FedEx Freight | BIG COST CUTTING NEWS!!! FedEx Moves to Cut Costs, Posts Higher Profit

God I hope I dont see a fx superbowl comercial, or that number 11 car or the pga tour. in 09. FED EX is a household name brand. Do we need all that? Lets put our people first, the hard working men and women who bleed purple. GOD BLESS ALL

IN the statement we got today at the center from harrison stated on the very bottom that you will not see any super bowl commercials and when contracts are up with the orange bowl and washington redskins that the contracts will be looked over more carfeully...

I agree with you guys about how we were treated wasnt really right, specailly not even given til the end of the bid to be dropped to city or full time not given til after holidays, but ohwell...i just really hope this phase of layoffs and cuts is it for a while.. i made the first cut, but im guessing i wont make the 2nd cut if their is one

Obviously you don't deal with customers and see what reductions in workforce do to customer service. We're putting fewer drivers on the street (dictated by regional management) to the point of not being able to cover all the freight needing picked up. How often do you think you can leave customers hanging before losing said customers?

Seems like I remember reading the same complaints from the YellowRoadway folks, that you are bringing up here.
I'm wondeing if they are trying to train the customer to not
have very high expectations during this financial crisis.

The statement reads: reduce work hours for hourly employees........

This isn't happening out west right now. As stated elsewhere on this forum I would also like to thank the idiots in Harrison for the ****** up program now installed on our computers. I have made a lot of money in stand by time because somebody else can't/won't get their crap together in order for this to work smoothly. I'm not seeing where every change that has been made so far is saving us money as a company. It seems to be costing more. Oh yea, whoever said that east was 10 years ahead of the west in operations had to have been dreaming. A pen and paper backup ( sign in/out sheets ) only cements the realization that the computer program is junk and you expect it will fail.

The way I see it is...

if losing 3.5% is going to put you in the poorhouse, you deserve to be there because you are living way beyond your means.

ACT YOUR WAGE!

When (if!) business picks up, those hours will come back, and quick.

The way I read the news wires, the salaried cuts are permanent, and they won't get any normally scheduled raises until 2010. So if a manager got his annual increase in November, he won't get another one until November 2010.

oaf

it will be longer than that old af before we (redshirts) see another wage increase not to mention that what raise we do get in the future will never be enough to recover the 5% that we just lost. which for the guys at the bottom of the pay scale like myself will have an up hill climb just to get back to where we were at before this little holiday gift fedex just gave us :nutkick:

I hate that this happened:
but it would of made me felt better if they tried this first, before lay offs
I got a 100% pay cut: oh ye and Merry Christmas

I spoke to 15-20 salaried people at Freight yesterday. All of them said the same thing. If these cuts mean they're helping prevent more of our people from being laid off, we're doing the right thing. All FedEx salaried people at all OpCo's are getting the cuts. It hurts, but its for the greater good. Think long term, better to make some adjustments now so we can maintain the service product and come out of this economy strong unlike many companies that wait until they're in the toilet before trying to do something.

After 46 posts, and nobody has yet figured out that a
401K freeze is the equivalent of a 3.5% pay cut.
But then most everybody only look at their take home pay.
Same reason why government gets away with ever higher taxes. We only look at the take home pay part of the check and don't think twice about all the taxes deducted from the gross.
Bottom line.
Even salaried employees that are taking a 5% pay cut are actually taking a 8.5% pay cut when you include the 401K match.
And no cost of living increase for 2009.

This is one of the reasons I put in 17% it lowers my taxable income greatly and is preparing me for retirement. (I hope)

It was my understanding that the 5% cut would come from the salaried side. I wasn't aware that Fedex Freight had any union supervisors or managers. When I asked our ops supervisor about the 401(k) suspension he assumed it was only for the salaried supervsior positions. I haven't had a chance to call HR to find out what the skinny really is.

I really dont think its to much to ask in the economic situation we are in. It sucks but, if it will keep us working lets do it and move forward. Like Jeff said if a five percent pay cut is gonna break you, you should quit trying to keep up with the JONES'S cause their house is getting foreclosed on!!!

Fact checkin'

River17,
find your favorite redshirt and ask what company match they get on their 401 (k). It's higher than yours and mine, but you didn't hear it from me!

Wrong...the match is 3.5% of 6%, just like everyone else. That is a FACT.
