Heard this form not only some fos's but an regional operations that we were on our way to going wireless with hand held thingamabobs sort of ala fedex. now i know that this has been an ongoing rumor for quite sometime. I have seen tech type guys come to my terminal and install wireless transmitters, router boxes in the beams.

Yes, we are holding our breath, because we have been anticipating this for years, but 2009 will finally see the rollout of the 21st century...should be great...

Wireless...

The W&I analysts should be getting the wireless units somewhere around January.

The scale lifts are already using a wireless network that is set up on the dock. If you look up in the "rafters" you will see the wireless routers in 2 or 3 places down the dock.

If you go into the employee portal and look under "training" you can see it. There is also a video session if you want to get a heads up on how to use it.

we are beginning the dock automation at lfw this coming monday. should be fun on the inbound, not much training, but we will make it work:hysterical:

We're already using hand held Mims in the city & on the dock.We use them to load on FAC & we also been using them for Inbound too.Inbound has gone totally paperless no load sheet at all. When that last Pro is either on the truck or on the dock(tail frght) the mims let's you know it's the last pro.We are able to finish loading the docked freight & close the trailer for del.
We've had to wotk out some bugs & it's not perfect by any means, but I've gotten to like using them.Don't even use my pen on inbound at all.
They've been asking us questions on how they work & they've been updating them as we go along,so hopefully by 2009 when it kicks in there wont be as many set backs.
No more signing Manifest & it's easy to find out who moved it last if there are any questions about the shipment. And as long as it's skanned on a trailer no more mystery on where the shipment is.

Thank you, 4.3, to you and your colleagues, for being the guinea pigs for this...you are the first person to actually share a little detail, and it's good to get a peek from someone who has been part of the process...appreciate you sharing...I have been looking forward to this for too many years...

Okay, this sounds great, but for the real important stuff. CAN YOU DOWNLOAD p*on ON THEM WHILE LOADING:biglaugh:

:hide: OK.........the big question......Can you use them when it is 0 degrees without taking your warm gloves off? :smilie_132:

1st question; no you can't download p*on(Too funny!) If we could none of the trailers would get loaded!!!:hysterical:
2nd yes that's exactly right use cell & pc for the good stuff!:1036316054:
3rd yes we get down in the low teens & sometimes below 0 sometimes. The mims come with a little stylus pen like attached to it.:funky:

:hide: Cool deal! I am all for any contraption that allows us to keep our gloves on! :smilie_132:

I'm about 11 years removed from the "white climate", but we always stood behind forklifts...does that still work..??

It still works but is only a temporary fix.

They installed those radiant heat floors on our dock a few weeks ago. I can't wait to see how those work.

I can't wait till the entire system is up and running with the scanners. I think it will be a huge improvement once all the bugs are worked out.

as stated earlier we are going to dock automation this coming monday i will let u know how us dumb texans can adapt to this technology:smilie_132:

so, can you lie down on it and warm up..???

I suppose you could. The initial purpose of them was so the dock does not ice up with the tears of those former line drivers when they bid city and the over-time ends. Or for that matter my tears, as there is no longer a need for the gravy volume run I have been on for two plus years. I'm now a rented mule with a bad start time.
