We really cannot pass too harsh of judgment on John L yet i dont think...he is still picking up the reigns from when Dave Mc :last got canned...

Dave M (the tub 'o lard) is a different story though..

As I recall...the draft ended in the mid '70's...so as for the military taking any of your rights away...they did not. And even with the draft there was only a 6 year obligation I believe it was...and you did 10... You gave them to them...comparing the military to conway is like comparing apples to china...

your right. the military gives free health and prescriptions, free dental, discounts ( no tax ) at the grocery store (commissary) and base exchange ( bx), hazardous pay, retirement after 20 :USA:years, yearly cost of living raises, and respectable uniforms. I'm sure there is more differences but you get the idea.:USA:

Another interesting difference..they have leadership schools...and they are required attendance...oh and you can go into your superiors office with a beef (for the most part) and come out with it solved...and one of the biggest differences...if you do not know where you stand...you can read to see exactly where you stand, what you obligations and responsibilities are and so on...yes i do miss the structuring of the military very much...

This happens when companys lose all respect for there employees, were nothing but a bunch of whores who brought this on our selves, we take advantage of all the sacrifices our Union brothers and sisters have made in the past as long as we get somewhere close to what they get we could care less.
 
There is nothing wrong with conway, they are a typical nonunion company that plans on staying that way at all cost, anytime a blue collar worker hears the term team anything he she better be on guard

Well, DUH, are you saying CON-WAY is the SAME company as CONSOLIDATED FREIGHTWAYS?
And that no one bought one company and renamed it?
Please, shed some light on this, willya?
 
from the beginning this company has thrived on crawdad tatics.put crawdads in a bucket.they will climb on each other till they reach the top.once the next crawdad reaches the top to get out,the ones underneath pull'em down.it felt sooo good to say CF screwed up this and that and look how great we are compared to CF.CF went bye,bye and now we have become the new dogs to whip.i can hear it now.cfi guys are a great asset,they sleep in the truck right in yard waitin for work.not like conway drivers wanting to go home.conway drivers dont know how good they got it.it's just repeating itself.cnf pits man against man and they love it.

Ask the guy on stop loss doing his 3rd or 4th go around in Iraq how good a deal it its.

The guys across the street working for a PMC are making 4-6Xs as much $ for doing the same work and can go home whenever they want to.
 
How we got here

In reading some of the replies I can agree with some but not all.

I think that the guys at the top are seasoned freight operators that saw something we didn't. In todays market place they have the vision to take us to the next level and hopefully beyond.

It's either sink, swim or get swallowed up by UPS or Fedex, the new big boys in the freight game.

the one common denominator is that they both volunteered

We wern't bought or sold but....

Our CCX website used to say that we started in 1983. Our new Conway Freight website sez we started in 1929.

It's A Miracle!!!

We evolved out of CF...we became our own seperate entity in 1983 I believe it was...we then completely broke ties with CF in I think it was 1996. CTS sent CF off debt free at that time and they later went out...but we have never been bought or sold.

That is interesting how they are able to do that...technically we were part of Leland J. bigs dream only to the extent we evolved from there...look at RoadSystems Trailers..originally they were but a contracted firm for trailers, dollys and repairs...now we absorbed them...20 years from now as an example...if they continue business and conway follows CF's footsteps to history..they too will be able to say they started in 1929...same with Menlo as well...
