XPO | How did we get this way?

I do believe I figured out how we got the way we are now. As identified in my Cutting Through The Layers thread...

Current management every since Dick P. took the happy trails route (retired) and Dave Mc :last took over we started the change. I thought this change was swapping over the ole family value type business to the brutal corporate america scenario...which I still believe holds some cause as well...the biggest change was that Dave Mc :last didnt turn his back on "his" baby...Dick P. was the starter...so if the company failed or whatever detrimental problems came its way...no big deal as it isnt Dave Mc :last personal project like it was Dick P's...

Ok. U-R Correct

We evolved out of CF...we became our own seperate entity in 1983 I believe it was...we then completely broke ties with CF in I think it was 1996. CTS sent CF off debt free at that time and they later went out...but we have never been bought or sold.

Ok. Guess I'm schooled!
I couldn't find anythink indicating a sale, just mergers and such...
God, I hate it when I'm corrected! I take back half of what I said! :hide:

It's amasing how a company can go downhill when you don't have a parent company paying all expenses except wages ie: fuel ,taxes, purchasing equiptment and so forth

Hope this makes you feel better, but there have been rumors over the years that ConWay was going to be bought out :1036316054:

I've said it before, This company will probably be acquired within a few years. They are very profitable (right now) and are very established in the market place. UPS looked at Conway before O but, it was too expensive (too bad for us).

Non substantiated rumors at best..everytime someone sees something which could be questionable they automatically think sale is in the works and start a rumor. As is told over and over...rumors are a face value issue...as long as conway appears to be profitable, we will never sell I do not believe. Our daily reports on costs vs labor, the tracking of efficiency, etc kind of points to a group of retards who want to keep their positions in the upper management. Just my little opinion which with $3.28 you can buy a gallon of gasoline...

I believe part of the driver for the stock buy back was to strengthen our sustainability.

you make a very good point, as long as we stay profitable, nobody would want to give up their stock. But, being a public company, somebody could offer an amount that is greater than the asking price and.....you never know.

I dont believe there is now, nor has there ever been an asking price??? Anyone know of any offerings to sell? Or solicitations to sell? Anyone see anything in the SEC filings?

current stock price

When I say the "asking price", I'm referring to the current price of the stock.

How did we get this way?
Look in the mirror. I did. we (drivers) did it to ourselves. Driving thru our breaks, hurrying to the reship, following the herd. we took their crap for so long and put up with their garbage.. SAD but its too late to get OUR company back.

I admit that I am guilty. I really thought this company was what it said it was and I was going to do my part plus to help it succeed. - No longer!

Excellent post.

Bankrupt, I still will do my part and go the extra mile. But not for them , for me. When I was a kid and did something silly or stupid, my mom would say " You are as bad as your dad" or You are just like your father" Back then I would say " No way Mom, I am not like him , he is old and mean" Well I look back( Yes he is stll with us) but I am PROUD to be like Dad I have ( I think) A wonderful work ethic) and Think it is an honor to be like Dad. That being said I leave the FAC knowing I gave 100% for a days Pay. Many more of us should try this. Yes my uniforms are dirty and hands calloused and chapped, But hey so were Dads hands !!!

I can appreciate that as I am confidant in your understanding my point of view.

If someone offers you A, B, and C as compensation for tasks performed and both parties find this arrangement fair and equitable, then everything is whole. If this someone then removes item C from his compensation, I don't feel a need to perform our previously agreed upon tasks to the level or as well as before. What was thought by both parties before as fair and equitable no longer is. I didn't make this adjustment - they did.

I can see your point..but have to disagree...though important observations, i believe those to be accomondating...meaning they are adjustment issues on our parts...we as a (insert corporate word of the year 2006 here) "culture" have to adapt to what they (management) send our way...that would seem to be an evolutionary product...what they send...we adapt with time...now i am speaking on my own observations and experiences from what i have encountered out of my barn and others around us...

In a sense, you could be on to something though...just like the reverse...we give them an inch and THEY will take a mile type of thing.

I think that is the premise most of us start work here with...then after it gets brutally shoved up and up (there are gentler ways to shove)...there crosses a point of wish to succeed versus wish to see fail...like i always say past and current...i will look just as good in a white, green, red or brown truck that i do in these trucks...

My driver has always given 100% and then some. For the first time in over 30 years I see his spirit getting down. He still gets upset but never have I seen him kinda give up like he has the past couple of years. He's a man that lives for his reputation at work for giving more but this is grinding him down.

Thank you Conway for grining good men into the dust.

You know...I went straight into the military after high school, spent 11 years active duty, exited that for Arizona State government for 6 years, then federal contract for 19 months, then got my CDL...this is my really first "true" non governmental job...I in a million years would never have thought that I would have other then the best of intentions for my employer to suceed...on with the mission at ALL cost was embedded into me...to sit back and look at what I have become, and the causes which have created the new me, is very disappointing for me...i have never ever in my life wanted to see an entity fail in such a bad way as i would like to see conway fail...just so that i know every night those douche--errr hot water bottles (politically correct version) before they go to bed they know deep inside that they failed...each and every night...

I truly feel for those of us whom have come to this level, and i equally feel for those who are not able to realize what has happened to them and their peers (us)...conway is a personal integrity killer...and i like your analogy about being ground down as that is truly what happens...
