FedEx Freight | Hot Topic- One Board Or Two Boards

One Board

Ok,,, lets open this for discussion,,,,, (again) .... It may be time to reopen this with all the layoffs.... First,,, my disclaimer,,,, NO LAYOFF is good,,,,, BUT,,,, to layoff a person that has given many years of their life to a company,,, just to be canned,,, when somebody who just started 6 months ago can keep their job,,, is NOT right in my opinion.... Now I know I'm swatting a hornets nest with this one,,,, BUT,,,, this concept works for other companies.... Personally ,,, "I THINK" layoffs should go by COMPANY seniority period.... We ALL gave (give) our time to this company,,,, I just don't think its right giving 10,, 15 or more years of your life to this company just to be canned so they can keep someone with a year or two.... MY OPINION,,,, and so far,,, Jeff says I have that here,,,,,, (so far) ..............

I think the company would probably rather have TEN Boards instead of TWO or ONE. I think their idea is to try to get rid of as many old hands with 4 weeks of vacation for younger people with 6 months seniority that have no clue how good we used to have it here.

I TOTALLY AGREE with you River,,,,, the idiot college pukes making life changing decisions look at nothing but numbers... I know alot of that is needed to run a company in the black,,, BUT,,,, sooner or later it will bite you.... Once again we go back to those threads of AMERICAN and VIKING ,,, they got to where they were mainly by treating employees good,,, and it filtered (OR WILL) down to the CUSTOMERS....... hmmmmmm oh well.... Day by Day,,,, what a shame.....

I really feel bad for the guys in California that really got murdered. Many lost their jobs or are driving to a hub to drive a forklift all night.

:shift:

Thats what I do,,,, BUT its needed,,, its a good paycheck,,, and I see people everday (especially now) getting canned with 10-15 (or more) yrs with this company,,, GOOD PEOPLE ,,,, I'd LOVE to go back to the city and stay with this company rather than loose my job to somebody (also looking to make a living) that has been here a year or two....
Once again,,,, we ALL need a job,,, or we wouldn't be here..... BUT,,,,, "TIME IN SERVICE" should mean something,,,,, (oh,,, wrong "service" ....

Now I see what you are saying.
But since it makes too much sense,
I'm afraid they will try to go the opposite way.

Your years at Fedex should make a diffiernce. You see guys with 12+++ years getting the boot and people who haven't even been there 2 years keeping their job. Company seniority should mean something.

1 board or 100 boards doesn't matter we are at will employees.fedex has no respect for senority, its employees, its equipment, and its facilities.fedex only has respect for the all mighty dollar

There are a lot of senior city drivers out there with 20 plus years that would love to go road and get the big money for these day time meets. Most of us went city because we did not want to spend so much time away from home. Now, local is working longer hours for less money. With a one board system, a 12 year road driver might find him or herself with a 11 am city start time, lucky to see 6 hours a day. Be careful what you wish for.
If your service center has city drivers with only two years service, the hatchet man has been kind.

those city drivers that have put in 20 years deserve to have what ever they want they helped build af, when i hired on 14 years ago they told me layoffs went by company seniorty period not board seniorty, i have transfered to the city and back to the road again i excepted going to the bottom of thr board but i will not except being layed off by board seniorty, thats just plain wrong, as i said we helped make this company what it is today, busted our tail with endless hand freight night after night, city boys busted their tail, dealing with customers, damaged freight, and so on. Fed Ex stand up and do what is right for a change for what is left of your employees, we the people, that made you rich, not outside carriers, i hate outsourcing ,well that said your turn, tell me im wrong bigtime road driver

Layoffs are by "company seniority" in your current job class, meaning a guy with 20 years service that just recently transfered to the road board will not be layed off untill everyone on the road board with less "company seniority" than him has been layed off.

this is just a dream and any way lets just say a cdl dock hand has been here 15yrs, but his choice not to drive layoff start . no one would have a problem with him moving right in on a driving position .
