A driver took a plunge out the back of a trailer on his forklift as it pulled away from the dock. Let's all hope for the best for him.:console:

Thats why I ALWAYS get out and check the trl before pulling out!!!!!.One time it was ,there was somebody in my trl,I received my paperwork, and they said it was done, but they forgot something.i ALWAYS,ALWAYS check the seal.I pray that forklift driver is not hurt bad.

I do the same. You can accomplish 3 things by doing that. 1) ensure the door is closed and sealed 2) check that all lights are in working order on the rear 3) ensure the appropriate placards, or lack there of, are there. I will keep that driver in my thoughts and prayers. I imagine at the very least he/she has a very messed up back.

Let's all hear it for FXN

What's that supposed to mean? Has this never happened at another company?

I wonder who and why was the trailer pulled out. Was it a yard hostler? Did someone pull the wrong trailer?

Did the driver of the forklift get hurt? There's a lot ,issing from this story.

Forklift Driver

I sure hope the forklift driver is OK. We've had that to happen before, driver was fired unfortunately, can be very dangerous at times. You MUST look at rear of trailer, no exceptions, before pulling out. Have a great day and be careful.:smilie_132:BigW-RD

I second that!

Has this never happened at another company?
It sure has. Happened twice in 3 years at Conway when I was there. The second time it involved 2 vet drivers one in the Hostler yanking the box and I think we know where the other fella was.( and yes he had a severely messed up back and a pair of dirty shorts when it was done) thank god he didn't try to jump out!

It was an off loader. The driver thought it was his TBU, took down the rope, and went in. It was a door to door move by a hostler. The chauk was on the dock when the driver went in. All we knew when we left work Monday night was that he whiplashed his back when the forklift landed on the ground. I will have to find out how his back is and if anything was wrong with him when I go in tonight. I've been off the last 2 days. Hope he is okay, he had just started last week. He is a line haul driver/dock.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like a couple of safety procedures were ignored. I pray he isn't hurt too bad and can return to work soon.

Me too. I just hope he doesn't lose his job over it.

There is no reason he should lose his job. It is the driver's responsibility to make sure the door is down before pulling it away from the dock. If the door is not down, then the trlr is not finished, or it has'nt been closed out and sealed. Even if the trlr is m-t, we are not allowed to pull the trlr out until the door is shut.

I agree the driver should check the door I never pull a trl away without checking and I know that the chock block is to be up on the dock if the trl is going to be pulled away. I know its a very small sign to a fork lift driver a very small one but where was it and was it even a policy at that yard to put it up on the dock.
