I am a second generation teamster. I started my freight career when I was 20 working the dock and P.I.E (it is a cwx barn now). When they folded I went to C.F. I hated Con-Way for years for all the money that went that way from C.F.(Not looking to debate that just making a point.)I would be in my 156-3466 which was a Ford 7000 with no power steering and a black vinal seat in california in the summer time and it never failed a Con-Way driver would back in next to me with his windows up and his hair blowing in the AC:smilie_132:. When C.F. folded I moved to a different state and tried for a year to get another union job with in 100 miles of where I live with no luck. I finally applied at Con-Way and they hired me. I still hated it. As I was working there for the first couple years I kept telling myself it was just temporary until I found something else. I did too. I found several other jobs including 2 teamster jobs that I ended up passing on. Both of which I would be laid off from right now instead of making my 50k in the city and sleeping in my bed every night. I am not happy with the things that have dissapeared from my benifit package at Con-Way but they are still not to bad. In fact the 401k has grown on me to the point that I like it better than the pension they took away. 200 something a week from the company is pretty good. I think that the pension contribution for teamsters is only 300 something and that is if they make it all the way to collect. I am worried about Yellow, I read their board and it sounds like a song i have heard before. My biggest fear is that if Yellow bellies up that the teamsters will be so weak then that we will lose more bennies. In the mean time though I have a job that pays good, it still has decent benifites and a really good 401k that I can take with me if something happens instead of getting a fraction of a pension if I did not have my 30 years in, I have a nice route with a decent 04 truck with ps and ac!The bottom line is I am thankful that I work at Con-Way and I like it now and if you would have told me that I would fell this way a couple years ago I would have laughed in your face.

That song and dance

That song and dance you spoke of is going to happen here. It is happening as you read this post. Yes CON-way was a good company, but what they have in store for the employees is not going to be good. Can you say cf. I will post a thread soon and you can read all about it. I don`t ask for you to believe me, just go back and read all my posts and the other post that are in the archives here.

This is a nail biter! I can't wait to read it!:1036316054:

I should learn to bite my nails.

Every time I hold my breath, I pass out.

I like the company for the constant paycheck I bring home! For how long only the crystal ball knows for sure, but I don`t worry, the industry will always need truck drivers! :1036316054:

Sorry to say, it will have to wait till I get back from my runs this week. Have to get my proper rest. Headed to Canada.

10-4 on the proper rest!
Canada? Sounds like a nice drive.
Drive safe and we will still be pacing the boards and biting our nails in anticipation of your next return.:1036316054::smilie_132:

And so, according to you, the world as we know it is coming to an end.......again!! Thanks for the heads up, oh great one, I'll keep an eye out for impending dark clouds.:hide::Zzzz:

I started a thread here a few days ago ranting about Con Way. Mostly stuff that peeves me, things that no matter what large corp you work for, they are similar. That being said, I do not like the thought that with restructuring my job might be on the line. I do like working here, I like the my P&D bid, the hourly rate ( which you would be hard pressed to find elsewhere). I do not like the thought of EVER having to go OTR again, I have 2 small children I love spending all me free time with. These are good enough reasons for me to like Con Way as a WORKPLACE, not a lifestyle. I might rant, but its just the cynic in me watching the foolishness of all the Con Way cheerleading....
