Estes | It could happen to you!

Sorry for you and your Family Golfpro, but look at it this way the way this company has been changing it is not for the better anyway.

My wifes workplace just bumped a woman down to part time that's been with the company for years. They have a new hire that just been offered full time and gave her multiple positions to be incharge of. I asked my wife, "is it fair." She shrugged her shoulders and said money is tight right now and they need someone that's capable of doing multible jobs without being supervised all day. The senior girl has to be followed around and is not very productive and they couldn't afford to keep her full time. I know its a little different for truck drivers because a 70 year old dumb dumb can do the same job as a 21 year old rocket scientist.. If a truck driver really busted their *** at big E I doubt we would have any 20 year vets.

To Whom it may concern,,

What do you get after 24 years of dedicated service with Estes Express??

Your hours cut down to 31-32 hours, a week a rolling day off and

Your house foreclosed on!

Yes that"s right,, during these rough times Estes found away to play the numbers game!!

How can we maintain our comfy life style? Let"s cut the workers hours and give them rolling days off.

This is how it was done in Salisbury,MD.

You see My Husband was a Driver for Estes ,, First started in Baltimore then 4 yrs.ago transferred here to Salisbury,Md. Everything was going good,,50 to 55 hours a week. Here the Drivers were also the dock workers

they would go in early to load the trucks then hit the road,,Someone at Estes decided lets save money and cut these men back,,We can save money if we hire dock workers at a lower pay!!This caused a big problem, now the Drivers were coming in later and getting out on the road late which in turn made alot of customers mad because their deliveries were late and some customers decided to cancel their accounts with Estes.

Now the economy went bad and Estes needing to maintain their wealthy life style needed to cut back even more,,So they started with rolling days off and coming in at 10am then it went to 11am ,,Now I"am hearing that Bob O"Conner and Phil had something to do with this,,,after all,,they say,, the numbers show it could be done ..Now to make matters worse ,,we have the Term./Mang. Nick. First lets make this clear.

There is 2 other men besides my Husband who also has 24 or more years with this company,,Now when there was extra hours available they rarely went to these men with the most time in with the company .Instead it went to the guys:butt kiss: with 5 to 8yrs of service,,These were the guy"s:butt kiss: who play"s golf and softball with the T/M and who cover for him when he was at the gym and now taking up a nursing career.. or using the company truck to do other errands,,not to mention other dealings,Yet this man is still able to maintain his same pay and I am sure bonus..

And know these men with the most years with the company are not slackers either,

One would think if you were a good T/M you would give it your all to the most dedicated employees,,those men who helped Estes become what they were! Mr.Rob Estes needs to take a better look at what is really going on at these terminals .He might be able to save money on some of these Managers,,

Yes I am a BITTER WIFE,,after all I never thought after 24 yrs ,That we would lose our home to forecloser and that my Husband would have to start all over again with a new company and now be away from home for a week or so,,not to mention our Family needing to find a home and to start over again rebuilding our credit to be able to buy a new home in 2 or 3 years.

So,, Mr. Rob,,Bob,O"Conner,,Phil and Nick and all those other ones who helped crunch the numbers ,,I will pray for you all ..It seems to me that you all forgot who helped build this company ,,Men like My Husband!!

I am making copies of this letter and sending them to all of you and posting it on all the websites for all of those other workers to see,,I hope this does not happen to other good men out there,God Bless them and their Familys..

Thanks for nothing,,

A Bitter Wife,,:furious:

Sorry to here about your husband Golfpro. Not clear if he was let go or did he leave because of the lack of hours? I've been with Estes for going on five years and we've always had dock workers doing the loading and unloading, with drivers helping during the busy times of the year. We've always had rolling days off in the winter, usually were filled by people volunteering to take off, never had to resort to mandatory.

