Estes | Pay

Well I don't know about bleeding them dry, I think that may be an opinion formed through subjective observation that has nothing to do with facts and the write downs associated with the purchase of USF. And the serious competition that has been taking place in the long distance LTL market these past couple of years.

Of course there are many that would like to see all of us LTL drivers working under 3rd world conditions and wages. And the "race to the bottom" may just make it happen sooner than later.

I'd just like to see Estes step up to the plate and hit a home run for "family values" and pay time and a half after 8 or the very least after 40. It's what has been deemed fair in other industries for the past 70 years or more.

Out here in the west time and a half has for the most part been a given even in non-union work places until recently.

You are right on Jimmy with this and your previous post, these guys would'nt get it if a board hit them up side the head.
Estes just keeps thing lower so hopefully put everybody else out of business and then what.
I heard a TM one day say man Roadway is'nt doing so well would be great to see them close the doors.
Now I am a non union driver for one reason I can not afford to go back to part-timing again waiting for the phone to ring.
But what he said is BS I don't want anybody out there that has the great job to lose it.
God knows there are enuff people losing good paying jobs as I speak seems like a everyday thing.
The worst thing about Estes is the run thing on linehaul say you have had the same run home every night and been doing it for say 12 years and they decide to cancel it you are stuck going out in the system.
Estes has some real stupid things they do, but for the most part it is a decent job.
But man are there some of the dumbmest things they do.

They alway's offer extra board if your run is cut. That's always been a problem here. I know folks that had the same run for years and lost them. They were alway's put on extra board. The problem is the emty miles on the return. If there is constant emty miles on a bid run it will eventually be cut. Some folks are spoiled and woundn't think about running extra board and quit. They have to be home. Which I think that "being home" thing is a little overrated. Also there is no terminal in Tifton Ga.

Well when you got a wife and two kids you get used to being home and when you got 12 years in the company and they tell you welcome back to extra board son while some guy that has a couple of years in gets to get home every other day or everday for that matter that sucks.
Call me selfish but most companies I know of reward employee's for there time spent in the company.
Seniority should matter.
Two things Estes could do to make it a good company make time matter and the hourly with overtime.
Hell they basically pay it now anyway with the way alot of these guys milk it for 60 hours.

estes east needs to bump bid and at least bid once a year, estes west does it. estes east is stuck in the stone ages. or just stuck on stupied

I hear ya! The point I was getting at was people quit because of runs cut. I know plenty of folks who lost their runs and went extra board and hated it but with plenty of seniority 9/10 times would have another bid run in the same year. I'm gone all week and also have a wife and kids. I get home sometimes through the week and spend all day Saturday, Sunday, and Monday with them. I'm at the house right now- both kids playing the drum set.(I don't sleep much by the way) This job is by far the easiest job I ever had. This company really does not do the seniority thing even close to the way things are normally done. I know folks that been here for 20+ years and went p&d and if a decent linehaul run opens a newbie extraboarder has more seniority for that run. Ofcourse ya'all already know that. Also the trucks newbies get newer trucks because of the age of the truck they start out in. That's just a couple of things that always left me scatch'n my head. Senority is time spent with the company and a truck driver is a hub, local and otr.

Yeah, I heard thats the way they work it,but say you have 20+ yrs and went line haul, hub, greenboard whatever does your senority pick back up after 90 days or is that a b/s question because it doesn't matter unless your in bed with one of the higher ups?:butt kiss:

That 90 day thing keeps folks from bidding on a run then rebiding again.....After biding your stuck for 90 days with that run. After 90 days your seniority kicks back in but only with the time in for a particlar run. If your were linehaul for 18 years and hub for 2 years. Then you would only have 2 years seniority for a hub position....but if your currently linehaul you can't bump another hub driver from another hub run that comes open. It dosen't matter if he only been doing it for one day. Seniority mostly works for your vacation time and lay offs. It's still a great place to work. I remember saying when I first came to work here...."Seniority with this company means Time spent doing nuth'n."

My mistake It was Albany Ga. The Driver was From Tifton

Mildew, I am glad you are happy working for Estes. You mentioned on the other thread that you love your football and you never miss a game working for Estes. And you said a truck driver is a truck driver and a dockworker is a dockworker. But if what you say is true (" a truck driver is a truck driver") then why are there "green boards, extra boards, hub boards" all receiving different pay scales? And then, on top of all that, another pay policy for the west? That doesn't sound fair to me. And how about departing from your lay down, at a terminal, before your (dot mandated, mandatory) 10 hr. rest period? Sounds like a serious breach of federal safety laws to me. Laws that are set in stone, to protect you, and the public at large. I don't know Mildew. It all sounds pretty strange to me. But who am I? I'm just a disgruntled x employee. Right? Teamster Elvis out......

Who cares I made around $75,000 last year, good enough for me. As for being extra board they deserve the extra cent for being gone all week.
