FedEx Freight | They've started re-stickering trls already

We use 53 rentals for routes all of the time. Dock figures a van is a van. Nothing like 10 or 12 delivery stops with swing doors!

Good Lord does that bring back memories.......14 to 18 stops with a cab over and a 53 footer swinging door when I worked for big W....ooouuuch!

Back when Fedex bought Watkins, and they took a buttload of good volvos, and left us with the hot boxes, now we will get back the volvos, now that their worn out.....yay! BTW, I heard that a driver pulled a natl pup the other day, and his key wouldnt fit the lock!!!! It looked exactly like the master locks we have......he goes all the way back to the yard, only to have a sup come out and "lend" him the right key.......now thats productive!! So watch out, dont take that peddle run with a natl trailer unless you check the lock first......or...... you can get to you first stop, and call in.....my key doesnt fit, what about this GAMD? that delivers in 30 minutes...ha ha ha ha ....
And, Im not scared of 53'.....drag 'em.......just another day......

Your telling me a driver left the yard without checking his load.. Even when you have the correct key for the lock you check it before you leave the yard. Come on now, are we that helpless out there?

That's not called helpless---that's just plain stupid.

The 53's we are inheriting have lift-gates too so you know they will not be trap trailers, They also have the adjustable "decking" inside. The decks get stored up near the ceiling and can be pulled down to accommodate what ever configuration you may need.

I pulled my first resticker it looked ok. They put a 8 over the top of the fedex national number. It looked ok. I thought they would just put sticker over the national ltl but the peeled it off and stuck on a new freight sticker.

The old National traielers that I"ve seen with the #8 in front were made into logistics trailers (they had the rails put into them) that way the dock can use the logistics bars and not mess with those god awful things that were put into the trailer to double stack the freight.

Yea, he checked his load......but then he locked the lock and took off, like we all do everyday......I guess you check your lock too before leaving the yard?.......

They've already put a couple of 53's in service here. Hard enough getting 48' into some of our customers. So far they've been careful to limit them to industrial parks and large customers like Lowes and WalMart.

Stupid thing is the skirts under them. Not a lot of clearance once you get off the street. Swinging around to line up with a customer's dock I had to pull up into unpaved/uneven area. Skirt was inches from ground.

Yeah, I've seen those and wondered about the clearance. Looks like they were meant for road driving, not local P&D.

only watkins trls have drop bars. there # s are anywhere from 18500 or lower. any new trls bought buy fedex do not have drop bars

One thing they have done already is merge the equipment into the computer so we can use them. I pulled a national gear last trip. It went right into the computer and I didn't have to switch it out for a freight gear. TP

I saw one of our 17XXX trailers with the 8 above the number but it still had the National stickers.

Here's the 2 Multimodel trailers we had in the yard yesterday.

Mark my word, after Jan 30, they are going to start using the rail with the economy freight to reduce Linehaul cost. They can pay the railroad $900 to move a van across the country on the rail instead of paying all the pony express drivers thus eliminating a boat load of cost and of course eliminating Linehaul drivers.