I've been in trucking 33 years and was told many a time nothing in life is guarenteed, never base your livelihood on anything over forty hours. I've lived by that motto and been able to survive. I left my old job of 18 years for just that reason, they cut our overtime and my regular hours, was getting about 35 a week.

Well I suppose you will get faster after 24 years
Yeah, gotta love the "FAST AND FURIOUS DRIVERS" Hey everyone, look at me I did 16 stops! 4 p/u's! where is my pat on the back, my attaboy, job well done? If you look in the men's room it's in the crapper! Everyone knows what happens to Greyhound dogs, your only as good as your last race!

As a manager once said "when you got a horse, you ride em" I replied "what happens when that horse breaks down?"
His response was "you get another horse". and laughed his *** off.
My point is to the super freight guys out there. They won't be able to do the 20 stops every day consistently as they get older.

Last race, hell as good as your last stop.As for the 24 year man he left because of hours,we went from nine to ten to eleven am start times, one more cut back and I will have to join that 24 year man, things got thin around my house a while back, now there just anrorexic. As for our terminal,we are a small and very dysfunctional family at times, our problems are the same as big ones, ours are only compounded because of our size,We do have people that have taken milking the clock and raised it to an art form, this can only happen for one reason,is allowed. As for Softball Player,Ill never agree with all his decsions but,hes management and Im a driver we will never agree and even if we did it doesnt matter because what ever the front office says ,goes, end of story. As for seniority, yea right.Company loyalty towards the employee? That got buried with the old man.Like I stated before this is a small barn and we bust our asses every day, even if some do find a way to milk things. We know who does this and who doesnt, hell, they know,I wish they would just have a little more respect for their fellow drivers, the 11 am start time is apparently a direct result of this practice.I really wish B.oconer or Phil would just come down read these people the riot act or kick their asses to the curb and quit throwing a blanket over the rest.Everybody be safe.

As a brother once said. "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". This is true but, that horse is getting awful thirsty. Eventually he will drink. TE out......

Answer to your question,,He left on his own after going from a full time paycheck to a part time paycheck. We never lived above our means or purchased anything we could not afford..If he could have maintained 40hrs all would have been good but that was not the case here @ 071,,Maybe if he would have milked the clock like some of them @ 071 does, and are aloud to do then maybe we would be sitting pretty too.But Golfpro"s(my husband ) motto is get in get the job done and get home to his wife and kids!!
As you may have read from Softball players post,Golfpro was a big loss to this company,
Damn shame it took this for him realize it!!
Thanks for your concern,,
Golfpro"s WIFE,,

Golfpro"s WIFE,,

I have a feeling you were way above your meens. You were counting on the 50-55 hour weeks all the time. Did you go get a job to help your husband out. All I know is my lifestyle would permit me being cut only one day a week. That is all your complaining about. If all that you said originally is going on then your husband should have complained and had H/R involved oh wait didnt they investigate up there? Just a few issues that I had with your post. You cannot state things on here that are false and be that obvious. I wish your husband well and good luck on his new job

that's what i don't understand. sure a lot of people have had less hours. so why quit a good job just because your hours drop.
i call bullshit.
sure we can cry about 10 to 15 hours less a week but to slam the company because the USA economy went to the crapper .
this is a case of someone crying poor me

Let"s make this clear,The 50 - 55 hours a week have been long gone at least for the past 1 1/2 to 2 years, and yet we still managed, therefor not above our meens!!and yes I had a job until we all got laid off which did not help! and either did the ECONOMY! I am not crying poor me or for people to feel sorry for us we have moved on for the better!!As far as H/R to many of the driver"s (sorry) to say didn"t speak up in (fear) of their jobs!!They too have Familes to try and support! I hope one day someone will be able to blow the whistle on 071 and get some changes in there, after all there is still some good and decent workers there!!Men who deserve better!!As far as false statments thats your opinion,go and visit or get a job@ 071 and find out the truth for yourself ! Also as for leaving a good job cause of some lost hours,,please!!,,lol,, a Family can"t live on 31-32 hours a week and maybe a rolling day off in these hard times..And if SENIORITY WAS TILL OBSERVED IN THE JOB MARKET THINGS MAY HAVE NOT BEEN THAT BAD!!!But yet they can cut hours AND STILL BE OUT THERE PURCHASING TERMINALS IN OTHER STATES !!WITH WHAT MONEY?? OOH THATS RIGHT THEY GOT IT FROM ALL THE HOURS THAT HAVE BEEN CUT FROM THE WORKER"S!!!

