ok, latest word is that 135 is capping the board at 104 on the extra board. that puts everyone from may of 04 on down on layoff.

YES THIS WAS WHAT WAS SHOWN AT THE ANNUAL BID. I KNEW THIS BID WAS GOING TO BE THE WORST PEOPLE HAD SEEN IN ALONG TIME. I DON'T THINK IT WILL STOP AT THAT BEFORE IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE THOUGH. I HAVE HEARD THAT THEY DID SCREW UP THOUGH SO KEEP YOUR EARS OPEN. HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH ESL GUYS??????

Layoff at 135

He is right on--count is 46 or 47--I'm one of them close to the bottom of the board and they told me that chances of being called back are slim to none and the only chance I have is to phone bid out on the next change of operations......:hissyfit:

To many beers and to quick to read. Take my humble apology and spare me of my mistake. Did they explain why so many?

It seems that in the Feb. 2007 Roadway change of operations, it was put in there about dock workers/cartage/switchers could train for their CDL withing 60 days of the change, if they were affected. The BA at the union took this, and said, "Yeah, I think we should train them". Then, after they had their CDL, something like 5-8 (no one can give an exact number), came out to the road before classifying for the road.

After this, when I was laid off the first time, I saw a union steward in the grocery store, who was telling me they (dock workers who came out before the april bid), were taking sick leave, esl, fmla, and whatever else they could come up with to get time off. They were under a letter of layoff at the same time as me, because they had to be at the bottom of the road board. Well, they haven't been called back yet, and were still able to reclass and use their seniority even though they were still under a letter of layoff. 21 other dock workers came straight to the road (which the BA for the dock had trained), and 12 from the yard came out. Some went in, but somewhere in the mess, the relay manager said, "104 is the last extra board #, anyone below is laid off".

That leaves us laid off now, and little birdies are saying that anyone below 123 or 130 aren't coming back, and above that is iffy. Another one says 12-13 years seniority will be required to keep your job in 135 when Yellow's done, and yet another says, "We don't know what's going on". I stress these are rumors, but, for what it's worth......

If we get our jobs back after this layoff, I'll be one surprised little union/company pawn.

we just did our annual bidding and they said that past 104 on the driver call board would be laid off. but the yard and dock boards are low 6 on the yard and 35or so on the dock. the people that are getting laid off elected that option at the bid. if it was me i would have taken one of the other boards rather than bid straight into a layoff. there was between 30 to40 people that changed to the road compared to 5 coming off. at least you would work most of the year with so few on the boards. but thats just my opinion. its just a crappy situation for all.

Only problem is this: I was coming home from a long run during my time to bid, so, kinda hard to reclass, even if I knew what was going on. Second, I don't have enough seniority to hold anything, all boards have people laid off.

So, really, I didn't BID into a layoff, I was snowballed in, not being there for the bid because I was out doing the job I was hired to do. Strange thing though, I got screwed for doing my job....How's those apples?

i thoght everyone knew that was how it was at the big r. a good screwing for an honest days work.. i feel your pain been in and out of the same for the last 2.5 years. hopefully the economy will pick up and we can all be hard at it soon. hang in there brother.

i think most of us down on the bottom end of the extra board were out on the road for the bid. oddly enough we seem to work a lot when there is something going on around the house that we need to be there for. after being laid off for that long who can afford to call in sick for something as trivial as a bid. those of us at the bottom are pretty much done for the way it looks, but the rest of you there should watch out, they can keep scaring dock workers into thinking they are gonna get capped, train them for a cdl, and replace you. no more job security.

I Think its inportant to point out that most of the 32 that went to road were not trained. Some of these were drivers at Big R before and had bid in over the last several years and others were hired as Yard men. If my info is right I think 11 were trained dock. The other point That needs to be made is that road men forget the years when 20 to 30 of them have bid in and they bump the guys inside down sometimes causing a layoff. That is seniority in a one line seniority barn not unusuall in aloat of places.

Goat I understand your problem but we all started somewhere cant blame someone for in proving them selfs. As a 25 year teamster all I can say is hang in there.U might want to look at your options with the Lancaster change could be a way for you to get steady work. I would also add that the main reason you and others are on lay off is because of the slow economy non of us can control that.Hopefully it will change soon so everyone can get back to work.
