Am I correct in assuming that with the 5% being returned quarterly in 2011 to those who were here to lose it,that new hires still wont have an increase in the near future?

i dont know that answer but im guessing new hires were hired at 5% less then they would of been hired at so they should be entitled to the 5% giveback to get back to the original starting wage .. thats my guess .

dont count on getting that 5% back next year,remember they said in the video if they only make a profit. first quater of the year they never do. also this new guy on the board who just started in an account to,he can hide any profit very easy. i dont believe anything this company tells you.what about the 401k and profit sharing?

didnt he say on video the us ltl was losing money and needs to step up to the plate. funny last quater the ltl made 3.9 million.

i dont think they do, they havent put in the time.
what exacly would be enough time?a lot of these people have gone the same amount of time without raises,they probably dont need one more reason to look for another job as vitran provides several reasons the day you start working here.

they sure do lie to new hires. they think they are going to get whats in the newspapers ads and after they are hired they find out different.most dont relize you cant sue for false advertising,but who has the money to do that.

Vijax= union organizer

not a big fan of unions, but tired or getting dumped on and lied to. i just want what i was told when i was hired. how long have you been with the company scotty425?

Vitran is definitely doing all the right things to having their employees wanting to organize,but I don't think you have seen deception or lies until you vote it in.Ask a yrc employee what the union has done for them lately.I bet they will tell you they just want they were told when they were hired. Try pooring decades of your own money into dues and pension only to find it trimmed when its time to use it . My job sucks a lot of the time too, but there aren't a lot of options out there,I don't think union is the answer. However,this is America and you are still entitled to your opinion.

german, i think alot of companies theses days are just so mismanaged.people are given upper positions by whom they know or brown nose and not by being qualified for that job. more work is being done by the employees that is managements job. there are no checks or balances here. no one but a few care. we havent seen a corporate person at our terminal in over 8 years. how can you run a company and never visited your terminals.? there are no rules until you screw up and suddenly they want you to sign a paper saying there is. all copmpanies have problems but this one thats the cake. so ill keep looking hoping the economy turns around soon and i can find something else.this place will never change even in a good economy.

agreed they aren't showing signs of improvement in the management category, the communication is terrible most of the time and so on so forth.It comes back to how much can you personally tolerate and for how long? I think most of us are looking, but be careful you don't find something that looks better but is really worse! Happy hunting

Newbe

Hi guys I have a question, I started at the Appleton terminal that was just reopened. I did food delivery (Reinhart) for 7 years then left to get into LTL freight. I was laid off from Conway and R&L Carriers, there were a lot of lies at those companies too. Not to mention Conway is run like a boot camp. My question to you guys is it really that bad? I start tonight. My assigned line-haul run will get me home nightly and is 604 miles. I had a interview at Lipari foods last week for a line-haul run starting at $1,100 a week Sun-Thur. Just wondering if I should stay put or jump ship, I don't read a lot of positive stuff about Vitran, makes me wonder what I'm getting into.

Newbe, it depends on where you are as to how bad your job is here.It sounds like you could make the same money at your food place as here based on vitran's starting mileage pay.I don't know how often that place is giving wage increases, but based on the video that started this thread you won't be getting normal raises here on a regular basis. You may want to consider that .Otherwise most of us that are whining and complaining(myself included) about our jobs are doing so because we have had a lot of what we have worked for here taken away from us. However, we are still here because the truth is this job is still better than a lot of trucking jobs out there or we would have left.

German, I understand 100% it stinks when you bust your butt and the economy is always the excuse for taking away from drivers. I must say after talking with the Tomah TM it sounds like a joke tonight he doesn't know what my normal run will be or what truck I'll be using. I went over to the Appleton yard and the trucks are junk. Dirty and beat to crap, I honestly feel like taking the food job and saying sorry I won't be there tonight. He might get mad but it seems I'm going to get srcrewed, we already had a guy start last week before me and he walked. McLane foods just offered me a job this morning, starting 60k with raises. Let me know your opinion please, I would have to comute a hour until I could move closer but it might be worth it.

Brady is a straight shooter,I would take him at his word when he said he wasn't sure what you would be doing. Honestly,I was surprised when you said you had a 600 mile linehaul run,as a newhire this would be close to impossible to obtain unless it was a lay-down or starting up a brand new terminal like you said with appleton.I've seen McLane drivers in action looks like they earn there money, what I would do is work here a few nights but go talk to your other place tell them you are interested.This will give you a chance to see what Vitran is all about and help you make a good decision.

Good advice ty, I am in the first group of people hired to reopen the Appleton terminal. For now we have to call Milwaukee to find out our start times. Tomah TM Niles said I would be running the swap out to Remmington,IN until further notice. They already filled the over night line hauls in Appleton. As a typical new hire I get nervous because reading about the wage freeze. My worry is I don't want to be stuck making .38 for 5 years. Any idea if that will get lifted? Any input would be greatly appreciated, I must say during my interview Niles was a straight shooter and was up front about all the issues Vitran is facing and they are trying to rebuild.