Remember this and it is my opinion,,It"s a numbers game and ESTES has found away to improve on it!

I do Thank You very much Mr. Turned for your well wishes on my Husband"s new job that was nice!! I do wish all the other Estes Drivers and Dock workers the best of luck!!

Before I end this ,Thank you to all of the OVER the ROAD DRIVERS out there,,I had no Idea what you all have to go thru every day of the week,,until going out on the road with my Husband on his new job last week.It was mind blowing and something I won"t forget,,So again THANK YOU !!You all deserve so much more credit then you all get,,
Best of luck and Please be SAFE!!:bye1:

Golfpro"s Wife,,,,

Good job?? let"s get real here Estes has gone to the crapper ever since the oldman passed away!!Then follwed by the economy,,Hell I cry poor me everytime I open my paycheck and If my better half losses her income will be up ***** creek to.and reading about the tm there belive me it's all true and Golfpro"s wife hasn"t told all of it and I know she knows a hell of alot more then what she let out...

P/D drivers are not doing as well on hours @071,Barley making it ,,Hell one man had to move his Inlaw in to make ends meet ,his wife lost her job too,or he would be losing his home.and he is not even a driver or dock worker,a little higher up the pay scale..

Let"s put on are thinking caps before we speak and wish the best to all @ 071,,H/R should take another look at the tm at 071 that might help out..

We're all missing the point here, there are 2 different issues. First about the cut hours,we're all having hours or runs cut.I had my first full week in about 6-7 weeks.Christmas week I was cut the whole week.I even had several weeks missing 2 days, that's a 20% and a 40% pay cut. It happens to all of us. You don't lose a house after a few weeks of cut hours,it takes months,I've been through it. Second the issues at the terminal with the TM.There are avenues to go to.The primary one being if a majority have a problem, then go as a group to complain. If others don't or won't then it's not a big enough issue for them. But I still don't think you can blame the company for your foreclosure.Sorry, best of luck in your new job.

Hours being cut has been going on for some time, not in the last few weeks.even office personal has been let go.This term. is in danger rumor has it that it maybe cutting more hours back or even closing the doors here.for going to the hr dept. hell they have been there a fewtimes these guys are in danger of losing thier jobs so why really make matters worse.hell R&L drivers are doing alot better here then Estes Drivers they are gaining our lost customers,Estes wont even try to offer better deals.R&L Drivers running over here on the shore are getting thier hours as we loose ours,,go figure.
Besides getting all the drivers to complain why? The TM. has higher up people in ELKTON to cover for him after all he and his buddies play ball at Richmond for the Eklton team...go figure...enough said!!
Gotta go..

It is one thing to blow off steam it is another to jerk everyone around. I still do not buy it. I would swear it was topflight but it is to much to elvis` side of things.

How did I become part of this post? I have become the benevolent one lately. A kinder, gentler Elvis out......

OK here goes -- I feel for u golfpro & wife I do not know what I would do if it was me except pick up the pieces & move as I have had more than one company put me out of work over the last 20 yrs. As far as Nick is concerned I have seen how he works first hand one day when I had to layover there one day & it was very unprofessional. Now as far as Nick in school for nursing he will never make it as my daughter is a supervisor on rehab-surgical floor & would fire him in 5 min. if he brings that attitude of his with him besides I think he knows something is up thats why he is in school and the rest of the drivers should maybe follow his lead & start looking
