just wondering if anyone has one of these walkman size portable radios, and how do they work? Do you need to buy an antenna extension?, or can you just throw it on the dashboard? I have an old xm but I wanted something newer and smaller.

my partner has the stiletto 2. It is a mp3 player, portable satellite receiver, and it receives wifi in the motel when you can't get a signal. It mounts in a cradle when u use it in the truck.
A little trick is to buy some cheap computer speakers and make sure they are 12v. Cut the wire and solder on alligator clips. Now you dont have to worry about having a radio.

hot xm radio setup

go to ebay and buy a 'roady xt' for around 20 bucks.

get a pair of cheap koss headphones with an inline volume control at best buy.

make an adapter for plugging the roady power supply into a cigarette lighter.

slap the magnetic antenna on the roof and rock and roll.

i started out with a pioneer radio rig in early 2002 and have downsized to what i suggested above works great and you don't need a hand truck to drag your junk around.

Kinda curious about the reception of that stiletto 2 when in the big truck...is it very good?

don't wast your money on the new stuff.

the fm modulators in the old stuff are 10 times more powerful.

an old roady xt will transmit a good signal over 100 feet from a moving truck.

that way, someopne in the next car can hear the gospel music you're listening to on their radio.

Radio

I had the stiletto it worked great for a while.Anything with a hard drive(I-Pod,Stiletto) will eventually succumb to the vibrations in a truck.Get the cheapest portable you can they all receive exactly the same depending on your antenna.I would recommend the mushroom because the wire is thicker and won't break from repeated mounting/dismounting as easily.
Contrary to what others say do not get head phones they are illegal in most states. There was a driver on his way to 671 on Rt 29 who got a ticket for having them in while driving.
You can get a set of Bose companion II for $70.00 at Sam's club they fit right on the dash board of the Volvo's very nicely.Get a power inverter for the speakers since they have an A/C adapter.By using the speakers you can run them directly to your dock and will not need to use the fm transmitter.

If you do go with the Stiletto you will need the vehicle kit to go with it.

rdans.

if you wanna get an mp3 player, get napster to go and a creative player.

i got over 6700 songs (44gigs) on my mp3 player and they only cost me 14 bucks a month.

go to ebay and look up 'creative labs factory store' and buy a 32 gig mp3 player and fill it up.

do yourself a favor and buy big first cause, 4 or 8 gigs aint enough.

remember that all the music on it is stuff you like alone.

i got well over a quarter million miles on mine and no problems, toshiba hard drives for mp3 players are really rugged.

If you don't want a big box and all your looking for is music I would consider a boombox they sit real nice in volvos and you can see and change channels. As far as reciever I would also get the Roady XT. The more money you spend the more your out in the end. Vibrations put a good beating on any electronics hooked up.

I think you fell asleep at the CDL rules part concerning not wearing headphones while driving. Unless that was revised.

I use the same setup Bubba previously mentioned. Bose speakers, inverter and Ipod. Sounds outstanding. I have a padded case for Ipod with a ziptie that I use to hang Ipod onto brake knob. I keep inverter in my duffle bag with bag flap open for ventilation. Can throw speakers on dash, hang Ipod and connect inverter in about 20 secs.

Ihave a sirius boombox that runs off 12 volt in the truck. You also have a 110 cord to use it at home or the motel You also can put 8 rechargable batteries in it.I carry it around in a small duffle bag. I put it on the chain box in the truck with a bungy cord.I have a cig lighter power cord that I put aligator clips on. I put the magnetic antenna on the roof and enjoy great sound out of the boom box.I have used this for over 2 years now. I get the channels anywhere on earth.

Now that is a very good suggestion, I never thought of that.

Makes slip seating alot easier instead of trying to plug a FM modulator into the back of the radio.

you can stick them to the dash with double sided tape. Some have headphone jacks too.
