This is just happening - fatal here in Southeast Texas. I'm sure there will be more updates later, but here's the initial link:

U.S. 69 Southbound Closed due to fatal accident | southbound, accident, fatal - Breaking News - KFDM-TV Channel Six

The area where this happened is pretty clear and plenty wide. If the trooper still had their lights on, traffic should have moved into the outside lane and slowed down 20 mph. Regardless - the car had to be flying to get wedged under the truck as far as it did and still get dragged I think 350 feet down the road.

Ya'll drive safe out there!

Seems like a very poor place for the " creeper cop' to pull a driver over for an inspection. Sure hope they don't try to charge the semi drive with some kind of a traffic violation. on another note, I have noticed in accidents where a semi hits a 4 wheeler parked on the shoulder the semi driver gets a violation for hitting the car; when a 4 wheeler hits a semi parked on the shoulder the semi driver gets a ticket for illegal stopping. Just an observation of reports i have seen, even on this site.

It will be interesting to see how this one shakes out in terms of information that gets released. Seems the truck had been released to return to the road and was in the process of accelerating into the main lanes when this car/suv - not sure exactly, have seen reports saying one or the other - ran into the back of him. The 4-wheeler caught fire - don't think that was in the other reports - but it's being reported now.
All in all - a very nasty incident.

Typical of the D.O.T. and further proof that their "mantra" rings hollow. If they were REALLY concerned about "safety" they wouldn't do roadside checks or would close the scales when the ramp is backed up onto the Interstate. BUT they don't so what does it tell you.

Thanks for you safety awareness contribution to this forum TrnDancer.
What does it take for folks to focus when they are holding a steering wheel?

Wow, a DOT inspection at night. I couldn't think of a better time of day, and wait it gets better, on the shoulder. Congratulation$ Dept of $afety for contributing to the death of someone's family member. You should be very proud of your accomplishment. Why are road$ide inspection$ allowed in the fir$t place ?

To get more money for the States. Some of the State pull off spots for weighing and DOT checks here in Texas are rarely used.
