R&L | Is anyone else sick of these idiots????????????

you know it is a shame you feel that way(im not saying you are wrong). it didnt used to be like it is now.
I can tell that is used to be a lot different, because there are reminders of that everywhere. They just seem to be ironic now. It's hard to reconcile "Pride In Our People. Pride In Our Performance" with "R+L does not care. R+L is going to do whatever is best for R+L," which is the response I get every time I talk to my supervisor about anything.

Of course a company wants to stay in business, and it's a job, not a birthday party, but there are ways to walk that line so that your employees feel good about what they're a part of, and R+L seems to have decided that it's more lucrative to make everyone aware that they care exactly zero about anyone.

"If you don't like it here, find another job."

Yeah, well, I'm working on it. They're hard to find these days, which is probably the biggest part of why R+L is getting away with these tactics.

Well...

It sure has changed in the last two - four years. It is truly sad that the powers that be have fallen prey to the "make a quick buck" buisness model.
I too, thought that this would be the last job I ever held. Now I don't know. I am not a quiter, but things just don't seem to get any better, do they?
The bad part is that it's not just R and L. It is all the LTL companies. I tell my kids that the days of making 60 to 70k a year on the sweat of your brow is over.
We are the last to be able to do it. And that's just plain sad...

We have a Combo Driver that runs 14+ a few times a week. He told me he has to BS on his log to be legal. Sometimes he works off the clock so he can make the run. He falls a sleep at the wheel on the way home from work he said. This Combo Job is not going away till they kill a few on the road. And are sued. Money alway's talks. The Driver that are driving in the High MT's Going 35mph for long streches. Well fall asleep at the wheel someday.

The same BS is going on in the shops to. Ed B told one of the mechanics in PHI that has fallen ill with organ failure to "Man up and get a job in Walmart if he cant be more productive". What ever happen to taking care of thier people that fall ill. He seems to forget his wife is sick with the same illness. Did he tell her to man up and get a job at Walmart???? inquiring minds want to know...........

Really?Man thats not cool.

It started out I was doing about 11-12 a day with a 14 thrown in once or twice a week every other week or so. I was running out my 60, and sometimes getting close enough I had to log tight on Friday to keep from going over, and I kind of thought it sucked, but it was something I could get through.

Then the other shoe dropped, and it's 13-14 a day until I run out of hours on Thursday, and then a huge knock-down, drag-out screaming match with copious amounts of the F-word being directed at me on Friday when I'm out of hours and can no longer run. I REFUSE to jerk my book around to make it look pretty so I have an endless fountain of hours. I WILL NOT do that for these people!

That's really the only victory I've won in this so far, and that's a line I'm not going to cross for any company that treats me this much like a piece of crap. You reap what you sow, R+L. You could have had an extremely loyal driver who would have done anything to take care of your business needs, but you chose to hire abusive managers who treat people like turds, and this turd is OUT OF HOURS.

Well, when that happened to me too regular, they just put me on a 70 hour clock....
I know that's happening more and more, and I'm waiting for that shoe to drop over here at our yard too.

I've spent most of my career under the 70 hour rule, even when I was home every night. The big difference is back then I was a driver, not a dock worker with a CDL. I don't think these two things are going to mix very satisfactorily, and if they pull that on me, it might be the last straw.

It's lame, but I just joined, and I need one more post in before I can answer this PM someone sent me. So this is it, because I'm in a hurry. Sorry for the noise.

I will fudge my book ONLY for myself, not anyone else

I remember years ago, my TM kept my time card so he could punch me out, when I was out of hours. I did it a few times, then finally wrestled the nerve and walked into his office, shut the door and told him the facts. I need this job, I will work hard for ya but I can't risk the welfare of my family and future. Worst case senario....Pregant woman, rush hour traffic, slams into you, her fault, someone is killed, lawyers will have you as a commercial driver under a microscope. That is how you may end up paying a wrongful death judgement, cause you were not supposed to be there. TM said OK, and went to the next sucker (new hire) that would let him do it. That was years ago though....just telling everyone my little story here, Later

You cant let the TMs walk on you.You made a good point here.

It's the same at any freight company driver...the grass is NOT greener on the other side...same crap happens over here at FredEx

I actually left FedEx Freight about 8 years ago because of the same crap. At the time R+L was a good company and I really felt it was a good move but alas all good things must come to an end.

You know if we stand together like Con-Way is in saying enough is enough. Then something might get accomplished.

Completely different. They are publicly traded and have one name,R+L is a private company with multiple names that are still viable.

After another week working out of that crap hole and dealing with these people, I've finally concluded that the root of why I hate it here so much is because I have been continually lied to since my first day.

It's just little things, but it's all starting to pile up week after week. I don't like working for people who lie to me, and for people who think I'm an idiot. The lies these people tell are like a kid trying to tell you he didn't eat the Oreos with a big brown smile on his face, and crumbs everywhere.

"Your meet driver left the yard at the same time you did." No he didn't, which is pretty obvious when he finally gets to me, and we, you know, talk to each other, and compare notes. Ohhhhhhh, you just thought one of us had one of those new R+L trucks that would run 96 mph and pull hills in 10th gear. My bad.

I could go on and on and on with a list of this stuff, and it's just one thing after another after another. If you're going to try to blow smoke up people's ass, at least learn how to do it with some skill.

I'd rather have the plain, unvarnished truth, no matter how bad it is. Telling people lies to make your immediate problem go away only leads to much bigger problems in the long run. There can be no trust in an environment like this, and it leads to a very adversarial relationship.

I'm feeling nothing but hostility for a company I wanted to love, and it makes me sad.

I was once a big cheerleader of this LTL. Not anymore. I just work my hours. I don't care how they route me. I just do it. If they call me in about how come I am not doing as good as I once did. I am ready. You route it I just do it. Not paid to think for you. When I am load wrong. If I can work around it I do. If not I drive the 30miles back to the Term. If they don't tie down the load and can not get to it. I tell them you got to strip the Trailer so I can tie down the load. If they pitch a fit. I take a pic. And go. If it falls then I deal with it infront of the customer. It's all in a day's work.

Silvan, everything you said there...I just had to laugh. It is a mirror of what I was saying straight to the managment, whenever I was being lied to. Fought that for many years. I have to be very lucky, that I have a linehaul run where I can...go in and hook with hardly anyone at the terminal and when I get back...do paperwork in truck, walk in throw it in the box and hightail it outta there. That seems to be the only way I got any happier. But, thought I would share that with you, that your post looked like many conversations over the years. Goodluck & Hang in there

Well if anybody really cared, but as you know the people running this mess is SCREW ALL and we need more money. Whether we stick it to the people we service or the drivers. Corp. does what ever they can get a way with. So Way should we even give a dam.
