We have a few Sterlings here (184) that came off the road to the city, they are '05 or 06' models i think. The problem i notice is the headlights seem very dim or dull as compared to the Mack Visions, anyone else notice this or have complaints about it ?

They have a polish of some kind that will brighten them up.Friend of mine got some at Wally World Said it worked great.

Headlights

The polish may help some. Many times the inside of the headlamp is dull or tarnished. The lamp bulb is small & fits in a socket behind the lens. Replacing the assembly is sometimes necessary.
All of the 2005 Sterlings & the first 200 of the 2006 Sterling units are being converted to city use. The 1999 Macks & 1999 Sterlings, most of the 2001 Volvos, many 2002 Macks & some 2003 Sterlings are being sold.

Please not not my Volvo! I've had mine since 04 and any replacement parts including the new headlight lenses I got a while back was determined first by the outside vendor thaat does all our repairs then by the regional repair?(whatever his title is)guy deems is necessary or timely as how much longer that vehicle will be in service.I thing the way you present your case weights heavily on the outcome. Also I tried the lense cleaning route but that was just a band-aid.

I drive for another freight company and we have the same problems with our Sterlings. Polishing does help. Best thing is to have them re-placed.
Darn things break easliy if the shop says that they can't replace them unless broken :duh:

That's just how they are. You can almost get by driving with your high beams on all the time. There is a reason why those trucks are cheap. You get what you pay for and management doesn't care. They don't drive it. It's all about the almighty dollar. I know the R Fords are pogo sticks and very noisy in cab. I call them COMP trucks. We have a lot of guys injured driving them. They also crumble like a tin can in an accident. Survival is best if you are not wearing your belt and are thrown clear.

I'll have to remember the seatbelt thing in case of an emegency,i hope i land on a soft surface 'cause i bruise easy!!!! and you know that things bounce off the road and could break the headlight lens assembly, that is a good thing to rmemeber when the vendor says there is nothing he can do to help me.

We had that problem with the older Volvos and shop said cost way to much to replace!! But if its not safe there was nothing they could do but change them out!!

A cheap quick alternative is to buff the outside of the lense with toothpaste on a rag. I haven't tried it myself, but have heard nothing but good doing so. It may not last as long as the buffing/ restoration kits but it doesn't cost 100-150 a kit either.

Addition = and no i don't think it matters if it is spearmint or peppermint....

they just replaced the lens on the volvo I drive about two months ago, keep writing it up,it's a safety issue!!!

cost has nothing to do with it,previous post I stated about new lens', well tonight ther'e pulling it out of here go figure. Acouple of 16 sterlings to replace probably going to the ue's oh well.
