Did any one notice that as soon as they got rid of the Powell family(real freight people)our name went from YELLOW FREIGHT SYSTEM to YELLOW TRANSPORTATION and we have forgotten how to attract and keep FREIGHT.
IT starts with the dispatchers covering their a$$ to some pissant t/m who in turn is covering their a$$ to some regional mgr right on up the line they juggle numbers to cover their respective a$$es.Our management has turned into number crunchers instead of FREIGHT PEOPLE.We have young kids who would work for nothing to be the BOSS,so they will step on anything or anyone to keep their ego trip going. They would,nt know the front of the trailers from the back if us teamsters did,nt back them to the dock.When you go to work every day and do as you are told and see the stupid that the supervisors pile on you,you can see why this company is in the shape it is.
RUN ALL THEIR A$$ES OFF AND GET SOME FREIGHT PEOPLE BACK IN CHARGE OF THIS FREIGHT COMPANY.

It does not matter if it is freight or portable storage containers (that is what I am doing now). Bean counters sing the same tune. Cut to the bone. But CYOA when it comes to keeping your job. We all know Sh... runs down hill. You have to where a hard hat to keep it off you head. In the end it is the workers that keep the co open. With out us the bean counters would have no beans to count.
 
I will agree that way to many young college people TRY to THINK they know how to operate a freight operation. If all management went through the hands on experience from loading/unloading trucks and driving p&d they would really understand how it really is out in the streets.
IMHO, no one should be in management under 40.

This applies to ALL of the companys also, not just YRC!
 
i work at 653 charlotte on the dock . yesterday i was starting a project to move 110 rolls from 1 truck to another so i could get at a time critical shipment .the strip forman came to me and said he had to pull me out of this job because his boss was pushing him to get a jump start on BILLS PER HOUR . HMMMMMM . some1s gonna have to move this freight and get that t/c out but i guess bph are more important than getting payed for that t/c

i know front end of trailer & i am retired disp but i have been told there is only 1 seat in tractor where driver will know which side to get in on, any truth to that. tks

i know the company i worked for 20yrs got bought out by {investment bankers} went from being a profitable company, fourthin the u.s. grocery dist. to a local warehouse with some stores. i'm sure the bean counters made their bucks but put alot of people out of work doing it. the new business model-make all you can get out- no matter what cost. i don't think the new c.e.o. know enough about business for anything long term. just fill their pockets fast.

Good point. I remember the day when our best managers started on the freight docks and worked their way up. These guys forgot more about this business than the snot noses will ever know.
 
i started in 1958 & most of our dispatchers came from road. im sure u have forgot more than i will ever know. tks

You have a few years on me so may I bow to the elder stateman? As a matter of fact the only thing that has one over on you is dust....only by a couple of years though...tks

well i believe they should get rid of Zollars and the top management they have now. They took two good trucking companys and turned them into one piece of s.... I drove for Yellow and was proud of it. The only thing I dont understand is why no one complains about the money they spent overseas and the amount that is due there in 2010.
