Heard this from several people in Lakeland today. All the linehaul's are shutting down within the next few weeks. Orlando Linehaul will be the first to go followed by HBG.

nice third post!

do you mean the dispatch offices or the entire operation?

big difference there!

Im going to guess the offices. Pretty much all the linehaul managers might lose their jobs. They already let go someone out of Orlando LH who's been working there for 20 years.

Heck people in the Lakeland General Office are being let go left and right.

A lot of the L.H. dispatchers are gone, along with safety and the
guys that do Run/Driver projection and planning. Drivers are now needed at spots where they would need meet and turn in place of team drivers that would normally roll thru. City dispatchers are taking over the L.H. dispatchers posts during the day. P&D drivers and road drivers and city operations are being combined into one building/room at big yards. With the cut backs at line haul, is a driver cut back out of the question ? In the last year all city drivers were road qualified/trained at most all terminals, a lot of them are also working the dock. Replacing some FT and PT Dock workers. Hope they won't be covering holes in line haul.

well they cut our office people back starting monday they cant get over
35 hours the city guys have not had know lay-offs but a few of them sitting home quite a bit. freight is very slow over here at freight its know telling what they have up there sleeve next. even the freight going into the hub in richmond,va is very very slow.... guess if it dont pick up they will be cutting city/road. we have guys sitting home due to slow freight but i have not seen them stop using the purchase trailer drivers........

Now Denver is just as slow as anywhere :hide:

If FXNL is shutting down linehaul, then why would FXF send 1,000 trlr's to National. I take it there going to unbrand them and rebrand FREIGHT. I think NOT.:toxic:

Does anyone think Fedex National will be going back to using contractors, like they were before the Fedex parent company took over Watkins Motor Lines in 2006?

They hired a few in SLC, had a red shirt there recruiting them......Said they were fxg contractors:hide:

Why would FXNL go back to contractors with all the problems FedEx Ground is having with the contractor model? The FedEx Ground situation ought to give anyone using contractors in a P&D operation second thoughts due to the risk of future class-action lawsuits, IRS back taxes, fines, etc.

How long do you think the major LTL companies will stand idly while these contractor companies (Towne Air, Roadrunner, etc) chip away at their market share? UPS and FedEx have major connections at the top levels of government and they will use this power to drop the hammer down on these so-called "non-asset" based companies.

Trust me.

The Question Was Is Nat'l Hiring Contractors and the answer is Yes they are. As to why they would I don't know, but i don't like it. You seem to know Everything ( must me a Redshirt Thing) so I'll leave you to figure it out:hide:

yes trust you becuase you wisdom here on the boards is such an asset:chairshot:

Well, why do you think FedEx Ground is having all these problems with class-action lawsuits, the IRS, and legal problems with the states?

UPS didn't like it because they were losing ground market share.
The Teamsters didn't like it because it was affecting their members and they couldn't organize FedEx Ground.
The states didn't like it because they were losing tax revenue since these O/O's were doing 1099s on their drivers. The staes want W2's so they get a guaranteed cut of their tax money.

Follow the money trail and you'll always find out who's behind this stuff. :smilie_132:
