Just curious what you guys think about this company. Hows the mileage, home time and starting pay, and of course respect to their drivers? Would you recommend it to a friend? Thanks

AT on time I would rate it the # 1 in the industry for all of the questions you asked , but under current managment it would be hard to rate it above a 6 on a scale from 1 - 10.

Otherwise the drivers and dockmen in general are a # 1 , it used to be said we were like family and to some extent we still are , like all places you have your disagrements with some , and you have your agreements with others.

I would rate it at about a 6 also. We are under poor management currently. Morale is horrible. The slow decline in customer service as a priority is crushing the attitudes because many of us remember what our service used to be. The stess level is very high because of the uncertainty of our future. No, I would not recommend this company to a friend right now. Hopefully, they start working on the "team" building concept soon. At this point, it is the company and the employees pulling in opposite directions. And our management are even running scared about their job security. Hopefully, things change soon. :smilie_132:

On these forums you see a lot of people from all companies worried about customer satisfaction and service. But I think it is generally skewed that way due to the nature of a forum that tends to attract people who are just generally more interested in things like that.

But at Holland, unlike other companies I have worked for (this is just my experience here) these topics are a major part of the general conversation in everyday working life. It is the Holland culture. It is not something you can engineer you have to breed it and nurture it. It is where YRC will fail unless they get someone in management who understands it.
I don't think there are any better companies out there right now. At least not large ones.

It would be very hard for me to recommend it to a friend right now due to the uncertainty of steady work.

best dam job you can find

:annoyed::angry2:for all the whinning guys do about yrcw IT IS still the best job out there!!!!!!!!!!!! I never never never ever hear of anyone quitting this job that has more than 6 mo. of senroity. Try to find another job in this industry and you will see all the 12.00 to 15.00 dollar an hour jobs. All the 34 to 41 cents per mile jobs. YES YES i would recomend this job to everyone, but this job is not for everyone ps. i've been laid-off since nov 07 and will go back when called so I know what else is out there. It really upsets me to here guys working every day and whinning how bad yrcw treat them

boy this dgfby must really love this place. just think he sits by the phone every day and waits for these morons to call him, now let me ask you this, what would you rather do, be unemployed or make 12.00 a hour. hmmmm? what a wonderful place to work eh.

love this place? HELL NO, you have no idea how much i hate yrcw!!!!!!!!!!!! are you working? IF so why don't you quit and take one of those 12.00 an hour jobs? I just get tired of hearing about the HOLLAND WAY and whinning about a job that you will never quit.

Yep, I think you might be onto something, DGFBY loves his job! That is just so hard to believe isnt it? I'm not layed off myself and I do feel for those that are, but last time I checked this isnt a brand new thing is it. Layoffs happen on a regular basis. I love my job also and try to keep positive about it even in the hard times. Yeah I said it, I love working at Holland and will either be a "lifer" here or ride the ship til Yellow sinks it, whichever comes first! So DGFBY isnt alone in his thinking!:jiggy: Uh OH maybe I spoke too soon!

Go figure, a positive post stops the thread in its tracks! Quit with the "doom and gloom" already would ya. Be happy for a change and enjoy life and what this good job has given you in return for your hard work! (I know, some are laid-off so dont even go there):chairshot:

He What?

I was just stunned into silence by the phrase "DGFCBY loves his job".:hide:

I didnt think I would ever see those words in print!:biglaugh:

:hysterical:OK so he didnt come right out and say it but I know he wanted to. He was trying to stick up for a good company/employer and I officially put myself on a Holland recon mission to defend her till the end. When I am home I will scan the site for negative comments and try my best to defend the Mother-ship!!!

Well, I am apoligizeing now drivers. Any Yrcw company right now would rate good at a 3 . Morale, there is none . Management , whats that. Giveing a crap about the customer , they haven't done that in 1-2 years. Yall say quite whinning, tell YOUR brother that , after all he still has a job to hate. Greedy bastards , ah, hel! ,there everywhere. Some of the employees hate the company ,but want quite . And far as layoffs go ,when I sign up for holland I excepted seasonal layoffs not hole frig'n quarters. And far as 12.00 bucks an hour, what kind of crack are yall smokeing. There is plenty of other companys that pay 1900- 23.00 depending on where you live.Bottom line the atmosphere at Holland sucks ,to many people crying over sh!t they can't change and thinking slow walking is going to help bring men back. One thing I could never figure out at Holland, you have a contract ,go by it, Company and Employee. Every person at holland isn't lazy or cap starters it's just the loud one that gets heard.Maybe one of these days some of them cats that hated there job so much will figure out what they really had.Hey, guys I wasn't directing this toward all of the employees just the ones everybody knows.Get your buckets the ship is takeing on water(tears) fast.

just curious

I am a driver at new penn but no one seems to blog anything on their site. but how does other drivers see np seeing how I am layed off right now

I still think it's a good place to work if you can get though the bad morale and B.S. Been here going on 15 years and never really had a problem As far as recommending this for work I would say NO! because I have seen to many good men quit good jobs and come over to drive at Holland and get disappointed, with layoffs and economics condition which is tampering with this industry.

I actually like this work. It is easy work. I look at my day as running my own little business. I have a laugh with the customers each day. I have mastered the quick conversation with customers. I just do my own thing each day. Once I leave the terminal to deliver and pick up, I am a happy camper. But, I do HATE being around the terminal. I admit it. I can not stand to see the inefficiency. Our mgt. team is running a worthless, corrupt operation, with no reguards for making a profit or growing the business. Don't bother jumping me for my observations that I see ever day. I just hope that other terminals are run properly. But, for this type of work.....I truly enjoy it. But, this is not the same company that I started with so long ago. I know that other companies have the same issues that we do. I DO think that we are near the "top of the heap" for quality companies, but we have a lot of room for improvement.:1036316054:

Apply here? Don't do it!! Our future is very limited. YRC only bought us for our next-day operations. They tried to take it over, and it didn't work, because of their work rules. Now, thanks to the new "Teamster/YRCW" , under the table, contract, they will be able to get it done. They are only holding on to Holland long enough to get their new operation running smoothly. Then Holland is history! Anyone who believes differently, is bling and nieve. Most of the "OLD-timers" at Holland, only look at what they, themselves, are doing each day. They don't look at the whole company. They are in there own little world. Our future is very limited. Apply for a stable company, that doesn't have to pay the Teamsters almost $500 a week, per employee, to support there over-paid officers, who don't give a sh!t about their members!

:chairshot:Just what we need, more drivers non union. That is the way to make the union strong. I am on lay off right now also, but I am still proud to be a Teamster. We need more members not less to make a difference.

Oh, and all those on here talking about loving this job, are most likely all city workers. They seem to be on break more than they work, they call in every Friday and Monday, {and get away with it}. So, of course they love there job. They can't get that anywhere else. They might have to actually work for their money elsewhere. Most of them wouldn't last a month at a non-union company. So ya, they've got it made at Holland. Oh, and they also always get everything they want. Like screwing over the road drivers on the Utility position, because they don't want senior drivers to dovetail in on the city board. They don't care that most of the road board is gonna lose their job. A change of operations is about following the freight. Its chasing road work. But the city guys all self-centered. BROTHERHOOD my ///. Oh, do I sound disgruntled? Ya, just a little bit.I used to love my job at Holland too, but I got screwed by YRC, the Teamsters, and my brothers. Sorry for the accusations, but its all true.

First off, I love my job and i'm linehaul!
Second, If my kitchen knives were sharper i'd slit my wrists after reading those posts. You said it yourself, you are a disgruntled employee. Tell us how you got "screwed" so bad and let us decide if you really did.
