Yellow | Layoffs at your terminal

Hoping for the best?

Whelp out here is S. Cal. (830) I just finished giving a orientation class for line haul (R-14) with 5 people in it, and was told of more to come. Kind of funny since we are a loosing terminal in our latest change of ops..
Anyways everyone have a Great Day and GOD BLESS!!!
:USA:

milwaukee (313) just laid off one more dock worker, WHY? morans say the work is slow but guess who's here every day, yup the laid off guy, we must have about forty men laid off and on call.

Will this ever stop??

Add to that 6 more dock and 2 more switchers at 671! That makes a total of around 55 671 dock workers laid off.:nutkick: That's 1/3 of the dock seniority list. DS.

Will this ever stop?? AFRAID NOT BRO or not as long as we keep letting the utility drivers strip and stack whatever freight they want, and guys just keep working all the o/t they can grab.
some of the o/t hogs should read that other thread on here about the pention play in dire straites.why? because of declined membership paying into the plan ?
yrc has figured out how to play use all against each out and its working out great for them .

its not the utility driver ,its the companys use or i should say misuse of these drivers..
common practice seems to be when they have finished working their trucks to bring main line strips in and then work them or to have these guys stack trailers that they are not pulling just for something to do ..
and the dock layoffs continue

and just remember....all of those guys are still working 40-50 hours a week STILL.......why the need for more layoffs ? everybody is still working.....if 671 wants the flexibility and found a way around the 10% rule, why not create a callboard then...... there is NO NEED for more layoffs, except to screw the men:ranting2:

three line haul in Milwaukee effective 8-16-08 @ 23:59... fifth time for me since November 2007... getting hard to hang on... best of luck to the brothers and sisters who are in the same boat
Good luck  2 more in linehaul at 547 effective 00:01 8-24-08
It is gonna take a major upswing in economics in this country for things to get better for most of us. So go ahead and vote McSame and get the same policies that brought you all to this dance...

personally i think the company is just hiding behind the economy. its there excuse for doing what they do..
breaking the union is the main objective now days .get rid of men under 20 years service and never replace them , or replace them with a casual work force.

At Knoxville

I dont know how it works in W/S but at Knoxville we all work the freight together, regular dock hands and ue's together. We all jump in and strip and stack velocity freight and then we go home. It sounds like at W/S there is so much separation that it creates an us against them mentality. Are they (the company) trying two aproaches or how is it at other velocity hubs, please let us know from other hubs! I will try to find out Monday night if they have any full timers on lay off unless someone else knows.:Duel:

Hey Nite Rider............I doubt Knoxville has any layoffs on the dock considering the COO didn't fill and dockworkers from 411 are working there. 671 (Winston) is a classified terminal and in the dock classification there are 55 dock guys laid off. Now if all our guys were back, it would be a little different.

The only problem I have with the UE position is when UE drivers are working mainline freight and our guys are setting at home. DS.

Aren't the laid off men working all they want? If regular dock guys are helping unload our trls which I'm not sure there really suppose to be doing doesn't this balance out?

We had ALL of our Road Drivers back off lay off for about 2 weeks now effective @ 00:01 8/24/08 the bottom 2 will be back on lay off!!! Thank You YRC for letting them screw their lives up AGAIN!!!!!:BS::eck13::ranting2:

At 671 not all the laid off men are working. Regular dock guys don't unload UE's trailers, the UE does. Regular dock guys are to unload everything else that comes in (driven to the terminal by a linhaul driver)........but management has the UE unloading those trailers too, which in my opinion against the contract. To me it's pretty simple, if you are a UE and you or another UE didn't bring it to the terminal, it's not your work, period.

Don't get me wrong brother, the UE is only doing what the supervisor tells them to do. It's all on the company and the way they are currently operating. Once they start paying $$ on all the complaints filed......then we'll see some changes. IMHO.........DS.
