Pray to GOD!

In dallas they have been training dockworkers to get there cdls for about 5 years.

If you get to ride behind one of them, say your prayers before they take you down a mountain.

Just my two cents, and I've only been at 120 for 17 mos.8 days, and 7 hrs.But a guy who's worked THAT dock for 36 yrs. DESERVES a shot at keeping his job.:sadwavey:

Jeeze 36 years This is only my opinion but if i had 36 years I'd be someplace warm where i could pursue other activities if you know what I mean. What is wrong with some people? Why would any one with that much seniority want to stay? There is an old fart on my job who is 75 years old, collecting his full pension, collecting social security, and making 15+ hours a week OT. While the bottom 5 men are on hard layoff trying to support their families on unemployment. How much greedier can you be? Shame on the union for allowing that. It wouldn't be as bad if the greedy ole bast**d was made to hit the bottom of the list and be put to work after everyone else has worked.. Why should he have 2 pieces of the pie when others can't even get 1 piece?? Yes I'm VENTING<FLAMING<*****ING<or whatever else you want to call it. If you have the age, the time and all the credits .................. Get out :smilie_132: where is the justice? $3,500 pension, $1,900 S/S and $5.600 wage for a monthly total of $11,000 for some one that could retire and live comfortably on $5,400 per month on their pension and S/S Where the bottom 5 try to support their family on $2,253 per month of U/E.

Yes I understand the theory of seniority, and i would feel safe to say that in every terminal the bottom 10 to 12 men came from other jobs that have went out of bussiness or were closed by Yellow. They might only have 4,5,6,7 or even 8 years with Yellow but might have 15+ years in the union and are trying to get a few more so they too may be able to collect a pension and not go on welfare because of the Greed of other fellow teamsters that won't retire and want to hog it all!

Phew .......I feel better now:nutkick:

And you if you are only there 17+ months, I don't want to burst your bubble but If I were you I'd seriously look in another direction for an entirely different career. Let unemployement retrain you in a completely different direction. Because if you look at what direction this industry has fallen to in the last year alone, and if we keep getting sold out and forced to keep giving back, there will be nothing here in 5 years! :Flame-On:

I'm sure you have been here long enough to know that this is one of the most talked about issues on this forum. I agree with you, but there really is nothing that can be done - legally. I knew an old guy who was like the one you are talking about. He finally died in a yardgoat one Sunday morning. It was his seventh day. How pathetic!

what a bunch of crap.

train a dockape to bump a driver out of a driving job.

one list barn sucks.

in 1997 i had 125 dock apes ahead of me on the road list in MBK who weren't qualified to do my road driver job on the day i was hired.

i love the way these rookies swagger around and think they're truck drivers just because YELLOW told them they were.

all you drivers out there that are going to get hammered, i sure hope you feel good about sitting back and swallowing it.

some dockape with big seniority taking all the gravy off the top while you sit home.

SIMPLE, IF YOU CHANGE CLASSIFICATIONS, YOU HIT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLASSIFICATION'S LIST OF THE JOB YOU ARE ENTERING.

So right you are, your posts are always to the point...............Thanks PADUCAH#1:clap:

I'm @ 120 17 mos. I'm with roadway 22 yrs. and 35 yrs. working in p+d overall. Your right, I am taking a layoff and retraining. I might actually find a job I like going to. I'm still a little short of retirement age. Besides,I was just throwing my two cents.

Just because a person has 36yrs with the company does not mean that they are old enough to retire.120 had a lot of dock workers that started at 18-20 years old that would but them at 53-56 right now not old enough to take retirement. And that is to reach 57,if they stay to 62 some will have 42+ years.

Col dock is all cdl since the 07 coo that gutted Col and birthed the cluster @#$% in cti.We have been training people since the cdl became mandatory. Quit twisting your panties over a non issue. We will train the rdwy guys when they come in March. Unless they split the board AGAIN.

I'm glad you can get that much of a pension when you turn 57, we don't.If you retire at 57 in central PA you get a lump sum that was tied to the stock markert and just lost $100,000 last year. You also get a monthly payment up to $1100. If you need benifits you can get them for $800 a month, Leaving you with $300 a month plus your lump sum that you will have to income average over 5 years to avoid paying a penalty. You can also take your chances on a monthly payment of $3100 minus you benifits, but with the funds going so low that is a gamble.

Right, but the guy he is talking about is 75. I know it is nobody's right to tell someone when to retire. But like he points out, it is hard to watch this, particularly right now, what with the economy and all.

DOWN HERE....the purpose of getting non-CDL dock workers qualified is to benefit the Local cartage operations....not linehaul....KK

To you I have to say F--K you!
You have balls calling a brother a 'Dock Ape" The problem with guys like you is you think you are special because you drive a truck.
No big deal. Any one can drive a truck. Look at the guys in a truck stop, or your lunch room.
No Doctors need apply.
So yes dock guys have been trained so they can better themselves.
Guys like you who think they should be higher on the "pecking" order because you drive, are just a little over impressed with themselves!
That is what this Union has always been about.
My opinion is, EVERY Terminal should have one list seniority.
If you are qualified to do the job, and have the seniority to hold it. SO BE IT!
Sorry to hear you guys hate you Brothers that much.
Perhaps you need to get out and go to a non - union job.
Those who follow that school of thought should not be Teamsters!:loser:
