FedEx Freight | seat belts on towmotors !

Money savings

But has anyone ventured to guess how many times you have to buckle and unbuckle in a night? I figure between 30 and 60 times.

I thought they were working on cutting costs.

Can you imagine how many buckles they will have to replace every year.:hysterical:

Too funny rodedawg! And this so-called wall flower can run circles around you on the dock any day clandestine_ice...

C'mon lets be honest. We know that most guys who ride the lift, never get off. They will stack empty pallets or cruise looking for something to do. They'll never notice.

I saw a red shirt typing the names of all the drivers into a spreadsheet that he spoke to about putting on their seat belts last night. I said, "That is one long list." He said, "Yeah, every driver gave me hell about saying something to them." I could tell he would have rather been managing his lanes instead of keeping a spreadsheet.

The hell with it! I'm a company man and I choose to go down with the ship even if I break my spine and split my skull open on the roll bars.

We had this stupid rule when I worked at Lowes. You have to jump off too much to keep a seat belt on. I'm always getting off the forklift, less bills per hour, more write ups for not doing enough work or doing it fast enough. Another reason to terminate employees?

This is how the "west" does it. Learn it ,love it, live it. We have been doing this way for years. You're overreacting. Once you do it a while you'll love it.

Yeah, it gives me a warm feeling all over that when I hit a redshirt wander'n all over the road, I won't get thrown threw the mast... :stirthepot:

Ahhhhh, Safety first ! ! ! It proves that they really do care about us. Think of it as a hug from FedEx everytime you buckle up.

I'm tellin ya folks, OSHA is runnin the world. Just wait till they're able to get inside your cabs........

there ...I said it

I had heard about seatbelts on towmotors/ forklifts/ pallet jacks/ two wheelers / hand trucks .......oh wait the last 3 don't belong here .... anyway a long time ago ..... it just has not been pushed until now ...

Seems every winter when its slow the nit picky things come out ...ya know .... the thing that office sups and dept heads do to prove there job is needed ..... not picking on the office people really ... just those that really don't do anything ....

well knobby, the nickname fits. KNOB! I dont know where you are from, But here in the north east, we have snow and ice. With that, the trailers slide out away from the docks. I am not sure if you have ever seen a lift go off the dock this way or even seen a man get crushed by one of these machines. Look buddy do yourself,Family and co-workers a favor and wear the sealt belt.I am sure you are one of these guys that god forbid you get hurt by not wearing a sealt belt , you would most likely sue fedex for every red cent you could. And regaurd less of how much money this company has the rest of us would have to pay for your ignorance. I have seen a forklift and driver go to the ground while he was backing out of a trailer, The trailer slid away from the dock, when the rear of the lift hit the dock plate it threw the driver off.he landed on the ground, then the fork lift hit the ground at an angle and fell on top of him, CRUSHING him!DEAD. a wife a 1 kid.As you can imagine everyone wanted to see what all the noise was, and to their surprise was a man dead bleeding from every open hole on his body. Look this is not a bs story and something I wish I had never seen.If he just had the belt on he may have only broke an arm or leg or even cut his head, but at least he would still go home to his family. I am a fxf city driver from New York. So please, any body who reads this please wear the belt. You do get paid by the hour.

Well, here are my 2 cents. I understand the rule, in fact I'm surprised it hasn't been enforced before now. What I disagree with is selective rule enforcement. I was "told" to put on my seatbelt last night on a "couple" of occasions. So I started following all safety rules. You know, brake set, motor off, forks down, no scanning from the lift, no mass scanning, and the biggest rule breaker for everyone, BRISK WALKING PACE. Guess what, I was asked why I was driving so slowly! When I explained I was following the safety rules I was asked not to be rediculous.
So I ask you guys, whick rules are we supposed to follow?

Yes it might be a pain in the azz to some, but OSHA has the final word and that is wear the damn seatbelt, don't be upset if some time in the near future they mandate that you must wear a safety vest and a hard hat and while we are at it throw in safety glasses, just my 2 cents.

Remember when we had to all wear the stupid back braces???? Oh, well, putting the seat belt on won't save my pants if I roll off the dock. Them britches won't be fit to ever be worn again!
