ABF | Will the Rebate checks stimulate the economy.

IMHO most people will either to choose to pay down debt (credit cards) or throw it into savings. We are going to put ours into a mutual fund.

There will be a surge to an extent. Not sure how much it will help LTL, but I can see parcel getting a decent bump for a few months. Kind of an early Christmas in June. A lot of folks will be standing by the mailbox with their hand out foaming at the mouth to spend it asap. Some will use it to pay down holiday bills or catch up on mortgage payments. The rest of them will just buy gas for the car or take the kids to six flags for the weekend. There's several problems holding things down. It starts with $3+/gallon gas and utility bills up 30-60% in the past 5 years just to name a couple. The general population is simply tapped out. Credit will only cover so much till it goes no more. Big business must get back on it's feet before LTL is going to see a major benefit. I'll gladly take my $$ when it comes, but I see it as a very temporary "shot in the arm".

I think we will use that money and get 2 tickets to somewhere, most likely out of the country to some place warm and where they serve rum and cokes all day long. Oh well, the airlines can use the money I guess.
 
Me, I'm gonna give mine to my town by way of giving it to my neighbor who hopes to raising $30k to fix-up this little, long-neglected playground near our house. The town hasn't done SQUAT in years and a bunch of us decided we're gonna purdy-up things ourselves!
I can't see saving it as I don't think that's what it was intended for. I sure as heck would NOT buy anything made in China with it so we got to talking and decided to do the playgrund thing. I got the idea, actually, from a town in VT who is trying to do something similar with the windfall. Doing the playground thing seem to be the right thing-for me, anyway...

Middle class people will either save the money or put it on bills, all the people who dont work and get food stamps and all that other crap, will blow there checks.
