indy got you would need some language like that to enforce whats been negotiated in the supplement.

The Card

ONCE YOU SIGN THE CARD BELIEVE IT OR NOT YOU ARE IN...NOT LIKE B-4...SIGN AND YOU ARE IN.....JUST ASK...............THEN THEY WILL TELL U WHAT U HAVE FOR THE NEXT 5 YEARS.L:hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:IKE IT OR NOT...

Well again it is work in progress, but thus far we have seen nor heard anything as such, but it is just the beginning.

Usually the suppliment does override the master, only if it pertains to region, ignorence prevails, we shall see.

noone has posted where this "master contract" and adding suppliments came from.

This is not the NMFA or the parcel contract, where both of those have masters and suppliments. The only thing I and others can find is that the teamsters said they are going to negoitiate terminal by terminal.

It makes sense and would be faster if they did regions or a master. But where has this been said officially?

I personally spoke with Andy M. who is the Wester Regional Director for the IBT out of Phoenix. Evidentally, the Indy contract IS what we all will be offered. There are only 2 exceptions.........1) Medical plans very from region to region so it will be mixed around the sytem. 2) Work rules will be negotiated local by local. Any other talk of all these supplementals and each terminal changing the contract themselves is PURE NONSENSE. I know this won't be a popular awakening for some of you but it came from the horses mouth. I called Andy directly to see why our local wasn't speaking with us yet even though it's prime time. Through our conversation, those are the FACTS I was given. Take the information in the spirit in which it's being passed on.

Thanks BMF. Now if only the masses who get on the boards take the time to read your post, they can move onto things that really matter.....the suppliments, work rules and H&W. For the most part, the UPSF Nat'l is ok, it just has to be tweaked here and there to our liking. Thats what we hope to accomplish in our regional negotiations.
