We are being told in the west that we "as in line drivers" are going to have to start taking mandatory lunch breaks that will have to logged into the driver kiosk when we get back to the yard and it has to match our log.

Is anyone in the east hearing about this?

It was caused by a lawsuit in Cal. by a couple of line drivers that claimed they werent being allowed there breaks.

I talked to some FedEx National LTL driver today that said they have been newly required to take all their breaks.

Nothing yet at FXFE but we do have some meetings next week, so who knows.

If this is the case, yet another example of how a few ruin things for the masses.

Remember losing cruise at AF because some drivers crashed, or the back belts that HAD to be strapped at all times because there were some back injuries.

roog

we are required to take a lunch.if you do not you have to have a red shirt initial your vir or you get in trouble.this is not new at my center.every now and again they try to make us take lunch between our 3rd and 6th hour but once we start bringing returns or missing pick ups that rule seems to go away.our intermecs and new style cronos also alert you if you didn't take a lunch

We have had to take a lunch for some time. They take the time to program tattle tale screens into the intermecs, but they can't let me fix a mistake.

I'm becoming more convinced that moving the freight has become secondary to making sure their policies are followed. Snapshot is more important than the customers.

:shock:Snapshot just make's FDX"S number's and policies look good on paper just to SHOW the PUBLIC.:butt kiss::beerchug:

at my center as a city driver you are told to take lunch but as its been said here if its busy being an early starter you get all the 3 pm closers and your running like a dog so now when do you take lunch the dispatcher doesnt care if you take a lunch he cares only freight is picked up and his behind is covered not yours

Out east here line haul doesnt have to take a lunch unless they accumulate more than 8 hours on kronos....Dock. City is different because they are always on kronos, although like mentioned some special folks on city seem to get away w/o having to take it...but they are supposed to. Nothing mandatory for straight (over 8hrs) linehaul runs though. There are no restrictions saying you can't take one if you want though.
Its just an overtime thing

as somebody already said, this was caused by lawsuits in CA.. The courts said not only do you have to give an employee breaks and lunch, you have to make sure they take it..

We here at National linehaul are indeed told to take a "30 minute lunch break" between your 4th and 6th hour. This is new to us also....

Yeah CA state law is very specific about lunch breaks. Made the dock really fun to do, all the reg/ft employees would have to go on lunch right when the rush hit.

If the company tells me to take a lunch then I should be paid for it!

your state requires it. WA, CA, etc...

I actually talked to a Fedex package-delivery driver (Yes, the contracted couriers) the other day sitting on a trash can outside a gas station. He said he was taking the "mandatory" lunch break. I didn't quite know what he was talking about.

Could this all be related to some new policy?

According to our scm. Illinois law states us city drivers have to start our lunch by the beginning of our fifth hour. It's becoming another communist state.:hide:

Due to the new law in the great state of Illinois, you have to punch out for your lunch by your 5th hour. So we are told we HAVE to take it by the fifth hour. Even if it means missing a pickup. We have to worry about taking our lunch and dispatch has to worry about picking up the freight. this only pertains to people on the clock. Nothing for the road yet.......but give them time

guys its the law!!!. call your local labor relations office. fed ex is tryingto avoid a huge lawsuit like the ones with walmart. guys saying there not getting there lunch, so fedx is trying to get every one to follow the goverments rules before they get fined and or sued for millions.

If your lunch is important to you, call HR and tell them the name of the dispatcher who is not allowing you to take your lunch.

You will start getting to take your lunch. Because you're right, it will be your butt not his if you get "audited". Of course, a good auditor should wonder why your immediate supervisor is allowing this to happen.

WHAT??? Dispatch won't stick up for me???

Out here (the West), they have a phone number and a email address for our opinions on the lunches/breaks. Mine is in there. I hope others submit theirs, too. Breaks being offered are one thing. Taking them should be opional, especially for line drivers. Different animals from P/d. Snapshot will not look as good when transit times increase to reflect new rules. No choice in this. So much for the Purple Promise about every experience being outstanding
