We were told that there is to be no smoking in the trucks that we drive every day, (what if we share with another smoker), too bad, you'll BOTH be fired!
I was called into the scm recently for cussing
back at a fellow driver who cussed at me.
What gives here? Are we not truck drivers?
What the f'?
Now I am told we are not allowed to spit!
Excuse we me while I 'blank' all over.

The no smoking ban has been in effect for a while now. As for as cussing, come on. How can you not cuss while working for this company or any other trucking outfit?

I am aware of the smoking ban being in effect.
My question is . . . What's next?

Whatever they can take to gain more control over the good folks that make their living here.

I heard of a couple of guys that got fired at LDA for smoking on the grounds. No cussing?? Now that's a rule I haven't heard of yet. Be a lot of drivers fired over that one.

I do not believe the boss was quoting
any rule, just telling us to tone it down a bit. It blew me away tho. I was
thinking, "Does this guy even realize that we are truck drivers?"

I would have to agree with the no spitting. It's just disgusting and rude and can spread germs and diseases.
If you really need to spit walk over to the trash can and spit.

I never understood why people stereotype truckers as being slobs.
Not every trucker swears, spits or publicly displays bad habits. I certainly don't want to be stereotyped as being a slob.

.....I hope they catch the employee that pees between trailers.

I got a letter of instruction for inappropriate comments in the work section back in 2005...cause i told another driver to f off at a reship..i guess i hurt his feelings or something...

the smoking in the truck thing is simple...you either stopped on the side of the road, stood on the steps and smoked "i guess some of the smoke went into the cab oops.. you stood on the ground next to the cab with the door open, again some of the smoke went into the cab oops, or simply it wasnt me...

most of these types of rules are created because of disgustingly rude behavior of people...smoking in the trucks came about because of some far fetched, ambiguous law in Ohio i think it was, which applied to ohio...Dave M through his more often then not retarded ways of looking at things painted the big picture on that one...the spitting is disgusting...ever have a COSO fall into a trash can that some hillbilly (figuratively only) just spit a wad of chew in, only to find your COSO now has someones chew goop all over it?? That is disgusting...well the FAC's i go to, you have these types of people just spitting everywhere they seem fit...we cannot smoke on company property, so why should people be allowed to chew??? then you got the just down right ill mannered folks who just leave a hawker right in the middle of the dock, stairs to the entrance way, bathroom walls, etc, etc...a really nasty thing to do...as a hostler, i even had a driver spit a glob of who knows what was in his mouth/lungs out a dock door at XAB, unfortunately for me, i was just checking to ensure the trailer door was closed prior to pulling it...and lord and behold, blap, right on top of my hair above my forehead...fortunately, i liked the driver otherwise i am sure we would both be unemployed...

the intent of these rules is the benefit of all...and of course it is at the cost of the few...you must condone these rules as they are very much needed...the cussing one is something else i must admit...we are truck drivers after all, we are hired to move freight, and there really are no requirements for hire other then a CDL...we all come from different walks of life, and LH you are forced (i find pleasant) to interact with people from far different walks of life then you yourself, so we must be respective of each other more so then say an OTR driver...P&D comes into contact with customers, not really the best place to be motherf* people either...

smoking...if you smoke, keep the window open in the truck..plain and simple...keep the fan on inside to keep the air from stailing into a smokers den per se...i smoke, and even i dont want to smell that stinch, why would someone who doesnt smoke want to? Why should they?

Simple concern and thought is all it takes to keep yourself out of trouble with conway and have some courtesy to your fellow driver...

when a new, young airman back in 1981, a more senior (senior airman actually E-4) once told me a rule which i still live by today... "Think of the excuse before you do it"...has worked great for me...

Is that hillbilly for chewing tabacco ( if so that has been a policy forever "no tabacco products" ) or do you mean not allowed to spit.

tobacco products as a whole have never been banished that i know of since 1999...smoking yes, chewing no...next time i go to work, i will look it up in the policy book...no wait, we dont have one...

A few years ago i was coming around the corner of XNJ in the hostler by where we used to keep the empty vans, just in time to see our FOM Ernie walking out from in between the vans...he flagged me down, and i went to him...it was funny as crap...he was standing there fuming, shaking his head in disgust, and signaled me to follow him, so i got off the horse and walked with him...and guess what, a steamy pile of feces laying on the ground by the tandems...i laughed my butt off...he laughed too, but the moral of the story was...why? he thought it to be the CFI driver who had just dropped a load in a door, and while picking up the empty to leave (which he already had done) he dropped another load...my question is also...why???

If you have never driven OTR, you may see where this stereotyping comes from...if you have driven OTR, you will know.

My brother is in construction, not trucking (just to set this story up) and he cusses alot. Well one day he said one sentence of maybe 10 words of which 5 or 6 were cuss words.

I looked at him and said "Wow, you just used your whole vocabulary in ONE SENTENCE!!" :hysterical:

Our Sunday School teacher is an ex-Marine, 5 years service. One day he was trying to drive a point home and said the F word. I said WHOA!! He's like..what?? We all started laughing and he turned red. He apologised and said it came from years of talking like a Marine :hysterical:
He still teaches Sunday School...
On a 'Bad' day, there goes half my vocabulary..........

perfectly said

but you do just go ask your scm or hr man and you can read it any time

2 things wrong with this...one, we dont have an hr man...and two, i would rather have my testicles in a pair of misadjusted vice grips then ask my tm for the time of day, let alone good morning or hey, can i see the policy book...

the policy book crack was in regards to a thread we had a while back about the book no longer being available in the terminals, let alone issued to the workers...it was a long thread and was just a wise cracking repeat of most of the gist of that thread...
