Been seeing more and more of these trucks out west with the Mercedes motors in them. What were they originally brought out here for? Weight? Better handling in snow? Dont think I've ever seen one hooked to triples because it would be over length from what I've heard. Wonder if the company will buy any Cascadia tandems soon.

had an 09 columbia twin screw here for a day around Sept(had 3000 miles on it) for a heavy load on a pup then when back to ATL the next after delivery.last week an 09 cascadia was brought in but will move on to another terminal when plates are put on.

What did the 09 have in it for power? Still going with the Mercedes? Surprised these newer tandems dont have sliding 5ths.

i did not have a chance to look.the truck was hooked and heading out into the city and was either not back or gone back up the road when i returned in the evening.it would have had to been either the mercedes or cummingsX .from what i understand OD wants the CATS but cannot get what they want yet.the new Volvos we have on our yard all have the red enginge cummingX. i drove one of the 07 columbia with the mercedes engine last week and it pulls very well.i liked that truck and its pulling power. i do not drive the freightliners very often as i have a assigned city unit.

All of the 09 columbias team or daycab have the dd15 Detroit motor I don't know if the cascadia has it or not I know they are not buying any more Mercedes motors to expencive to work on also SLc uses twin screws for triples but there the only ones I've seen using them for triples

Salt Lake City terminal has a few new 09 Columbias twin screws with the new Detroit motors in them. There are also some single screw tractors with the new Detroit's in them also.

Do you think most of the tandems were purchased for linehaul? I think it'd be handy for more larger terminals to have atleast one on hand to tackle the common overweight long boxes used for peddle runs. Purchase enough of them and maybe someday we could save some money running trailers from the rail yards.

The way I understand it is Utah, Idaho and Nevada have somewhat relaxed the length restrictions. I think it is based on cargo length and gvw only in these states.

looked in the 09 cascadia this morning.it has electric windows, electric mirrors, closable compartments vs open cubby holes.when ready to be sent out to the road it will also have a GPS transponder much like the OTR carriers.it also has the detroit engine.

That is too many gadgets for me at once. For GPS transponder do you mean like a Qualcom?

recently I was told the only reason we don't have the paperless logs has been because they were working on getting the right system to work with ODs current computer systems. meaning. you know so your equipment numbers will be listed in the truck and linked with dispatch ..

DEN and SLC have quite a number of tandems to pull "Rocky mountain doubles"[van and pup combination]You need a tandem due to the axle weight of the van, this is very common between SLC and DEN.

the GPS system is a theft device.this is what i was told.just an equiptment locator.it is a screw off monitor...

So paperless logs, GPS transponders, electric windows, power mirrors, lane depature warning system. When will OD finally catch up and put in a simple am fm radio?
