We are we going to get it?????????

i saw at least 20 truckloads going south on i-35 seems like theres money going down the road toward laredo

You're right, there's quite a bit going towards Laredo. There's a good bit coming out of there too. It's just the turn around time while you're there. There could be 20 trucks ahead of you when you get there at times, then again, there could be 90+ trucks ahead of you, and you may be there for awhile. It's a hit and miss when it comes to the border.:shift:

I hear ya, Bird. Mty miles doesn't do anyone any good. It's like the first freight load that I was sent on. Tomah to Fargo. I figured that the reason for me taking it was that there was not much inbound freight coming back from Fargo. Where as, I ended up picking up a TL going to El Paso bout 70 mi. from Fargo.
There's still some bonehead moves on both sides, but you see that everywhere. Some places more than others.
Back to the main subject, I don't know why that other guy would want to work the freight dock. I've done it, and to tell you the truth, I'd just as soon stay off the dock and be going down the road. Happy Easter, Driver!:shift:

Sounds like a bunch of school kid's hollering "My Daddy can beat-up your Daddy" Grow-up!
We all work for the same people. Each person has a job to do, and everyone's job has it's up's and down's. LTL,Truckload,Freight,Menlo, whatever your called they all answer to Portland. I personally don't treat anyone different from anyone else. LTL gets more my friends because they HAVE to do more. And you fella's in LTL need to learn that, that don't make you a better driver or a better person. Jeezee's You think because you drive a truck that your some kind of truck-god? Any monkey with half a brain can drive, and dock work is still just MANUEL LABOR! When are you guy's going to learn we are all just people trying to make a living the best we can, nothing more and nothing less. And if we can just learn to get-a-long as fellow drivers then life for us just might seem a little better. Damn ain't we got enuff enemies out here without cutting each other as well. I will now step down from the box.:TR10driving03:

The whole premise of the thread was bizarre to begin with. I don't do anyone's job but my own. This, generally speaking, involves opening doors, closing doors, and not hitting anything while I drive.

Aside from the intermittent rumors (usually on internet message boards) that we pull doubles (which we don't do), or that we've been told to get a 'T' endorsement (which we haven't been), I can't see any indication that I'm doing a freight driver's job. That's just fine with me.

It has been confirmed by operations you have now indeed pulled freight doubles. We are told they are mt's to realign equipment where it is needed.

One or two drivers pulling a set of empties to a new location is a far cry from the narrative that Truckload is now pulling pups, stealing money from Freight drivers, molesting children, kicking dogs and all the rest.

I'll say it again - We don't pull pups any more than the Freight guys work for Schneider. Yes, I once saw a Con-way Sterling pulling a fully labeled pumpkin trailer down the freeway. We haven't been told to get a 'T' endorsement. It has not been suggested that we get a 'T' endorsement. It has not been hinted that it might be kinda nice if we had a 'T' endorsement. Contrast this with hazmat (which I have on my license, as well as the 'T', but they don't know I have it). I was grandfathered in and not required to pull hazmat or Canada, so I don't pull hazmat or Canada. I get a "recommendation" at least once every week or two that I really ought to pull hazmat and Canada. You know, to make things better for myself and get more miles and such. I'm sure the day is coming when the suggestions will turn to requirements, but there hasn't even been a suggestion regarding the 'T'.

The freight pulling the pumpkin was a sub-service that for whatever reason could not make it. Not with a pumpkin, but I have done this before with another truckload carriers wagon. They could not reach the final destination so it was dropped at my terminal and I ran it the remaining 220 miles.

I find all this talk talk of doubles ROFL funny, I have known the head of truckload safety Randy C. for many years and he has denied any such claims of us hauling doubles now are in the near future. Now as to the possible use of our equipment by LTL to move empty trailers???? I never asked about that.
And why do LTL drivers seem so worried about US taking your job? We didn't want it in the first place anymore then you want ours. If I wanted to work LTL I can assure you I not only could get such a job but am more then qualified to get the job done if I so desired. What would be the gain?? If truckload hauled doubles don't you think we would demand to have the same pay and rate???? Of course we would! You LTL drivers seem to think your something special..B.S. your just a driver and nothing more. Each job has it's own challages. Van, Tanker, Flatbed, Reefer,Etc,Etc. So get over yourselves. Your not legend's of the hi-ways. If anyone was out to put the screws to you it wont be us, It will be the people you work for boy's and girl's...CON-WAY period.

you r absolutely correct......but pay attention to what we are saying because you work for the same people we work for
its a matter of we dont know what they will do next...and i believe you should be paid the same rates that we are paid..I dont think i am special...but i do think conway takes advantage of thier drivers...and while doing so....just think about this...thay are doing it to you guys too...how many of you road guys(and i spent 15yrs running the road)are not getting the miles that u want to run because england crst werner and so on are getting the loads....I am sure some of you are getting miles but how many are spending all week in a truck and are only getting 2200 mile....now if thats what u want to do thats fine....but i wasnt out there to hang out in truckstops...and fyi its not any harder to pull a set than it is to pull a van....so again I dont think i am any better than you..and I would be very happy if all i saw in our docks were freight and truckload trailers.....after all thats y thay bought cfi....they use all the outside carriers because it is cheaper for them....I and I think I can speak for you dont want to be not working because crst pays their drivers 28cpm...I was making 28cpm in 1990....some of our guys are misunderstood by youre guys and rightfully so....but conway truckload isnt what i worry about its all the OUTSIDE carriers....good luck and be safe....

Demand? Now, that's funny!

And Conway will listen and provide.......

Get every endorsement u can it makes you valuable,,and flexable...A driver with a clean record and all endorsements is a commodity

I already have all my endorsements but, as of yesterday, I can't cross the Canadian border legally anymore. So whenever they do get around to requiring the things that they now 'recommend,' I figure it will take me at least a month or two to get my passport card.

The Freight locations that I visited within the last week were absolutely overwhelmed with work while I was there. Both vans that I pulled were also listed as over 95% full on the paperwork. I know that a few brief observations don't qualify as a trend, but I have to think they'll be calling everyone back to work (assuming that they haven't already done so) pretty soon if business keeps up.

And I'm still not pulling doubles or driving a forklift. :tongue1:

We are busy. Calling back all those who were laid off and hiring new drivers. Definitely a trend. According to my TM, the East Region is short about 500 drivers right now - I think my barn accounts for about 50.

Not trying to bust your balls but this company tells you what to do and you will like it whether you like it or not. The famous line - "You can leave".

I've seen some truckload drivers take 20minutes to back a box to the dock, now why should that guy get the same pay as me?
they should not get the same pay because as a spotter i dont know how many times i have stopped them told them to drop their trailer so i could put the thing in so they could get out of the way after taken 30 min or more to try and back up into a door with plenty of room

please the same pay:Flame-On:

I agree define our job. When did you start breaking freight? When did you start hostleing? When did start driveing 4 hours ,working dock 3 hours, hostleing for 1 hour ,then go back (4 hours) to your home service center? Do you really think we want you (Conway Truckload ) hauling our freight ,we work to get our freight? Some of yall (Conway Truckload) say you have your own freight, then where is it.Why do we (Sales@Conway Freight- Menlo) have to get freight for yall. The reason we make more (CONWAY FREIGHT) is we do more and are qualified better.50% of Conway truckload doesn't have a Haz-mat endorsement or doubles and triples endorsement.I'm not trying to offend you but some of yall do good enough to walk inside our services centers without running out of breath. If you can handle LTL, come on we be glade to have you.Myself I wished Conway truckload could only haul there own freight, but then your question would be ,who's hiring.I don't mean to offend any of yall but the truth is the truth.
No offense to the Truckload drivers intended, but strunguptight is right. Personally, I have seen a large number of Conway Truckload drivers come into the Cincinnati Conway yard (Cincinnati/XCN is where I'm from) and seem to be lost in everyway. Cant back the trailer worth crap, they look a god awful mess and they seem to have issues getting out of the trucks due to being overweight and out of shape. Just an observation. Not all of the truckload guys/gals are like this. just a good portion of you. And I would challenge you to come to the freight side for 2 weeks and see what all we do on a nightly basis. 98% of those who would step up to the challenge would fall short and go running back to your truckload large cars. Trust me, not a one of us want any of you coming into the any of the freight yards and pulling our freight off of our docks and taking it down the road. It cuts into our drivers runs which directly affects our pocket books and none of us like that one bit!
